  • Purpose: There is increasing prevalence of psychiatric disorders among inflammatory bowel Disease (IBD) population. Further, presence of psychiatric disorders has been shown as an independent predictor of quality of life among patients with IBD. We intended to explore the prevalence of various psychiatric disorders among pediatric and young adult population with IBD as a population-based analysis. Methods: We did a retrospective case control analysis using a deidentified cloud-based database including health care data across 26 health care networks comprising of more than 360 hospitals across USA. Data collected across different hospitals were classified and stored according to Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine-Clinical Terms. We preidentified 10 psychiatric disorders and the queried the database for the presence of at least one of the ten psychiatric disorders among IBD patients between 5 and 24 years of age and compared with controls. Results: Total of 11,316,450 patients in the age group between 5 and 24 years and the number of patients with a diagnosis of IBD, Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis were 58,020. The prevalence of psychiatric disorders was 21.6% among IBD mainly comprising of depression and anxiety disorder. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed, IBD is 5 times more likely associated with psychiatric disorders than controls, p<0.001). We showed a steady increasing trend in the incidence of psychiatric disorders among IBD patients (2% in 2006 to 15% in 2017). Conclusion: Largest population-based analysis demonstrated an increased prevalence of psychiatric disorders among IBD patients. Our study emphasizes the need for psychological and mental health services to be incorporated as a part of the routine IBD clinic.

  • This study aims at more exactly identifying current status and trend of the school violence in elementary schools. Many previous studies have addressed the issue with their own views and methodologies, and mostly ended up as one-time works without subsequent observation over years. From such respective studies, we could hardly figure out an integral and precise shape on the school violence in terms of fact and tendency. To my knowledge, this is the first time-lag design on the school violence which is conducted nation wide, where the same concepts and measures were applied to the population. The research conclusions are follows: (1) both offenders and victims of the school violence tend to increase, (2) compared 10 girls, boys have more experience of the school violence, and (3) both offenders and victims could be recruited from the same group.

  • The swine waste industry is growing rapidly along with the world human population. The trend is toward more concentrated piggeries with numbers of herds in the thousands. Associated with these increased herds are large quantities of wastes, including organic matter, inorganic nutrients, and gaseous emissions. The trend in swine waste management is toward treatment of these wastes to minimize negative impact on the health and comfort of workers and animals and the atmosphere, water, and soil environments. Treatment of these wastes has traditionally involved land application, lagoons, oxidation ditches, and conventional batch and continuously stirred reactor designs. More sophisticated treatment systems are being implemented, involving advanced anaerobic digester designs, integrated with solids separation, aerobic polishing of digester effluents, and biological nutrient removal. This review discusses the present and future role of anaerobic processes in piggery waste treatment with emphasis on reactor design, operating and performance parameters, and effluent processing.

  • Korea is one of the fastest aging country in the world. The increase in health expenditure is an inevitable problem in an aging country. We examined trend of benefit expenditure in National Health Insurance (NHI) by age group during 2001 to 2016. The benefit expenditure of NHI was 13.0 trillion won (2001) and 48.7 trillion won (2016); that is 3.76 times to 2001. This rapid increase was mostly due to people aged 65 and over. Proportion of beneficiaries aged 65 and over was 6.9% (2001) and 13.7% (2016), benefit expenditure per capita aged 65 and over was 279 thousand won (2001) and 960 thousand won (2016), and utilization days per capita aged 65 and over 21.44 (2001) and 30.23 (2016). This phenomenon was more pronounced in 75 or 85 aged and over. To contain the health costs for older people, the NHI system should be reformed.

  • As the economy has picked up in recent years, so have the changes in the food industry. Due to trends in the family structure, two income households are becoming more common, including the in-crease of the female working population. Leisure activities and time continue to increase and to cause changes in the food industry which makes many kinds of food available to everyone, compared to previous times when people ate simply to live. This trend can be easily seen by considering the year to year increase of expenses for eating out. As life as become more and more complicated and full of variety, the trend towards a consumer oriented food industry has accelerated and is becoming a major element of Korean life. In the past, quantity of food was the most important aspect of the food preparation. Today, the dining experience includes social and cultural meanings which emphasizes customar oriented menus and services. In the restaurant business, successful management must consider the interests of both employees and custmers and must be run efficiently and probide good service.

