This study investigated the relationship of clothing microclimate and physiological responses in order to examine the layering effects on the clothing microclimate as an index to predict clothing thermal insulation ($I_{cl}$). Experiments were conducted in a $15^{\circ}C$ environment on six physically active males. Increased clothing layers resulted in higher mean temperature inside the clothing ($\bar{T}_{cl}$) and $I_{cl}$. The $I_{cl}$ had a high correlation with: $\bar{T}_{cl}$ (r = 0.556), the difference between the innermost surface temperature and the outermost surface temperature at the chest (DST) (r = 0.549) and the temperature inside clothing at the abdomen (r = 0.478). $\bar{T}_{cl}$ had the highest correlation with the temperature inside clothing at the abdomen (r = 0.889). $\bar{T}_{cl}$ also had the highest correlation with $\bar{T}_{sk}$ (r = 0.860). The results showed that the relationship between $I_{cl}$ and $\bar{T}_{cl}$ was linear (p < .01). Thermal comfort had a negative correlation with $\bar{T}_{cl-thigh}$ (r=-0.411) and $\bar{T}_{cl}$ (r = -0.323) (p < .01.)
To develop a new starter culture for fermented milk, Streptococcus macedonicus LC743 was isolated from raw milk and its physiological characteristics were investigated. S. macedonicus LC743 showed good immunomodulating activity compared to the index LAB starters tested. The optimum growth temperature of S. macedonicus LC743 was $40^{\circ}C$, and it took 18 h to reach pH 4.34 under these conditions. S. macedonicus LC743 showed higher sensitivity to novobiocin in a comparison of 15 different antibiotics and showed the highest resistance to gentamycin. It also showed higher activities of leucine arylamidase and acid phosphatase. Moreover, it was comparatively tolerant to bile juice and acid and displayed high resistance to Escherichia coli, Salmonella Typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus with rates of 80.0%, 68.42%, and 81.54% respectively. These results demonstrate that S. macedonicus LC743 could be an excellent starter culture for fermented milk with a high level of immunomodulating activity.

Environmental heat stress by global warming has a severe effect on the productivity of livestock and, in particular, on that of dairy cattle. Heat stress during high temperature environment directly and indirectly affects milk yield, milk quality and physiological response. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of heat stress on productivity and physiological responses of livestock. Temperature-humidity data logger were established inside the feedlot for measuring real time changes in the feedlot environment. Milk was collected every day for analysing the productivity of dairy cattle. Blood sample and respiration of dairy cattle were collected once in a week for investigating the physiological response factors. Blood component concentration associated with lipolysis metabolism and milk production showed change during tropical night period. Temperature humidity index (THI) of a specific location inside the feedlot showed continuously high levels.
Germination properties, leachate electrical conductivity (EC), and inorganic compound leaching were analyzed to ascertain the storage ability and change of physiological characteristics during storage of Hippophae rhamnoides seeds. Seeds were placed in an incubator at 25℃ and sown in different soil media (sand, vermiculite and horticultural substrate) after being stored for 6, 18 and 30 months at 2℃. All germination properties decreased in accordance to an increase of the seed storage period. Compared with the seed storage for 18 months, germination percentage (GP), germination performance index (GPI), and germination value (GV) of seeds stored for 30 months decreased by more than 50%. When the seeds were sown in different soil media in a greenhouse, those germination properties were similar to the seeds germinated in an incubator, and mean germination time, GPI and GV had a significant difference except GP among soil media. EC and inorganic ion concentration had a strong positive correlation with the seed storage period, but the ratios of inorganic ions from stored seeds revealed that K+/Mg2+ and Na+/Mg2+ were inversely correlated with the storage period.
Objectives The aim of this study was to reveal the difference of body shape, personality, physiological characteristics between migrant Vietnam and Daejeon women using propensity matching. Methods The number of 274 Vietnamese migrant women and Daejeon city women participate in this study. We surveyed Sasang Constitution (SC) expressive factor, such Body Mass Index (BMI) using Korea Sasang Constitutional Diagnostic Questionnaire (KS-15). A Chi-square test and a T-test were used. Significant p was .05. Results The height, weight and BMI of Daejeon women was bigger than those of Vietnam(p<.001). There was significant difference in personality characteristics in 'broad mind-narrow mind'(p<.001), 'Active-Passive'(p<.001), 'Masculine-Feminine'(p=.002). There was significant differentce in physio-pathological symptom in 'digestion'(p<.001), 'urine time'(p<.001), 'feeling cold/heat'(p=.006). There was significant differentce in distribution of SC between Vietnam and Daejeon women(p=.025). Conclusions This study reveals that there is differentce in body shape, personality, physiological characteristics between Vietnam and Daejeon women. These factors might influence on SC distribution between Vietnam and Dajeon women
A whole-body compression garment (WBCG) is mainly used for cosmetic purpose in Korea. Another case for wearing the WBCG would be while exercising because it allows the body to move easily. But physiological effects of wearing WBCG to the body have not been known much. To investigate whether wearing WBCG would be helpful for conducting exercises, we measured physiological criteria, which could be influenced by the compression, such as cardiovascular and pulmonary function. Twelve female college students participated in this experiment. Increase of blood pressure was monitored in all of the participants when they wore a WBCG just for 10 minutes. Pulmonary function that requires skeletal muscle contraction was decreased by wearing a WBCG. Blood pressure measured after conducting exercise became even lower when wearing a WBCG than non-wearing. Interestingly, heart pulse remained lower when wearing a WBCG than non-wearing during the whole relaxing period after the exercise. Electrocardiogram (ECG) analyses showed that such lower heart rate largely depended on extension of QT time. For that reason, physiological efficiency index (PEI) was higher for wearing WBCG. These results indicate wearing WBCG could enhance exercise efficiency by lowering heart pulse.
Objective: This study aims to explore ways to empirically analyze and manage childcare teachers' job stress based on their relationship with stress-related physiological indicators measured by a fitness tracker. Methods: The study participants were 27 childcare teachers in Gyeonggi-do and wore Garmin's wearable fitness tracker Vivosmart 4 for 15 days for three months. The collected information was analyzed for mean, SD, ANOVA, and correlation using JAMOVI 2.00. Results: First, among the daily changes of physiological indicators measured by a fitness tracker, the data collected on Mondays were significant. On Mondays, the stress index was high, the duration of the rest period was short, and the sleep time was short. The stress of childcare teachers showed a significant negative relationship with the body battery which was calculated by considering the duration of the rest period, heart rate variability, stress, and activity level. Also, the duration of deep sleep was positively correlated with a low degree of stress. There was a significant relationship between the childcare teachers' psychological indicators and the biomarkers measured by fitness trackers. Conclusion/Implications: Stress research using a fitness tracker is big data, and in-depth analysis is possible. Fitness trackers can collect and utilize repeated measurement data for each individual childcare teacher.

