This research investigates the impact of charge spreading on the data retention of three-dimensional (3D) silicon-oxide-nitride-oxide-silicon (SONOS) flash memory where the charge trapping layer is shared along the cell string. In order to do so, this study conducts an electrical analysis of the planar SONOS test pattern where the silicon nitride charge storage layer is not isolated but extends beyond the gate electrode. Experimental results from the test pattern show larger retention loss in the devices with extended storage layers compared to isolated devices. This retention degradation is thought to be the result of an additional charge spreading through the extended silicon nitride layer along the width of the memory cell, which should be improved for the successful 3-D application of SONOS flash devices.
Ni/YSZ $(Y_2O_3-stabilized\;ZrO_2)$ composite as an electrode component for High Temperature Electrolysis (HTE) was fabricated by mechanical alloying method using Ni and YSZ powders. Characterization of the synthesized composite was investigated with various analysis tools, including XRD, SEM and PSA, and a self-supporting planar unit cell prepared with the Ni/YSZ composite was prepared to study the electrochemical reactions for the production of hydrogen. The Ni/YSZ cermet is composed of crystalline Ni and YSZ, in a sub-micro scale, and has an even distribution without aggregated particles. In addition, under an electrochemical reaction, the unit cell showed an $H_2$ evolution rate from steam of 14 Nml/min and $600mA/cm^2$ of current density at the electrode.
This study investigated the long-term durability of catalyst(Pd or Fe)-infiltrated solid oxide cells for $CO_2$/steam co-electrolysis. Fuel-electrode supported solid oxide cells with dimensions of $5{\times}5cm^2$ were fabricated, and palladium or iron was subsequently introduced via wet infiltration (as a form of PdO or FeO solution). The metallic catalysts were employed in the fuel-electrode to promote $CO_2$ reduction via reverse water gas shift reactions. The metal-precursor particles were well-dispersed on the fuel-electrode substrate, which formed a bimetallic alloy with Ni embedded on the substrate during high-temperature reduction processes. These planar cells were tested using a mixture of $H_2O$ and $CO_2$ to measure the electrochemical and gas-production stabilities during 350 h of co-electrolysis operations. The results confirmed that compared to the Fe-infiltrated cell, the Pd-infiltrated cell had higher stabilities for both electrochemical reactions and gas-production given its resistance to carbon deposition.
In this study, the effects of counter ion valency of the electrolyte on the colloidal repulsion between two parallel cylindrical particles were investigated. Electrostatic interactions of the cylindrical particles were calculated with the variation of counter ion valency. To calculate the electrical repulsive energy working between these two cylindrical particles, Derjaguin approximation was applied. The electrostatic potential profiles were obtained numerically by solving nonlinear Poission-Boltzmann (P-B) equation and calculating middle point potential and repulsive energy working between interacting surfaces. The electrical potential and repulsive energy were influenced by counter ion valency, Debye length, and surface potential. The potential profile and middle point potential decayed with the counter ion valency due to the promoted shielding of electrical charge. On the while, the repulsive energy increased with the counter ion valency at a short separation distance. These behaviors of electrostatic interaction agreed with previous results on planar or spherical surfaces.
Two Crystal structures of fully dehydrated partially magnesium exchanged zeolite A, stoichiometries of $Mg_{2.5}Na_7-A$ (a = 12.251 (1) ${\AA}$) and $Mg_{1.5}Na_9-A\; (a\;=\;12.214(1)\;{\AA})$ per unit cell, have been determined from the 3-dimensional X-ray diffraction data gathered by counter methods. All structures were solved and refined in the cubic space group Pm3m at 21(1)$^{\circ}C$. The structures of the dehydrated $Mg_{2.5}Na_7-A$ and $Mg_{1.5}Na_9-A$ were refined to yield the final error indices $R_1$ = 0.042 and $R_2$ = 0.049 with 318 reflections, and $R_1$ = 0.034 and $R_2$ = 0.032 with 252 reflections, respectively, for which I > $3{\sigma}(I)$. Both structures indicate that $Mg^{2+}$ ions are coordinated by three framework oxygens and the angle substended at $Mg^{2+}$ ions, O(3)-Mg(1)-O(3) is ca. $120^{\circ}$, close to the idealized trigonal planar value. $Mg^{2+}$ ions preferentially occupy 6-ring sites and $Na^+$ ions occupy 8-ring sites when total number of cations per unit cell is more than 8.
