  • The effect of curvature, rotation, variable cross-section can make very complex flow pattern in turbo-machinery such as Pumps, compressors, turbines, In this study of turbulent flow characteristics rotating $90^{\circ}$ curved duct under a Plane rate of strain condition is computationally analyzed. The objective of this study is to understand the complex turbulent flow phenomena in turbo-machinery passage by analyzing the modeled rotating $90^{\circ}$ curved duct flow. RSM(Reynolds Stress Model) was employed for the turbulence modeling of Reynolds stress in momentum equations proposed by Shin(1995). The three dimensional computational code which adopts RSM for trubulence modeling was newly developed for the generalized curvilinear coordinate.

  • A non-quadratic anisotropic strain rate potential was introduced as a conjugate potential of the yield stress potential Yld2000-2d to describe anisotropic behavior of sheet metals, in particular, aluminum alloy sheets under plane stress state. This strain-rate potential takes into account the anisotropic yield stresses and R-values measured along the directions measured at 0, 45 and 90 degrees from the rolling direction, as well as the balanced biaxial yield stress and strain-rate ratio. The convexity of the strain-rate potential was completely proven. The strain-rate potential was applied for two anisotropic aluminum alloy sheets, AA6022-T4 and AA2090-T3. The results verified that the strain rate potential properly described the anisotropic behavior of aluminum alloy sheets and was closely conjugate of Yld2000-2d under the plane stress state.

  • For most engineering materials are influenced by the dominant mechanism resisting crack extention under large scale yielding conditions. Continuum mechanics analysis shows that fracture toughness, in addition to depending on young's modulus, flow stress strain hardening exponent, and yield strain, should be nearly proportoinal to the effective fracture ductility obtained for the stress state characteristic for region ahead of the crack; plane stress or plane strain. It's known that, in most ductile materials, crack propagation of the material strongly governed by the $J_{IC}$ value, which is still difficult to determine for it's complicate and treble-some determinative process. This paper, on the assumption that, initiation of crack tip strain field reaches on the relationships between the critical value of J-integral ($J_{IC}$) and the local fracture strain(${\varepsilon}_c$) in uniaxial tensile test in the region of maximun reduction areas was described.

  • Anisotropy of stiffiness, from extremely small strains to post-failure strains, of isotropically consolidated air-pulviated sands in plane strain compression was studied by using the newly developed instrumentation for small strain measurements. Seven types of sand of the world-wide origins were tested, which have been extensively used for research purposes. Stress-strain relationships for a wide range of strain from about 0.0001% to 10% were obtained with measuring axial and lateral strains locally free from the effects of bedding and membrane penetration errors at the specimen boundaries. It was found that the maximum shear modulus Gmax was irrespective of the angle $\delta$of the $\sigma$1 direction relative to the bedding plane. However, the normalized Gmax was varied with the types of sand. Furthermore, the dependency of the strain and stress level on the stiffness increased as decreased.

  • New insights are presented in simplified modeling and analysis of free vibrations of piezoelectric - based smart structures and systems. These consist, first, in extending the wide used piezoelectric-thermal analogy (TA) simplified modeling approach in currently static actuation to piezoelectric free-vibrations under short-circuit (SC) and approximate open-circuit (OC) electric conditions; second, the popular piezoelectric strain induced - potential (IP) simplified modeling concept is revisited. It is shown that the IP resulting frequencies are insensitive to the electric SC/OC conditions; in particular, SC frequencies are found to be the same as those resulting from the newly proposed OC TA. Two-dimensional plane strain (PStrain) and plane stress (PStress) free-vibrations problems are then analyzed for above used SC and approximate OC electric conditions. It is shown theoretically and validated numerically that, for both SC and OC electric conditions, PStress frequencies are lower than PStrain ones, and that 3D frequencies are bounded from below by the former and from above by the latter. The same holds for the modal electro-mechanical coupling coefficient that is retained as a comparator of presented models and analyses.

  • FEM requires the stress-strain relationship equations for numerical analyses. However, most formulations for the stress-strain relationship published up to the present are not satisfactory enough to properly express all the levels from the small strain to the peak. Tatsuoka and Shibuya (1991) suggested a new single formulation applicable not only to a wide range of geo-materials from soft clay to soft rock, but also to a wide range of strain levels from $10^{-6}$ to $10^{-2}$. The plain strain compression test is carried out to seven samples of research standard sand specimens and two samples of glass beads, which have been used at world-renowned research institutes. In this study, strains of the maximum principal stress (${\sigma}_1$) and the minimum principal stress (${\sigma}_3$) were thoroughly measured from $10^{-6}$ to $10^{-2}$, and the result, applied to Tatsuoka and Shibuya's new formulation, coincided closely with the measured data of the stress-strain relationship from the small strain to the peak.

  • Anisotropy of stiffness, from extremely small strains to post-failure strains, of isotropically consolidated air-pluviated sands in plane strain compression was studied by using the newly developed instrumentation fur small strain measurements, Seven types of sand of world-wide origins were tested, which have been extensively used for research purposes. Stress-strain relationships for a wide range of strain from about 0.0001% to the peak were obtained by measuring axial and lateral strains locally free from the effects of bedding and membrane penetration errors at the specimen boundaries. The result showed that the relationship between the principal stress ratio and the principal strain increment ratio was constant, being rarely affected by the over-consolidation ratio and the confining pressure. Although in the small strain the anisotropy hardly affected the relationship between the principal stress ratio and the principal strain increment ratio, the K value around the peak varied according to the $\delta$ value. In general, Rowe\`s stress-dilatancy equation works fairly well from the small strain to the peak.

  • On the basis of the energy approach it is reported a development of the yield function and the constitutive equations for the orthotropic material with consideration of the crystal lattice constants and parameters of the crystallographic texture for the general stress state. For practical use in sheet metal forming analysis it is considered different loading scenarios: plane stress and plane strain states. Using the proposed yield function, the influence of single ideal components on the shape of yield surface was analyzed. The six texture components investigated here were cube, Goss, copper, brass, S and rotated cube, as these components are typically observed in rolled sheets from FCC alloys.

  • The objectives of this study is intended to analyze stresses using the boundary element method and probability analysis for agricultural structure. Loads and material properties are an important factor when analyzing the structure. Until now, designing structure, loads and material properties are applied deterministic value. However, load and material properties involve uncertainties due to those change probabilistic and deterministic methods could not consider uncertainties. To solve these problems, the reliability analysis based on probability properties scheme was developed. Reliability analysis is easy to approach to analysis frame structure, however it has limitation when solving plane stress strain problems a kind of agricultural structures. The BEM (Boundary Element Method) is able to analysis plane strain problems by boundary conditions. Thus, this study applied boundary element method to analysis plane strain problem, load and material properties as a probabilistic value to calculate the analytical model using Monte Carlo simulations were developed.