Ozone tolerance of tree species was determined by standard index of physiological damages and biochemical defense responses under short-term ozone exposure. At the end of 150ppb $O_3$ fumigation, photosynthetic characteristics and antioxidative enzyme activities were analyzed in the leaves of five species(Koelreuteria paniculata, Firmiana simplex, Styrax japonica, Fraxinus rhynchophylla, Viburnum sargentii). Injury index was determined by the effect of ozone on photosynthetic parameters and malondialdehyde(MDA) content, and tolerance index was calculated using the rate of increase in superoxide dismutase(SOD), ascorbate-peroxidase(APX), glutathione reductase(GR) and catalase(CAT) activities. Apparent quantum yield(AQY), carboxylation efficiency(Ce) and photo-respiration rate(PR) decreased in the leaves of five species with increasing ozone exposure time. These parameters were considered as an appropriate indicator for stress evaluation. Antioxidative enzyme activities showed various results depending on the tree species, exposure time, and enzyme types. SOD activity of K. paniculata increased with ozone exposure time, and that of F. rhynchophylla increased only after 6 hours of ozone exposure. CAT activity of $O_3$-exposed F. simplex was lower than the control. Based on standard index, ozone tolerance ability of five species was determined as two tolerant species(F. rhynchophylla > K. paniculata) and three sensitive species(S. japonica > F. simplex > V. sargentii).
This paper is the study of the reflectance of light from biological tissue for red and Infrared wavelengths and relates the acquired reflectance data to expected physiological changes within the skin and muscle layers associated with heat and exercise. The instrument was disigned to collect data from the calf muscle in human subjects with probe located at the surface of skin. Rapid data acquisition method allowed monitoring of rapid changes in reflecttance due to a stimulus. This study demonstrates that changes in O2 saturation and blood fractional volume expected within the dermis and muscle layers were asserted by examining the slopes of the plotted index for heat and exercise. The results presented in thls study support the claim that reflectance can separately discriminate between changes of blood volume and oxygenation in muscle and in skin. The data demonstrate the ability to measure consistent changes In tissue optical properties during exercise and heat.

This study investigated the effects of certain specific wavelengths of lighting on the autonomic nervous system (ANS) using the heart rate variability (HRV) as an index. Six subjects with normal color vision participated n this study between 15:00 and 17:00 hr to neutralize any visual differences arising from circadian rhythm. The environmental conditions of the laboratory were maintained in complete darkness and the temperature was equilibrated at 24$\Box$ with a relative humidity of 60%. Subjects were only subjected to light stimulation when the pupil of dyes attained a minimum size of 2 mm by projecting illumination equalized with the same spectral radiance of 500-700 nm with 50-nm internal radiance. HRV was calculated from electrocardiogram (ECG) with systematic respiratory control at 0.35 Hz. The results suggest that illumination with certain wavelengths may induce ANS activation.
