Microwave를 이용한 칫솔 살균효과 (Toothbrush sterilizing effects of using microwave)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze the sterilizing effects of toothbrushes by administering bacteria into toothbrushes and reproducing the antibacterial effects using a microwave oven. Methods : The heads of four-row mid-strength toothbrushes were cut, put in a bacterial solution ($3{\times}10^9cells/ml$) for vortexing, and sterilized with microwaves for 0, 30, and 60 seconds. They were then moved into four tubes containing DW 10 ml and suspended in a vortex mixer for two minutes to separate bacteria from them. DW 9ml was added by 1ml of bacteria for dilution of $10{\sim}10^6$ times. It was then administered to the BHI agar plate by 0.1ml and cultured at $37^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. Total number of bacteria adhered to a toothbrush was obtained by multiplying the number of colonies by the dilution factor. The experiment was done in the first, second, and third step, being repeated in a normal temperature drier ($23^{\circ}C$) after 5, 9 and 24 hours. Results : The results of the experiment revealed that the sterilizing effects were 95% or over. When toothbrushes were sterilized for 60 seconds, the number of colonies is about 11 after drying for 5 hours, 7 after drying for 9 hours and 2 after drying for 24 hours. The sterilizing effects reached 98% when the bacteria-administered toothbrush was sterilized for 1 minute after drying for 24 hours. Conclusions : The results demonstrated that toothbrush sterilizing by using microwave is a suitable way to prevent cross-contamination of toothbrushes by oral bacterial infection and thus easy to use at home. However, this study suggests that toothbrush sterilizing by using microwave should be limited within two times a week because the physical properties of toothbrush might be changed.

  • Chitosan is a polysaccharide with cationic amino groups in its structure and has useful properties as functional materials. Various end-use developments of chitosan are in progress. When the cotton fabric is pretreated with chitosan, the hand property of cotton fabric may be improved expecially for the summer apparel. In this study, as a cross-linking agent to introduce chitosan into cotton, BTCA(butane-1,2,3,4-tetracarboxylic acid) or CA(citric acid) was added in order to prevent detachment of chitosan by the cross-linking. During the cross-linking procedure, via the padding-drying-heat setting, amino groups of chitosan and hydroxyl groups of cotton, carboxyl groups of BTCA/CA are cross-linked by forming anhydrous cyclic rings. Since BTCA has four carboxyl groups, cross-linking by thermal treatment is easy, leading to the trials in wrinkle-recovery treatment of cotton fabrics. However, the high price of the BTCA reagent has been a shortcoming in the actual application for industrial use. Therefore, in this study, we tried the application of CA having three carboxyl groups, which is relatively low priced, as the substituting cross-linking agent. The hand of the treated fabrics were evaluated by measuring physical properties. In addition, based on the physical properties, three-dimensional images were introduced by using 3D CAD systems and results were compared.

건식제련용 동 함유 슬러지 펠렛 제조 및 물리적 특성평가 (Analyses of Physical Properties of Copper-contained Sludge Pelletized for Applied Pyro-metallurgical Process)

  • 인쇄회로기판(PCB) 제조 공정 중 발생된 슬러지로부터 구리성분을 건식제련방법으로 회수하기 위해서 슬러지를 원료로 한 펠렛화 연구를 진행하였다. 슬러지 펠렛화를 위해 건조, 해쇄, 입도분급의 전처리 실시하였고, 혼합 및 압축장치를 포함한 펠렛화 기기를 개발하였다. 제조된 펠렛의 물리적 특성평가는, 슬러지 입도, 펠렛화 압축 횟수를 변화시키면서 비파괴 낙하횟수, 압축강도를 측정하였다. #140 mesh over의 입자를 제거한 경우, 펠렛의 특성은 0.6 MPa, 9.3회로 향상되었으며, 여기에 #325 under 입자를 한번 더 제거한 경우 0.82 MPa, 19.0회로 더욱 더 향상되었다. 이는 조립자의 경우, 충진밀도를 감소시키고, 미립자의 경우 성형에 요구되는 점결제의 투입량을 증가시키기 때문에 나타난 결과로 판단된다.

  • The factors influencing concrete deterioration in marine environment can be generally divided into the physical and chemical action. The physical attack due to drying and wetting would increase the internal stress of concrete. The chemical attack resulting from the diffusion of ions$(i,e,\;Cl^-,SO_4^{2-},Mg^+)$ from seawater through the pores in concrete. The objective of this study is to evaluate corrosion characteristics of steel when using the various concrete materials under marine exposure environment. After 3 years of exposure, concrete specimen incorporating $40\%$ blast-furnace slag as replacement for type I cement with low w/c ratio of 0.42 and using the inhibitor shows excellent performance.

  • Particle - bound water changes the physical and chemical properties of aerosol particles, such as size and light scattering properties. Consequently, it is necessary to remove water vapor from ambient aerosols before aerosol particles are sized and counted. Silicon gel diffusion dryer is commonly employed for this purpose.   • Litho printing ink vehicles based on rosin modified phenolic are faster drying, have better durability, are harder and glosser and have greater resistance to water than ones based on ester gums. Ink-Water balance and rheological properties are important in litho printing process. These physical properties is concerned with molecular weight of Resin to use vehicle. So this paper was studied about the effects of changing molecular weight of Rosin modified phenolic on surface tension, viscosity, pseudoplasticity and printablility of Litho Inks. The results were as follows. 1) The surface tension of model inks depended on the molecular weight of the resin : Dispersion componnent of ink increase but non dispersion component decrease as molecular weight of Resin increase. 2) Water pick-up of litho ink is more fast balance, using low molecular weight of Resin. 3) Viscosity, Yield value and Newtonian value of model inks increase as molecular weight of Resin increase. 4) The litho ink prepared with the modified phenolic of which molecular weight is about 20000 showed the highest printing density and gloss.

