  • Cladding material, which can selectively obtain excellent properties of different metals, is a composite material that combines two or more types of dissimilar metals into one plate. The titanium-copper cladding material between titanium which has excellent corrosion resistance and copper which has high thermal and electrical conductivity, are highly valuable composite materials. It can be used as heat exchangers with high conductivity under severe corrosion conditions. In order to apply the clad plate to the heat exchanger, it must be manufactured in the form of a tube and additional welding is required. It is important to select the cladding material manufacturing process and the welding process. The process of manufacturing the cladding material includes extrusion, rolling, and explosive bonding. Among them, the explosive bonding process is suitable for additional welding because no heat-affected zone is formed. In this study TIG welding of the explosive-bonded dissimilar clad plates was successfully performed by butt welding. The microstructures and bonding interface of the welded part were observed, and the effect of the bonding layer at the welding interface and the intermetallic compounds on the mechanical properties and tensile plastic deformation behaviors were analyzed. And also the integrity of TIG-welded dissimilar part was evaluated.

FPSO의 횡요 감쇠 장치에 대한 고찰 (A Study on Roll Reduction Devices for FPSOs)

  • Several roll motion reduction devices are reviewed and suggested for the application in FPSO. The firstly suggested solution is the shape of the bilge. The next is a bilge keel. The last suggestion is the ART (anti-rolling tank). Typical U-tube type ART is designed for a FPSO and examined extensively by model experiment. The model section was made of transparent acryl. Free decay test, forced oscillation test and wave test were carried out at a two-dimensional wave flume. U-tube type ART is effective only when the natural periods of ART and ship are same. Therefore, the divided U-tube type ART with split plate is suggested for the reduction of the roll motion of a FPSO over the wide range of the roll period.

  • This paper is concerned with numerical analyses for bulk forming of a single crystal milli-product, whose typical size ranges from a few hundreds ${\mu}m$ to a few mm. The numerical formulation invoked in this paper combines the crystal plasticity theory considering texture development and the ductile damage mechanics for growth of micro voids, since orientation development and growth of micro voids become the primary factors for bulk forming of milli-size products. As applications, milli-extrusion of a single crystal round bar and milli-rolling of a single crystal plate are simulated and the results are discussed in detail.

  • A real train load fluctuates along the track because of complicated movements(Bouncing, Rolling, Pitching and Yawing) and rail conditions. This research has for its object in development of a numerical train load model including fluctuation characteristics of lateral forces. It is based on Klingel movement theory of a wheelset on straight track. it presents a propriety of application by comparison between a 3D-Numerical analysis result using this train load model and a measured data. And this paper presents further study subject to improve a method about the train load modeling.

  • In this paper, Experimental results on the measurement of mechanical properties of fine patterns in the MEMS structure are described. The mechanical properties of embossing patterns on metallic thin foil is measured using the nano indentation system, that is developed by Korea Institute of Industrial Technology(KITECH). These micro embossing patterns are fabricated using CIP(Cold Isostatic Press) process on micro metallic thin foils(Al-1100) that are made by rolling process. These embossing patterned metallic thin foils(Al-1100) are used in the reflecting plate of BLU(Back Light Unit) and electrical/mechanical MEMS components. If these mechanical properties of fine patterns are utilized in a design procedure, the optimal design can be achieved in aspects of reliability as well as economy.

  • 습식 상 전환법으로 theophylline이 각인된 poly(acryloni-trile-co-acrylic acid) 막을 제조하였다. theophylline은 고분자가 공중합되는 과정에 각인시키거나(in-situ implanting) 제자리 동시 각인) 공중합된 고분자를 DMSO 용액에 녹이면서 template를 섞어 각인시켰다(post implanting, 후 각인). 막의 template molecule에 대한 흡착 선택도는 응고시키는 물의 온도가 높을수록, 혼합물의 초기 농도가 높을수록 크게 나타났다. 후 각인법으로 제조된 막의 흡착선택도가 제자리 동시각인 제작법으로 제조된 막보다 흡착선택도가 우수하였다.

수소화시킨 지르칼로이-4의 고온인장성질에 관한 연구 (A Study on the High Temperature Tensile Properties of Hyderiedrided Zircaloy-4)

  • Effects of temperature on the tensile properties of annealed and hydirded Zircaloy-4 plate in which hydrides are precitated paralled to the rolling direction were investigated. The main results obtained are as follows : 1) In annealed Zircaloy-4, yield point phenomenon was found in the temperature range of $200-550^{\circ}C$, while in hydrided alloy the phenomenon was found in the range of $200-400^{\circ}C$. 2) The dynamic strain aging behavior was occurd in the temperature interval of 400-$550^{\circ}C$in both annealed and hydrided Zircaloy-4. 3) The nearly values of yield strength, tensile stength and elongation are obtained in both annealed and hydried Zircaloy-4. From this result, we are led to conclude that the hydrides which are preiptated parallel to the circumferenial direction of nucler fuel are not so harmful for tensile properties of the clad.

증기 가열 드럼 저널부의 결함 검출에 대한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Defect Detection for the Steam Heating Drum Journal)

  • Recently, in the food, paper, steel and plastic industries, plate or sheet type products have been produced by the rolling drum. Steam heating drums are introduced into plastic products facilities in order to keep the density, microstructure, and strength of material uniformly. The drum journal can not help being concentrated by stresses due to the bending and torsion. Especially the drum, heated by high pressure steam, might be exposed in the steam leakage accident. First of all, the stresses on the steam drum journal are to be analyzed, and a case study proper to the subject was performed with a scraped journal, in order to investigate the failure characteristics as well as the initiation and propagation of fatigue cracks, and most probable circumstances of crack initiation. As the result of this study, it is suggested that newly installed drum journal be thoroughly inspected at the next periodic maintenance intervals for evidence of cracking, the microstructure examination and hardness measurements to prevent steam drum from the failure accident.

압연가공판재의 수소저장과 팽창거동과의 관계 (The Relation between Hydrogen absorption and Expansion behavior in the Rolled Plate)

  • In order to study the relation between expansion of the specimen and the hydrogen absorption rate, thin palladium plates with cold rolling were used. Thin palladium plates were hydrogenated in the 0.1mol $H_2SO_4$ electrolyte by electrochemical method. The expansion behavior on hydrogen absorbing can be obtained by X-ray diffraction analysis and by micrometer measurement It is noted that the expansion rate of Palladium specimens in thickness direction is larger than in length and width direction. The lattice constants increase quickly with increasing hydrogen absorbing rate up to 0.5, but above the rate they keep constant. Also the clues for plastic deformation, such as slip lines and voids, were observed in abundantly even though the plates were hydrogenated once.

  • A duplex stainless steel sheet with 1 wt.% gadolinium was fabricated for a neutron absorbing material with high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and low cost as well as high neutron absorption capability. The microstructure of the as-cast specimen has typical duplex phases including 31% ferrite and 69% austenite. Main alloy elements like chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), and gadolinium (Gd) are relatively uniformly distributed in the matrix. Gadolinium rich precipitates were present in the grains and at the grain boundaries. The solution treatment at $1070^{\circ}$ for 50 minutes followed by the hot-rolling above $950^{\circ}$ after keeping the sheet at $1200^{\circ}$ for 1.5 hours are important points of the optimum condition to produce a 6 mm-thick plate without cracking.
