The ability of P. chlororaphis O6 to induce resistance to Erwinia carotovora subsp. carotovara SCCI and to promote growth in tobacco was demonstrated in microtiter assays on plants pre-inoculated at the root level with the bacteria before challenge with the leaf pathogen. To identify th bacterial determinants involved in induced systemic resistance and plant growth promotion, cell culture of O6 grown in King's medium B was fractionated with organic solvents and purified using various columns. in vivo and in vitro assays with samples from successive fractionation steps of the O6 supernatant led to the conclusion that antibacterial compounds were observed in aqueous layer, and to the isolation of fractions containing metabolites that retained most of the resistance-inducing activity (70:30, methanol:water) and the plant growth promotion (80:20 and 90:10, methanol:water) after ODS column chromatography. Although these molecules remain to be purified further and structurally characterized, its isolation is an addition to the range of determinants from plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria known to stimulate plant defence.
Silicon is one of the key elements for healthy growth and development in rice crops. We analyzed the effect of silicon(Si) on some growth parameters, plant mineral contents, and bioactive gibberellins in three rice cultivars. Silicon was applied at the rates of 0 kg/0.1ha(control), 40 kg/0.1ha, and 80 kg/0.1ha throughout the course of experiment. Plant growth parameters were enhanced by the application of elevated Si, though plant height and culm length were more favorably affected than the respective dry weights. The plant mineral contents analyzed also increased in treatments where Si was applied without potassium, demonstrating that Si application promotes the absorption of these minerals in rice crops. The endogenous gibberellins measured in our study showed that $GA_1$ is the only bioactive GA form present in rice seedlings. The endogenous $GA_1$ and its precursor $GA_{20}$ contents increased after Si application. However, this increase in endogenous $GA_1$ and $GA_{20}$ contents, and plant growth parameters were different according to the rice cultivars. Our results indicate that Si is a beneficial element in rice nutrition and that different cultivars of Oryza sativa show differential responses to Si nutrition in terms of their growth and development.
In this treatise, we research hardware and software for measurement of most suitable condition of the plant growth. that is part of the future oriented that plant growing system. The environment cannot offer the most suitable condition of the plant growth. so we are approached most suitable condition of the plant growth by adjustment of artificial condition of the plant growth but in theses experiment includes some fault that is subjectivity of observation. therefor we develop vision equipment and software for objective observation measurement.
The studies of density effect or the effect of population density on plant growth have been done on basis of dry matter production with Raphanus acanthiformis var. simoodaeguen, Brassica campestris var. Pekinensis f. namsounsokoombecheu, Oryza sativa f. kimmajae and O. sativa f. mangyeng grown in the various spacing. 1. In the early period of plant growth in dry weight was not different each other among varying densities, but as time advanced the plant grown vast space grew sufficiently compared with those of narrow one. 2. Iogarithmic relation between the growth of plant (W) and the density (P), log W-log P in the material plants, were approximated by two straight lines, one was horizontal line and another inclined: the former showed non-competition density and the latter competition density addition to these the point interlinking both lines were implied of the optimum density per unit land area at certain growth period. 3. The values of relatvie growth rate (RGR) and net assimilation rate (NAR) were decreased as increase in the density, while those of leaf area ratio (LAR) were rather increased in the same condition, with minor exception. From these results and relation between the productive structure and due to lack of the recieved light intensity owing to the mutal shading among the plants.
Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) have been shown to suppress phytopthora blight. This suppression has been related to both microbial antagonism and induced resistance. The PGPR isolates were screened by dual culture plate method and most of the isolates were showed varying levels of antagonism. Among the PGPR isolates pyoverdin, pyochelin and salicylic acid producing strains showed the maximum inhibition of mycelial growth of Phytopkhora capsici and increased plant growth promotion in red pepper. PGPR isolates further analysed for its ability to induce production of defence related enzymes and chemicals. The activities such as Phenyle alanin ammonia Iyase (PAL), Peroxidase (PO), Polyphenol oxidase (PPO) and accumulation of phenolics were observed in PGPR pretreated red pepper plants challenged with Phytopkhora capsici. The present study shows that an addition of direct antagonism and plant growth promotion, induction of defense related enzymes involved to enhance resistance against invasion of P. capsici in red pepper.