재생 미분말의 발생현황과 특성에 관한 기초적 연구 (The Fundamental Study on Generation and Properties of Recycled Concrete Powder)

  • This study is about the production and properties of waste concrete powder that recycling aggregate is crushed to the waste concrete. We researched the generation and the disposal of recycled concrete powder. It is chemica] and physical features that is compared and analysis according to its production system and repeated crushing of time. Recycled concrete powder is more generated wet process than drying process. In addition, the more it is repeated crushing of time, the more recycled concrete powder is generated. Recycled concrete powder is discovered that wet process is larger of the specific area, lower density and particle size.

양모 방축가공에 따른 물리적 성질 변화 (A Study on Physical Properties of Wool with Shrink-resist treatment and Felting)

  • In this study, the effect of shrink-resist treatment agent on the wool finishing, specifically anti-felting of wool product was studied. We aimed at providing preliminary data leading to the diversification of high-value added fashionable wool product. Two type of wool fabrics, dense and sheer, were employed. The fabric specimens were treated with solutions of shrink-resist treatment agent with wet pick-up rate 110%, 130%, and 150%, respectively, by using a padding mangle. The solution treated fabric specimens were then dried at room temperature first, at $90^{\circ}C$ for 15 minutes in a drying oven, and finally cured at $130^{\circ}C$ for 3 minutes. Cured wool fabric specimens were then subjected to a felting process. The physical and mechanical properties, including shrinkage rate along warp/filling direction, thickness at specified measurement pressure, drape stiffness, and air-permeability, were analyzed. After felting process, the shrinkage rates of wool fabric specimens, treated with shrink-resist treatment agent, were lower than those of control wool fabric specimens. The stiffness values of wool fabric specimens measured by using Flexometer were increased.

방전 플라즈마 소결법으로 제작한 Mo-Cu 합금의 열적, 전기적 특성 (A Study on the Thermal and Electrical Properties of Fabricated Mo-Cu Alloy by Spark Plasma Sintering Method)

  • Mo-Cu alloys have been widely used for heat sink materials, vacuum technology, automobile and many other applications due to their excellent physical and electronic properties. Especially, Mo-Cu composites with 5~20 wt% copper are widely used for the heavy duty service contacts due to their excellent properties like low coefficient of thermal expansion, wear resistance, high temperature strength and prominent electrical and thermal conductivity. In most of the applications, high dense Mo-Cu materials with homogeneous microstructure are required for high performance, which has led in turn to attempts to prepare ultra-fine and well-dispersed Mo-Cu powders in different ways, such as spray drying and reduction process, electroless plating technique, mechanical alloying process and gelatification-reduction process. However, most of these methods were accomplished at high temperature (typically degree), resulting in undesirable growth of large Cu phases; furthermore, these methods usually require complicated experimental facilities and procedure. In this study, Mo-Cu alloying were prepared by planetary ball milling (PBM) and spark plasma sintering (SPS) and the effect of Cu with contents of 5~20 wt% on the microstructure and properties of Mo-Cu alloy has been investigated.

고형분 70% 아크릴수지 합성과 아크릴-우레탄 도료의 도막물성 비교 연구 (Syntheses of 70% Solids Acrylic Resin and Comparative Study in Physical Properties as Acrylic Urethane Resin Coatings)

  • 고형분 70% 아크릴수지를 합성하기 위해 n-butyl methacrylate(BMA), methyl methacrylate(MMA), 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate(2-HEMA) 및 acetoacetoxyethyl acrylate(AAEA)와 caprolactone acrylate(CLA)를 사용하여 공중합체의 유리전이온도(Tg)를 50 ℃로 조정하여 합성하였으며, 합성한 아크릴수지의 점도와 분자량은 수산기가(OH values)의 증가에 따라 증가되었다. 높은 고형분의 아크릴수지 합성에 적합한 반응개시제는 di-tert-amyl peroxide 이었으며, 최적의 합성조건은 반응 개시제 5 wt%, 연쇄이동제 4 wt%, 반응온도 140 ℃에서 적하시간은 4시간이었다. 합성수지의 구조는 FT-IR과 1H-NMR spectroscopy로 확인하였고, 수평균 분자량은 1900~2600, 분자량 분포도 1.4~2.1을 얻었다. 합성한 아크릴수지와 무황변성 폴리이소시아네이트인 hexamethylene diisocyanate trimer(Desmodur N-3300)의 NCO/OH 당량비를 1.2/1.0으로 조절하여 아크릴-우레탄 투명도료를 제조하였다. 도료의 물리적 특성으로 점도, 부착성, 건조시간, 가사시간, 연필경도 및 광택을 비교 검토한 결과 부착성, 건조시간, 가사시간, 연필경도 및 광택이 양호한 결과를 나타내었고, 특히 CLA를 10 % 도입한 도료는 부착성이 우수하고 낮은 점도와 높은 경도를 나타내었다.
