The ground-borne vibration from pile driving is causing many public discontents. However, because of the fact that the characteristics of wave propagation and attenuation are not well understood, systematic and effective vibration reduction measures can not be taken. This paper attempts to study the propagation of stress waves induced by the pile driving. To simulate the wave propagation in a semi-infinite domain, the so-called absorbing boundaries are incorporated in the finite element method and a series of numerical simulations is performed. Numerical results show that the surface displacement and velocity increase first and then decrease as the pile penetration depth becomes larges.

The bearing capacity of drilled shafts that take excavation by Percussion Rrotary Drilling(PRD) into consideration was evaluated using static and dynamic pile load tests. The emphasis was on quantifying the allowable bearing capacity and point load-transfer at the pile tip on seven instrumented steel piles. Of the seven instrumented piles, five piles are placed to the bottom of the excavation by rotary and pushing into the final depth of the excavation, as opposed to the two driven piles. Based on the results obtained, it is shown that the skin friction mobilized by PRD is much greater than point resistance, whereas in driven piles, the point resistance is greater than skin friction. It is also found that much greater pile capacity was proved in the case of drilled shafts, compared to the driven piles and thus, the excavation by rotary drilling gives reliable pile capacity required to design axially loaded piles.

The spot where bottom foundation of a marine bridge is constructed is deep in depth of water and a bedrock, bearing stratum, is very deeply distributed. So, I analyzed material of soil profile and then evaluate bearing capacity and safety of settlement when a stake of site construction is designed using a projection cast in place concrete pile and a sacrifice steel cast in place pile. Also, I analyzed and researched pratical affairs like a slime processing and plumbing maintenance in supervision of execution.

Many numerical analysis tools for predicting penetration speed of sheet pile are thought to be unreliable because they overestimate penetration speed for shallow depth of penetration. In order to overcome the defects of numerical analysis, lateral vibration model of sheet pile was suggested and energy consumption due to lateral vibration of sheet pile was estimated. Also, load reduction factor which explains reduction of vibratory driving force due to lateral vibration was introduced.
In order to make use of finished municipal landfill as a construction site, it is necessary to consider environmental and geotechnical aspects for the ground improvement and application of waste landfill. In environmental aspect, methods for management of landfill gas and leachate have to be established, and in geotechnical aspect, it is necessary to investigate available method for constructing structure foundation. In this study, the finished landfill was selected for pilot test. Investigation about the environmental characteristics of the waste landfill was performed to establish the methods far management of landfill gas according to monitoring the gas quantity and to investigate economical efficiency according to utilizing landfill gas. Investigation about cases of utilizing the waste landfill in Korea and abroad as construction site was performed and pilot tests were performed to analyze the improvement effects of methods such as dynamic compaction method and PG pile method available to waste landfill. The results of this study showed that economical profits could be gained by utilizing landfill gas and improved waste landfill, besides, dynamic compaction method was effective in case of improvement depth being shallow, and PG pile method was effective in case of improvement depth being deep.

During an earthquake, there are three main components of excitation : horizontal excitation of the ground, vertical excitation of the pile due to superstructure feedback produced by vertical excitation of the ground, and the seawater excitation induced by the vertical ground shaking, that is, "the seaquake." These excitations could have effects on the soil plugs in open-ended pie piles installed at offshore sites. In this study, seaquake excitation induced by the vertical ground shaking was simulated by pulsing the water pressure at the seabed. During a seaquake, due to the induced excess porewater pressure and pressure gradients in the soil, the capacity of open-ended pipe piles installed in a simulated sea depth of greate than 220 m was reduced serevely and the soil plugging resistance was degraded by more than 80% The soil plug was failed because of eh upward seepage forces that developed in the soil plug due to excess pore water pressure produced in the bottom of the soil plug during the seaquake, The compressive capacity of ar open-ended pile in a simulated sea depth of less than 220 m was reduced only by about 10% and the soil plug resistance was degraded by less than 5%.s than 5%.

IPM bridge was developed to revise the problems of IAB bridge by Nam et al, (2016). This research conducted the p-y analysis to examine the parameter traits among the protruded length (H), penetrated length (L) of pile bent and soil conditions. From the results, the maximum bending moment happened in the top segment of pile bent, because it is integrated to the upper structure. Also, the maximum shear force was shown in the boundary of the sand and weathered soil zones according to the analysis soil conditions. The maximum member force and unbraced length is converged when the ratio (L/H) of protruded length (H) and penetrated length (L) is 1.0. The larger material force is happened, if the pile bent is penetrated shallowly compared to the protruded length. The definite inflection points were shown in the horizontal displacement curve from the p-y analysis, also the smaller penetrated length made the curve grade slower.
The construction of combined pile-raft foundations is considered as the main option in designing foundations in high-rise buildings, especially in soils close to the ground surface which do not have sufficient bearing capacity to withstand building loads. This paper deals with the geotechnical report of the Northern Fereshteh area of Tabriz, Iran, and compares the characteristics of the single pile foundation with the two foundations of pile group and geogrid. Besides, we investigate the effects of five principal parameters including pile diameter and length, the number of geogrid layers, the depth of groundwater level, and pore water pressure on vertical consolidation settlement and pore water pressure changes over a year. This study assessed the mechanism of the failure of the soil under the foundation using numerical analysis as well. Numerical analysis was performed using the two-dimensional finite element PLAXIS software. The results of fifty-four models indicate that the diameter of the pile tip, either as a pile group or as a single pile, did not have a significant effect on the reduction of the consolidation settlement in the soil in the Northern Fereshteh Street region. The optimum length for the pile in the Northern Fereshteh area is 12 meters, which is economically feasible. In addition, the construction of four-layered ten-meter-long geogrids at intervals of 1 meter beneath the deep foundation had a significant preventive impact on the consolidation settlement in clayey soils.
This paper provides a practical stochastic method by which the maximum equilibrium scour depth around a vertical pile exposed to random waves plus a current on mild slopes can be derived. The approach is based on assuming the waves to be a stationary narrow-band random process, adopting the Battjes and Groenendijk (2000) wave height distribution for mild slopes including the effect of breaking waves, and using the empirical formulas for the scour depth on the horizontal seabed by Sumer and Fredsøe (2002). The present approach is valid for wave-dominant flow conditions. Results for random waves alone and random wave plus currents have been presented and discussed by varying the seabed slope and water depth. An approximate method is also proposed, and comparisons are made with the present stochastic method. For random waves alone it appears that the approximate method can replace the stochastic method, whereas the stochastic method is required for random waves plus currents. Tentative approaches to related random wave-induced scour cases on mild slopes are also suggested.
In this study, a pile-guide mooring system (PGMS) was designed for an offshore liquefied natural gas bunkering terminal (LNG-BT), which is an essential infrastructure for large LNG-fuelled ships. The PGMS consisted of guide piles to restrict five motions of the floater, except for heave, as well as a seabed truss structure to support the guide piles and foundation piles to fix the system to the seabed. Singapore port was considered for a case study because it is a highly probable ports for LNG bunkering projects. The wave height, current speed, and wind speed in Singapore port were investigated to calculate the environmental loads acting on the hull and PGMS. A load and resistance factor approach was used for the structural design, and a finite element analysis was performed for design verification. The steel usage of the PGMS was analyzed and compared with the material usage of a gravity-based structure under similar LNG capacity and water depth criteria. This paper also describes the water depth limit and wave conditions of the PGMS based on estimation of the initial investment and the present value profit difference. It suggests a suitable LNG-BT support system for various design conditions.
