  • Purpose: This study was designed to measure the effects of weight, abdominal girth, body fat, abdominal fat and cholesterol levels in combination with electrical stimulation, ultrasound and aerobic exercise on obesity and local lipolysis. Methods: Subjects were 30 obese adults who volunteered to take part in the experiment and had no physical diseases. They were randomly divided into three groups: (1) an aerobic exercise group (n=10), (2) an electrical stimulation group with aerobic exercise (n=10), and (3) an ultrasound stimulation group with aerobic exercise (n=10). Each experimental group went through 8 weeks of training. Results: All measured items including weight, girth of the abdomen, body fat, and cholesterol levels showed significant differences among groups. All three groups showed decreases for all items. The electrical stimulation + aerobic exercise group (group II) showed greater effects than the aerobic exercise group (group I) and the ultrasound stimulation group with aerobic exercise (group III). Conclusion: Electrical stimulation + aerobic exercise and ultrasound stimulation + aerobic exercise cause decreases in weight, girth of the abdomen, body fat and cholesterol level compared to aerobic exercise alone. These methods can be considered to be effective adjuvants to aerobic exercise in obese adults.

  • Objective: This study aims to compare the range of motion of the joints by applying the contraction and relaxation techniques used in manual therapy as electrical stimulation treatment. Based on this, we would like to propose the possibility of using motor nerve electrical stimulation therapy for musculoskeletal physical therapy. Design: Single-arm interventional study Methods: Active and passive straight leg raising tests were performed on 20 healthy men and women in their 20s to measure the angle of hip joint flexion. Then, the electrical stimulation time was set to 10 seconds and 5 seconds of rest, and motor nerve electrical stimulation of 1 Hz was applied with the maximum strength that could withstand the hamstring muscles for 10 minutes. After electrical stimulation, straight leg raising tests again to confirm the range of motion of the hip joint flexion. Results: As a result of this study, it was confirmed that the joint range of motion was significantly improved for both active and passive straight leg raising tests after application of motor nerve electrical stimulation(p<.05). Conclusions: With a strong electrical stimulation treatment of 1 Hz, the effect similar to the contraction and relaxation technique used in manual therapy was confirmed through the joint range of motion. In the future, motor nerve electrical stimulation therapy can be used for musculoskeletal physical therapy to provide a new approach for patients with reduced pain and joint range of motion due to muscle tension.

  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of silver spike point (SSP) low frequency electrical stimulation on glomerular filtration rate (GFR), specifically, such as diuretic action in 24 hour urine and in plasma analysis from normal volunteer. The current of 1 Hz continue type (CT) of SSP low frequency electrical stimulation significantly decreased in plasma creatine from normal volunteer. However, the urine creatinine clearance (Ccr) was significantly increased by SSP low frequency electrical stimulation in normal volunteer. These results suggest that the SSP low frequency electrical stimulation, especially current of 1 Hz continue type, significantly regulates urine creatinine clearance and glomerular filtration rate from normal volunteer. Therefore, the SSP low frequency electrical stimulation is a good regulator through a diuretic action of hypertension.

  • In this study, we explored the possibility of using sympathetic skin response (SSR), a type of electrodermal activity (EDA), as a method of evaluating a subject's responsiveness to physical or psychological stimulation. To provide physical and psychological stimulation, walking on an acupressure plate and a roller coaster virtual reality experience wearing an HMD (head mounted display) were used. Walking on an acupressure plate significantly increased the SSR signal compared to walking on the bare floor. Additionally, it was observed that the SSR response significantly increased while the subject was wearing an HMD and experiencing a roller coaster compared to the resting state of sitting on a chair. The SSR response to physical or psychological stimulation increased in all subjects, but the degree of reactivity differed. These experimental results suggested that sympathetic skin response (SSR) is a useful tool as a biosignal that can be used to evaluate the human body's responsiveness to physical stimulation or psychological stimulation using virtual reality.

  • Functional Electrical Stimulation is the clinical application of a small electric current to the intact nerves of the body, in order to trigger a muscle contraction. This contraction is then incorporated into a functional activity, for example walling. A clear distinction needs to be made between therapeutic stimulation and functional stimulation. The former being of an exercise orientation, where one would relax while the stimulation works on its own. Functional electrical stimulation on the other hand, incorporates this elicited muscle movement into an everyday activity, like standing, walking, reaching out etc. But recently, New method used to FES which updated electrode insult in muscle and small nerve branch. A lot of new research build up many countries such as England, USA, Japan, Spain, Canada. So I had been write this paper for introduce new FES method, and I hope to more enhanced motivation of therapist for the functional electric stimulation.

  • Purpose : This study aims to examine the influences of galvanic vestibular stimulation on autonomic reaction of normal adults. Methods : Participants in this research totaled 28 (14 men and 14 women). Galvanic vestibular stimulation was conducted with a binaural electrode configuration for 60 sec. Galvanic vestibular stimulation measurements were conducted with the subjects in a prone position. Measured items included skin conductance, blood flow, pulse rate, and respiratory rate. Measurements were repeated for a total of five times, before application, during application, after application, 5 minutes after application and 10 minutes after application. Results : Skin conductance reaction showed statistically significant differences in changes depending on time after galvanic vestibular stimulation and there were statistically differences in changes of blood flow, pulse rate and respiratory rate after galvanic vestibular stimulation. Conclusion : Blood flow, pulse rate and respiratory rate of autonomic reactions were not influenced by galvanic vestibular stimulation, but skin conductance reaction was influenced by it and it was found that it was reduced during and after stimulation rather than before stimulation. Consequently, it was considered that galvanic vestibular stimulation affected the autonomic reaction.
