  • Ship structures are basically an assembly of plate elements and the load-carrying capacity or the ultimate strength is one of the most important criteria for safety assessment and economic design. Also, Structural elements making up ship plated structures do not work separately, resulting in high degree of redundancy and complexity, in contrast to those of steel framed structures. To enable the behavior of such structures to be analyzed, simplifications or idealizations must essentially be made considering the accuracy needed and the degree of complexity of the analysis to be used. On this study, to investigate effect of analysis range, the finite element method are used and their results are compared varying the analysis ranges. The model has been selected from bottom panels of large merchant ship structures. For FEA, three types of structural modeling are adopted in terms of the extent of the analysis. The purpose of the present study is to numerically calculate the characteristics of ultimate strength behavior according to the analysis ranges of stiffened panels subject to uniaxial compressive loads.

  • An E-OPMT(Electronically-controllable OPMT) was developed as an alternative of OPMT which could adjust the direction of the generated guided waves in a plate manually. The key idea of controlling the wave direction electronically is based on a few sets of axisymmetric figure-of-eight coils and the magnet which is located for making static omni-directionally biasing magnetic field over the patch. However, in order to explain wave phenomenon generated by this transducer, a new approach is required because there are various combinations between static biasing magnetic field and dynamic actuating magnetic field on the patch, not similar to OPMT. In this paper, the experiments were performed to understand characteristics of E-OPMT and the new theoretical analysis was set up for explaining the result.

  • The paper proposes a practical meshless method for the free vibration analysis of clamped plates having arbitrary shapes by extending the non-dimensional dynamic influence function (NDIF) method, which was developed by the author in 1999. In the proposed method, the domain and boundary of the plate of interest are discretized using only nodes without elements unlike FEM and the system matrices are obtained by making domain nodes and boundary nodes satisfy the governing differential equation and boundary conditions, respectively. However, since the above system matrices are not square ones, the problem of free vibrations of clamped plates is not reduced to an algebraic eigenvalue problem. An additional theoretical treatment is considered to produce an algebraic eigenvalue problem. It is revealed from case studies that the proposed method is valid and accurate.

  • This study is to understand the characteristics of axial force behavior that operates to the part of continuous welded rail and to investigate the basic data for secure the structure's stability and retrofit of the track. To develop the FEM model that type of plate girder which is used in the domestic national railway among servicing railway type. It is to analyze the characteristics of axial force behavior according to equip of the expansion joint and support placing by using the axial force simulation in making the continuous welded rail. As the result of research on the parametric valuables through the analysis, it is investigated that 'FMFM type' is more efficient than the other support type. Also, it conclude that structures are having the expansion joint is the most safe condition.

  • Due to the construction of high-rise and long axis etc, UHPC(Ultra High Performance Concrete) has attracted attention as a material that will replace the existing concrete. In order to improve the structural performance of each member joints, after demolding the concrete, method for surface treatment of the contact surface or by modifying the mold to create a shear key will be applied. In this study, to improve the conventional shear key manufacturing process, utilizing a 3d printer to produce a shear key plate. 3D printers have advantage it is inexpensively manufactured as compared with other production methods. Therefore, this study utilizes a 3D printer, we propose the shear key-shaped mold and plate shear key production measures.

  • This study is an experiment using the non-thermal plasma for removal of NOx, SOx. This experimental setup is made up the superposing discharge electrode in order to increase the removal. Both electrode are plate and niddle electrode, back of plate installed the lower electrode making pure silver. The result of the superposing discharge is thought that the rate of removal increase by means of rising effect. This is studied the property to the U.V irradiation and temperature dependence of the flue gas.

  • A Photovoltaic/Thermal(PVT) solar system consists of PV module and thermal absorber plate which convert the absorbed solar radiation into electricity and heat. Meaningful researches and development (R&D) on the PVT technologies have been performed since the 1970s. This paper presents a review of the previous works covering the various types of PVT and their performance analysis in terms of electrical and thermal efficiency. This review compares electrical and thermal efficiency of the different types of PVT collectors and analyzes the parameters affecting PVT performance. Based on the literature review, box charmel type PVT with unglazed, or flat plate PVT with glazed have the highest efficiency among them. From the literature review, R&D should be carried out aiming at improving their overall electrical and thermal efficiency and cutting down the cost, making them more competitive in the energy consumption market.

  • In roll forming process, a sheet metal is continuously progressively formed into a product with required cross-section and longitudinal shape, such as a circular tube with required diameter, wall-thickness and straightness, by passing through a series of forming rolls in arranged in tandem. Tn this process, each pair of forming rolls installed in a forming machine play a particular role in making up the required cross-section and longitudinal shape of the product. In recent years, that process is often applied to the bumper rail in the automotive industries. In this study, a optimal Front Bumper Beam manufacturing technology, model deign and proper roll-pass sequences can be suggested by forming number of roll-pass and bending angle. And also effects of the process parameters on the final shape formed by roll forming defects were evaluated.

  • The CWR of the plate girder bridges in non-ballast causes the additional axial force on the rail and the bearing due to the temperature axial force and the interaction between the CWR and bridges. This study shows the remarkable improvement of reducing the axial force of the CWR on the non-ballast bridge, compared to conventional methods. New method, which is differently designed in terms of longitudinal semi-rigid bearing, reduces the axial force on the bearing by making the girder act both directions. This method is applicable to most cases of bridges regardless of the restriction of length, and useful to reduce the abrasion and damage of the track material.

  • This paper proposes a new color segmentation method of vehicle license plates in the RGB color space. Firstly, the proposed method shifts the histogram of an input image rightwards and then stretches the image of the histogram slide. Secondly, the method separates each of the three RGB color components and performs the adaptive threshold processing with the three components, respectively. Finally, it combines the three components under the condition of making up a segment color and removes noises with the morphological processing. The proposed method is implemented using C language in an embedded Linux system for a high-speed real-time image processing. Experiments were conducted by using real vehicle images. The results show that the proposed algorithm is successful for most vehicle images. However, the method fails in some vehicles when the body and the license plate have the same color.