This study was one of a series of studies on application of machine vision and image processing to extract the geometrical features of plants and to analyze plant growth. Several algorithms were developed to measure morphological properties of plants and describing the growth development of in-situ lettuce(Lactuca sativa L.). Canopy, centroid, leaf density and fractal dimension of plant were measured from a top viewed binary image. It was capable of identifying plants by a thinning top viewed image. Overlapping the thinning side viewed image with a side viewed binary image of plant was very effective to auto-detect meaningful nodes associated with canopy components such as stem, branch, petiole and leaf. And, plant height, stem diameter, number and angle of branches, and internode length and so on were analyzed by using meaningful nodes extracted from overlapped side viewed images. Canopy, leaf density and fractal dimension showed high relation with fresh weight or growth pattern of in-situ lettuces. It was concluded that machine vision system and image processing techniques are very useful in extracting geometrical features and monitoring plant growth, although interactive methods, for some applications, were required.
In order to clarify the effect of the associative nitrogen fixing bacteria on the growth of corn(Zea mays L. Suwon19), we inoculated corn seedlings with Azospirillum amazonense Y1, a micro-aerobic and acid-tolerant nitrogen fixer, and analyzed the growth and dry matter production and changes of nitrogen and phosphorus quantity of the plant during the growing period. The inoculation of associative N-fixing bacgteria increased the growth of height, leaf area, dry weight and total nitrogen quantity of the plant by 15.4%, 65.4%, 33.7% and 38.0%, respectively, on the day of 56th after sowing. Especially the inoculation of A. amazonense Y1 showed two to three-fold accumulation of phosphorus in each organ of plant. The associative bacteria accelerated the growth of the under ground parts more than those of the upper ground parts of corn plant, and caused decrease in T/R ratios.
Shimizuomyces paradoxus showed no inhibitory effect against plant pathogen fungi, such as Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici and Alternaria solani. The S. paradoxus culture filtrate showed higher seed germination and seedling growth rates in canola than distilled water and potato-dextrose broth. A conidial suspension of $1.0{\times}10^4/mL$ resulted in the highest growth stimulating effects on total plant length, and fresh and dry weight of shoots and roots in cucumber, when compared to the highest suspension concentration. Total plant length and shoot weight increased with the foliar spray treatment, and root length and root weight increased by simultaneous treatments of soil drenching and foliar spray in cucumber. Lower concentrations of the S. paradoxus conidial suspension increased the harvest of tomato fruit.
Light exerts two primary roles in plant growth and development. Plants acquire all biochemical energy required for growth and propagation solely from light energy via photosynthesis. In addition, light serves as a medium through which plants recognize environmental fluctuations, such as photoperiod and presence of neighboring animals and plants. Plants therefore constantly monitor the direction, intensity, duration, and wavelength of environmental light and integrate these light signals into the intrinsic regulatory programs to achieve an optimized growth in a given light condition. Although light regulates all aspects of plant growth and developmental aspects, the molecular mechanisms and signaling cascades involved have not been well established until recently. However, recent advances in genetic tools and plant transformation techniques greatly facilitated the elucidation of molecular events in plant photomorphogenesis. This mini-review summarizes the gist of recent findings in deetiolation and suppression of shade avoidance response as classic examples of the phytochrome-mediated photomorphogenesis.
In this study, bacterial strains were isolated from soils from 30 locations of Samcheok, Gangwon province. Of the isolated strains, seven showed potential plant growth promoting and antagonistic activities. Based on cultural and morphological characterization, and 16S rRNA gene sequencing, these strains were identified as Paenibacillus species. All seven strains produced ammonia, cellulase, hydrocyanic acid, indole-3-acetic acid, protease, phosphatase, and siderophores. They also inhibited the mycelial growth of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. radicis-lycopersici in vitro. The seven Paenibacillus strains enhanced a range of growth parameters in tomato plants under greenhouse conditions, in comparison with non-inoculated control plants. Notably, treatment of tomato plants with one identified strain, P. polymyxa SC09-21, resulted in 80.0% suppression of fusarium crown and root rot under greenhouse conditions. The plant growth promoting and antifungal activity of P. polymyxa SC09-21 identified in this study highlight its potential suitability as a bioinoculant.
