  • A technique or the preparation of porous polyurethane vascular prostheses was investigated. Small-diameter vessels are not in general clinical use due to their limited long-term biocompatibility and low patency rates in experimental trial. These limits are mainly due to the failure of mechanical unction of the vascular grafts. This failure has been suggested to result partially from compliance mismatch. The long-term patency is considered to depend critically on the properties of the material and the fabrication process of the graft. So the control of pores is very important and main points to develop a available vascular grafts. Two-kind polymer sheets was compared. One was the porous PU-sheet made at room temperature by the solvent/non-solvent exchange. And the other was the porous PU-sheet which was fabricated by thermal phase transition and solvent-/non-solvent exchange using the thermal controller. The polymer sheets had a uniform pore size and pore occupation. According to the result of the above experiments, polyurethane solution was injected into a mold designed or U-type tube. The average pore size and pore occupation were easily changed by changing polyurethane concentration, freezing temperature, and methods. This technique can give a proper pore size ($10{\sim}45\;{\mu}m$) or tissue in growth, and suitable compliances or matching with arteries and veins. Besides, the fabrication of more complicated shaped vessels such as the U-type vascular grafts is easily controlled by using the fixed mold. this method might give a desired compliant graft or artificial implantation with the presently valid medical polymers.

  • The removal of dissolved oxygen(DO) from water was studied using a poly(vinyliene fluoride)(PVDF) hollow fiber membrane contactor(HFMC) with the vacuum degassing process(VDP), Asymmetric porous PVDF hollow fiber membranes (HFM) for membrane contactor were prepared by a wet phase inversion method. In spinning of these PVDF hollow fibers, dimethy lacetamide (DMAc), LiCl and pure water were used as a solvent, a pore-forming additive and internal/external coagulant, respectively. The characteristics of the structure(pore size, porosity etc.) of the prepared PVDF HFMs as a function of concentration of pore-forming additive in polymer dope solution were studied. Also, the removal efficiency of DO from water according to flow rates of water, using PVDF HFMC with VDP, was studied. The performance of the asymmetric porous PVDF HFMC and a symmetric porous PP HFMC commercialized were compared. As a result, the asymmetric porous PVDF HFMC showed higher removal efficiency of DO than that of a symmetric porous PP HFMC.

  • So far the most practical polymer electrolytes are gel systems, which contain a polymeric matrix, a lithium salt, and aprotic organic solvents. This has met with success but has had disadvantages that the addition of solvents promotes deterioration of the electrolyte's mechanical properties and increases its reactivity towards the lithium metal anode.[1](omitted)

  • Nanoporous bioactive glass(NBG) ceramic with well interconnected pore structures were fabricated bytriblock copolymer templating and sol-gel techniques. Hierarchically porous BGbeads were also successfully synthesized by controlling the condition of solvent. The beads have hierarchically nano- and macro-pore structure with a sizesbetween several tens nanometers and several hundred micrometers. Both NBG andBG beads show superior bone-forming bioactivity and good in vitrobiodegradability. Biocompatibility both in vitro and in vivo were examed andwas revealed that it largely relies on the pore morphology as well ascomposition. Our synthetic process can be adapted for the purpose of preparingvarious bioceramics, which have excellent potential applications in the fieldof biomaterials such as tissue engineering and drug storage.

  • Anion-exchange porous hollow-fiber membranes with a thickness of about 1.2 mm and a pore size of about $0.30{\mu}m$ were used as a supporting matrix to immobilize cycloisomaltooligosaccharide glucanotransferase (CITase). CITase was immobilized to the membrane via anion-exchange adsorption and by subsequent enzymatic cross-linking with transglutaminase, the amount of which ranged from 3 to 110 mg per g of the membrane. The degree of enzyme multilayer binding was equivalent to 0.3 to 9.8. Dextran, as the substrate, was converted into seven- to nine-glucose-membered cycloisomaltooligosaccharides (CI-7, -8, and -9) at a maxi mum yield of $28\%$ in weight at a space velocity of 10 per hour during the permeation of $2.0(w/w)\%$ dextran solution across the CITase-immobilized porous hollow-fiber membrane.

  • PZT powders were prepared by the molten salt synthesis method. The porous PZT specimens were prepared from a mixture of PZT and Polyvinylalcohol(PVA) powders by BURPS(Burnout Plastic Sphere) technique. The pulse-echo response of PZT-polymer 3-3 type composite transducer with various PVA wt.% were studied, The fall time of pulse-echo response of PZT-polymer 3-3 type composite transducer was shorten to that of solid PZT-maded transducer. Therefore, a good transmitting and receiving properties could be obtained. The distance between transducer and reflector was in good agreement both solid PZT and PZT-polymer 3-3 type composite fabricated transducer.

  • Passive daytime radiative cooling (PDRC) is attracting increasing attention as an eco-friendly technology that can save cooling energy by not requiring an external power supply. An ideal PDRC structure should improve solar reflectance and emissivity within the atmospheric spectral window. Early designs of photonic crystal materials demonstrated the benefits of PDRC. Since then, functional arrangements of polymer-based radiative cooling materials have played an important role and are rapidly expanding. This review summarizes the known inorganic, organic, and hybrid materials for PDRC. The review also provides a complete understanding of PDRC and highlights its practical applications.

  • Composite membranes consisting of TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) and porous polymers have been widely utilized in photocatalytic water treatment because the composite membranes can allow an easy recovery of NPs after the photocatalytic reaction as well as the reduction of fouling in the membrane. However, the photocatalytic efficiency of the immobilized TiO2 NPs in the composite membranes has been discussed to a limited degree. In this study, we prepared polyethersulfone (PES)/TiO2 composite membranes to study the photocatalytic decomposition of organic dyes under light illumination. The decomposition kinetics of dye molecules by the PES/TiO2 composite membranes and colloidal TiO2 NPs have been compared to discuss the photocatalytic efficiency of NPs before and after their immobilization on the polymer membrane.
