  • This paper presents optimal placement of minimal set of phasor measurement units(PMU's) and observability of measurement system with PMU. By using the incidence matrix symbolic method which directly assigns measurement and pseudo-measurement to incidence matrix, it is much simpler and easier to analyze observability. The optimal PMU set is found through the simulated-annealing(SA) and the direct combinational method. The cooling schedule parameter which is suitable to the property of problem to solve is specified and optimal placement is proven by presented direct combinational method. Search spaces are limited within reasonable feasible solution region to reduce a unnecessary one in the SA implementation based on global search. The proposed method presents to save CPU time and estimate state vectors based on optimal PMU set.

  • Crane operation for transporting heavy loads causes swinging motion at the loads. This sway causes the suspension ropes to leave their grooves and leads to possibility of serious damages. Generally crane is operated by expert's knowledge. Therefore, a satisfactory control method to supress object sway during transport is indispensible. The dynamic behavior of the crane shows nonlinear characteristics. when the length of the rope is changed the crane is time varying system and the design of anti-sway controller is very difficult. In this paper, the nonlinear dynamic model for the industrial overhead crane is derived. and the feedback gain matrix based on the pole-placement method is proposed to supress the swing motion and control the position of the crane. The performance of the controller for the crane model is simulated on the personal computer.

  • This paper discusses on application of meta-heuristic algorithms such as the genetic algorithm (GA) and the simulated annealing (SA) to the LSI module placement. We propose useful crossover method for improving of searching capability in genetic algorithm. By using our proposed crossover method, we have been able to keep good schemata in the chromosome and the variety of the solution. From the experimental results, we have obtained better result than the simulated annealing method by starting from the initial placement of the min-cut method.

  • Optimization of the collocated piezoceramic sensor/actuator placement is investigated numerically and verified experimentally for vibration control of laminated composite plates. The finite element method is used for the analysis of dynamic characteristics of the laminated composite plates with the piezoceramic sensor/actuator. The structural damping index(SDI) is defined from the modal damping(2$\omega$ζ) . It is chosen as the objective function for optimization. Weights for each vibrational mode are taken into account in the SDI calculation. The gradient method is used for the optimization. Optimum location of the piezoceramic sensor/actuator is determined by maximizing the SDI. Numerical simulation and experimental results show that the optimum location of the piezoceramic sensor/actuator is dependent upon the outer layer fiber orientations of the plate, and location and size of the piezoceramic sensor/actuator.

  • The optimal AP placement for wireless LAN is important factor for improving service quality and reducing cost. Decision of AP placement is depend on radio signal strength, environment factor and logical area property, which is user's frequently posed place. This paper proposes optimal multiple AP placement method based on radio prediction tool. The proposed method can get flexibility in multiple AP placement using user defined parameter and the optimization design uses Hopfield network algorithm. And path-loss model is used for one of radion prediction model. The result of simulation shows that it is efficiently reduces the process to find optimal AP placement. And the proposed optimization design of multiple AP placement can improve service quality for wireless LAN.

  • This study takes shear wall of reinforced concrete structure as study object, and the purpose of this study is to suggest structure BIM based on automatic reinforcing bar placement system applying set-based design through the most optimum reinforcing bar placement group that was selected by applying AHP (analytical hierarchy process) method from design step. For this, the most optimum reinforcing bar placement group was selected by pairwise comparison analysis on complex standard of multiple alternatives. And shear wall automatic reinforcing bar placement system has been developed, which can automatically generate members and arrange reinforcing bar by structure design algorithm and using open API (application programming interface) provided by a BIM software vendor. As a result, the most optimum reinforcing bar placement group of the highest weight, ALT1, was selected and was generated using Tekla Structure program.

  • Among the various manufacturing processes of composites, the tape lay-up process of thermoset prepreg has many advantages compared to autoclave or hot press forming. It has a high potential to process automation and continuous fabrication .. Fiber placement developed as a logical combination of filament winding and automated tape placement to overcome some of the limitations of each manufacturing method.   • A pole-placement control of discrete, deterministic, single-input single-output nonmini-mum phase systems is considered using a model reference type approach. The proposed pole-placement controller is designed in the parameter form to make the transfer function of the controller equal to that of the reference model with only single variable polynomial S(q-1). The proposed adaptive pole-placement controllr is designed with the true system para-meters by applying the adaptation method to the proposed pole-placement controller.

  • This paper presents a scheme to design optimal placement of phase-shifting transformers for power system congestion problems. A good design of phase-shifting transformers placement can improve total transfer capability in interconnected systems. In order to find the optimal placement of phase-shifting transformers, the power flows of the interesting transmission lines are evaluated using sequential quadratic programming technique. This algorithm considers power balance equations and security constraints such as voltage magnitudes and transmission line capacities. The proposed scheme is tested in 10 machines 39 buses and IEEE 57 buses systems. Test result shows that the proposed method can find the optimal placement of phase-shifting transformers to solver power system congestion problems.

  • This paper presents a fuzzy dynamic output feedback controller design method for Parallel Distributed Compensation (PDC)-type Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) model based fuzzy dynamic system with H$\infty$ performance and additional constraints on the closed pole placement. Design condition for these controller is obtained in terms of the linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The proposed fuzzy controller satisfies the disturbance rejection performance and the desired transient response. The design method is verified by this method for an inverted pendulum with a cart using the proposed method.