In this study, we investigate the liquid crystal (LC) alignment of LC cells created from plant-based polysaccharide derivatives, such as guar gum. Guar gum films exhibit satisfactorily high optical transparency in the visible light region (400-750 nm). For example, the transmittance of polyimide films, which are the most typically used LC alignment layers, is 87%, whereas that of guar gum films deposited onto a glass substrate at a wavelength of 550 nm is approximately 99%. The observed LC alignment depends on the rubbing depth. For example, an LC cell comprising a guar gum film fabricated via rubbing at rubbing depths of 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, and 0.4 mm exhibits a planar LC alignment, whereas it exhibits a vertical LC alignment at a rubbing depth of 0.5 mm. Additionally, the LC alignment is shown to be correlated with the total surface energy of the guar gum films. When the total surface energy of a rubbed guar gum film exceeds 58.10 mJ/m2, an LC cell comprising the guar gum film exhibits a stable and vertical LC alignment. Therefore, guar gum can be used to realize the vertical alignment system of LC via a simple adjustment of the rubbing depth.

This study performed the numerical analysis of the internal flow phenomena of 1 kWe-class solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) stacks with internal manifold type and planar cells using commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software, Star-CCM+. In particular, the locations where the turbulent phenomena occur inside the SOFC stack were investigated. In addition, the laminar flow model and the standard k-ε turbulent model were used to calculate the SOFC stack, separately. And, the calculation results of both laminar and turbulent models were compared. The calculation results showed that turbulent phenomena occurred mainly in the cathode flow. Especially, the turbulent phenomena were found in the cathode inlet/outlet region, and local turbulence occurred in the end plate near the inlet pipe.
Recently, eco-friendly sources of energy by fuel cells that use hydrogen as an energy source has emerged as the next generation of energy to solve the problem of environmental issues and exhaustion of energy. A solid oxide fuel cell(SOFC) classified based on the type of ion transfer mediator electrolyte has actively being researched. However, the reliability according to the thermal cycle is low during the operation of the fuel cell, and deformation problem comes from the difference in thermal expansion coefficient between the electrode material, the components made of ceramic material is also brittle, which means disadvantages in terms of the strength. Therefore, in this study, considering the states of the manufacturing and operating of SOFC single cells, the stress analyses in the each of the interfacial layer between the anode, electrolyte and the cathode were performed to get the basic data for reliability assessment of SOFC. The obtained results show that von Mises stress according to the thickness direction on operating state occurred maximum stress value in the electrolyte layer. And also the stresses inside the active area on a distance of 1 ${\mu}m$ from the electrode interface were estimated. Futhermore the evaluation was done for the variation of the stress according to the stage of the operation divided into three stages of manufacturing, stack, and operating.
This paper addresses a new method for constructing surface representation of 3D structures from a sequence of tomographic cross-sectional images, Firstly, we propose cell-boundary representation by transforming the cuberille space into cell space. A cell-boundary representation consists of a set of boundary cells with their 1-voxel configurations, and can compactly describe binary volumetric data. Secondly, to produce external surface from the cell-boundary representation, we define 19 modeling primitives (MP) including volumetric, planar and linear groups. Surface polygons are created from those modeling primitives using a simple table look-up operation. Comparing with previous method such as Marching Cube or PVP algorithm, our method is robust and does not make any crack in resulting surface model. Hardware implementation is expected to be easy because our algorithm is simple(scan-line), efficient and guarantees data locality in computation time.

In this paper, an EBG(Electromagnetic BandGap) resonator antenna with a stripline type FSS(Frequency Selective Surface) superstrate for PCS-band base station antennas is proposed. The characteristics of resonant frequency and -3dB bandwidth of a unit cell of a superstrate are first analyzed by varing several design parameters such as a strip width and a unit cell width in order to design an EBG resonator antenna satisfying the required antenna gain and bandwidth for PCS-band base station antennas. Among various unit cell shapes, strip dipole and stripline are considered and their characteristics are compared. It was found that a resonant length of the EBG resonator antenna becomes smaller when the stripline shape is used and the control of the bandwidth is also much easier. By using the unit cell simulation results, planar and cylindrical EBG resonator antennas at PCS-band are designed.