  • It is a common wisdom that the long-term economic development of Korea chiefly depends not only on the steady increase of the capital formation but also on the stable increase of the national saving. And also it is a widely accepted opinion that household saving plays a significant role for the smooth supply of investment funds. For the empirical analysis on the determining factors of household saving, consumption function of the household of Korea was utilized indirectly. The reason is that consumption function is regarded as a stable function whereas saving function is considered to be an unstable function of the relevant independent variables. In order to carry out the regression process of the consumption functions, data on the family income and expenditure survey and the farm household economy survey was used. The regression result could be summarized as follows : Firstly, household income and the number of the employed in the household have the negative effect in determining the consumption ratio of the Korean households. On the other hand, ages and the educational attainment of the household heads as well as the number of the household members have the positive effect. During the early part of 21st century, the consumption ratio of the Korean households is expected to be decreased because of the increasing trend of household income, and the ever increasing number of the employed member of the household based on the increasing trend of the labor force participation rate of women and the decrease of the average size of the number of household members owing to widespread nuclear family system. On the other hand, the consumption ratio of the household of Korea is expected to be increased because of the continuous increase of the average ages of the household heads caused by the population aging phenomena and improvement of the educational attainment of the household heads. But on the whole, household saving ratio is expected to be increased owing to the secular downward trend of the consumption and therefore no significant difficulties are anticipated for the smooth provision of investment resources needed to have long-term economic progress of Korea.

  • Despite improvements in vaccine coverage, a resurgence of measles has been reported, especially in the infant and adult populations in recent years. We conducted a systematic review of seroprevalence studies conducted in the Western Pacific Region (WPR) to provide insights into seropositivity trends in different countries. This systematic review aimed to collect data from all available measles seroprevalence studies to characterize the differences in population immunity against measles in different countries. We searched the online databases PubMed and Embase to identify: 1) observational studies that investigated seroprevalence in all age groups, and 2) results reported as antibody levels. The following variables were extracted from different study arms: paper identification (title, first author, publication year), inclusion and exclusion criteria, study site, age of subjects, number of subjects, country/area, population, methods, and seropositivity (%). The search yielded a total of 69 studies included in the review. Among the 1-6-year-old group, seropositivity remained relatively high, at 81-100% in China, 86-94% in Korea, and 77-91% in Australia. In adolescents aged 7-18-years old, seropositivity was relatively constant in China and Australia over time; however, a decreasing trend was noted in Korea in 2011 (66%), 2014 (69%), and 2014 (50%) in this age group. A similar downward trend was observed among Korean adults aged 19-39 years in 2011 (74%), 2019 (71%), and 2019 (64%). Children are likely to be protected by universal vaccination programs in WPR countries and regions. However, susceptible individuals with waned immunity may be present among the adult population.

  • The mold industry in Japan, an advanced country in the mold industry, is also at a point of great change. The main causes are the Ukraine crisis and the collapse of the global supply chain (parts supply chain) caused by COVID-19. In addition, the prices of overseas products are rising sharply due to rapid exchange rate fluctuations (decrease in the value of the yen). Until now, Japan's monotsukuri industry has been actively pursuing overseas expansion, riding the trend of globalization. However, the trend began to rapidly reverse, and now the monotsukuri industry that had expanded overseas is showing a tendency to return to Japan. Another factor of change is the change in the automobile industry, which is the most demanded product in the mold industry. As the automobile industry evolves from gasoline cars to electric cars, the number of parts that make up a car will drastically decrease. This trend is expected to increase the demand for small-scale production of a variety of products in the mold industry, and furthermore, it is expected that short delivery times will be required in parts development. As in Korea, the production population working in the mold industry is rapidly decreasing in Japan as well. Even if you add up the total population working in manufacturing in Japan, it only accounts for about 15%. Even in Japan, it is judged that it will be difficult to sustain the monotsukuri industry with this small production population. Therefore, since improvement in production efficiency cannot be expected with the same manual dexterity as before, the mold industry is also demanding the development of mold technology at a different level than before to increase productivity. In this paper, I would like to introduce new Japanese mold technology collected through attending the Intermold exhibition. This is an example of applying a dedicated pin (Gastos) to a mold to prevent an increase in internal pressure during plastic injection molding, and a deep drawing press molding technology with an inherent hydraulic function.

  • This paper examines the changes in housing characteristics occupied by two or more households from 1995-2005, as a replicated follow-up study done by the previous decade of 1985-1995. The data analyzed were based on the Population and Housing Census in 1995, 2000, and 2005 by the Korean National Statistical Office. Results showed decreasing trends in the percentages of housing units occupied by multi-households and of households sharing a housing unit, while the average number of households for a shared housing unit was increasing. Detached dwellings in dongs (neighborhood) including ordinarily single-family detached ones, mainly multi-family houses, were the most often shared with other households even in the trend of the decreasing number of the detached housing. Further research is suggested to focus on housing circumstances of households sharing a detached dwelling in Dongs by the type of detached dwellings.

  • According to a system-wide analysis utilizing the raw data of Korean urban households survey, the expenditure elasticity estimate of alcoholic demand is around 0.71, which implies the demand for alcoholic consumption is relatively necessary The own price elasticity estimates are pretty elastic between -1.79 and 2.10. The trend of price elasticity estimates shows to be more elastic recently from the past.
