  • The construction companies are facing potential EHS(Environment, Health & Safety) of major accidents to cause casualties or a financial loss and increasing social responsibility. So, they have to voluntarily accomplish the EHS management system rather than passively with regard to EHS regulation. In this study, the integrated EHS management system is developed based on cloud computing, and construction companies are to materialize self-regulation EHS process of construction workplace and to standardize the total EHS business process using the developed system. The proposed system also provides risk analysis, education/control and continuous improvement for EHS tasks and users can easily access the system on the web at a low price through cloud computing service. Eventually, the integrated system contributes to the managerial improvement by minimizing economic and physical loss caused by construction accidents.

  • This paper proposes a adaptive medium-access control(MAC) protocol designed for low-power wireless multi-hop sensor networks which is used for connecting physical world and cyber computing space. Wireless multi-hop sensor networks use battery-operated computing and sensing device. We expect sensor networks to be deployed in an ad hoc fashion, with nodes remaining inactive for long time, but becoming suddenly active when specific event is detected. These characteristics of multi-hop sensor networks and applications motivate a MAC that is different from traditional wireless MACs about power conservation scheme, such as IEEE 802.11. Proposed MAC uses a few techniques to reduce energy consumption. Result show that proposed MAC obtains more energy savings.

  • Cloud computing provides computation, software, data access, and storage services that do not require end-user knowledge of the physical location and configuration of the system that delivers the services. Cloud computing providers have setup several data centers at different geographical locations over the Internet in order to optimally serve needs of their customers around the world. One of the fundamental challenges in geographically distributed clouds is to provide efficient algorithms for supporting inter-cloud data management and dissemination. In this paper, we propose a group quorum system (GQS)-based dissemination for improving the interoperability of inter-cloud in time-critical event dissemination service, such as computing policy updating, message sharing, event notification and so forth. The proposed GQS-based method organizes these distributed clouds into a group quorum ring overlay to support a constant event dissemination latency. Our numerical results show that the GQS-based method improves the efficiency as compared with Chord-based and Plume methods.

  • In the upcoming post-app era, real-time, intelligent and immersive services such as autonomous vehicles, virtual secretaries, virtual reality, and augmented reality are expected to dominate. However, there is a growing demand for new networking and computing infrastructure capabilities because existing physical connection-oriented networks and centralized cloud-based service environments have inherent limitations to effectively accommodate these services. To this end, research on intelligent edge network computing technology is underway to analyze the contextual situation of human and things and to configure the service environment on the network edge so that the application services can be performed optimally. In this article, we describe the technology issues for edge network intelligence and introduce related research trends.

  • Human behavior and emotions are influenced by experiences accumulated through the past and present. To realize artificial intelligence technology that understands and sympathizes with humans, cognitive computing technology that automatically analyzes human behaviors, habits, and emotions associated with specific situations and uses past data and domain knowledge is required. In this study, we examine the latest research trends on human-understanding cognitive computing technology that recognizes human behavior and emotions, stores them as experience data, and provides services by analyzing the stored data. Further, we introduce high-quality data collection research in real-life and services for improving physical and mental health. We also review key issues essential for developing these technologies.

  • Quantum machine learning (QML) is an area of quantum computing that leverages its principles to develop machine learning algorithms and techniques. QML is aimed at combining traditional machine learning with the capabilities of quantum computing to devise approaches for problem solving and (big) data processing. Nevertheless, QML is in its early stage of the research and development. Thus, more theoretical studies are needed to understand whether a significant quantum speedup can be achieved compared with classical machine learning. If this is the case, the underlying physical principles may be explained. First, fundamental concepts and elements of QML should be established. We describe the inception and development of QML, highlighting essential quantum computing algorithms that are integral to QML. The advent of the noisy intermediate-scale quantum era and Google's demonstration of quantum supremacy are then addressed. Finally, we briefly discuss research prospects for QML.

  • Recent advances in computer technology have made it possible to solve numerous challenges but require faster hardware development. However, the size of the classical computer has reached its physical limit, and researchers' interest in quantum computers is growing, and it is being used in various engineering fields. However, research using quantum computing in structural engineering is very insufficient. Therefore, in this paper, the characteristics of qubits, the minimum unit of quantum information processing, were grafted with the crow search algorithm to propose QCSA (quantum crow search algorithm) and compare the convergence performance according to parameter changes. In addition, by performing the optimal design of the example truss structure, it was confirmed that quantum computing can be used in the architectural field.
