  • The photosensitive properties and carrier transport in the organic photoconductor with the carrier transport layers(CTL) of polymer matrix doped with two carrier transport materials above carrier generation layer(CGL) containing oxotitanium phthalocyanine (TiOPc) were investigated. The CGL of TiOPc dispersed in poly(vinylbutyral) was formed as thickness of 0.1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$and the carrier transport layer was prepared by coating polycarbonate and polyester doped with oxadiazoly(OXD), polyvinylcarbazole (PVK), trinitro fluorenone(TNF) as thickness of 10~15${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, respectively. We have measured half decay exposure, sensitivity and xerographic gain from the photo-induced discharge curve(PIDC). In this work, it was found that the characteristics of carrier transport were mainly caused by the ionization potential difference of constitutive materials in molecularly doped polymer.

  • Novel molecular glassy POSS-based material having carbazole moiety as a photo- and electroactive group was synthesized, and its thermal, morphological, electrochemical, and optical properties were investigated. POSS having carbazole (POSS-Cz) was found to form easily amorphous glassy film by cooling the melt sample or by spin coasting onto glass substrate. POSS-Cz showed monomeric emission even in solid film, which suggests that carbazole moiety can be isolated even in solid state.

  • Photoalignment materials of PGMAcr, poly[3-(acryloyloxy)-2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate] using an acrylate unit photopolymerized by a photo-initiator and PGMA4Ch, poly[3- (4-ehalconyloxy)-2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate] using photodimerization by the chalcone group were synthesized. Also, the liquid crystal (LC) alignment capabilities on the photopolymer layers were studied. A good LC alignment with UV exposure on the PGMAcr surface can be obtained. However, LC alignment defects were observed on the PGMA4Ch surface. The LC alignment capability of the PGMAcr surface by the photoinitiator was better than that of the PGMA4Ch surface by the chalcone group which is a photosensitive moiety.

  • Photopolymer films containing fluorescent anthracene polymer, polymethyleneanthracene (PMAn), were prepared with different concentrations of PMAn for holographic recording useful for security documents. The fluorescent photopolymer film showed enhanced fluorescent intensity due to the micro-separation which arose from grating formation and diffusion during photopolymerization. Experimental values of diffraction efficiency were well matched to the simulated values for photopolymers having different PMAn concentrations. Holography patterning was carried out using the fluorescent photopolymer under a photo-mask. A grating was confirmed using microscope techniques in the recorded area under the pattern. Importantly the recorded area showed enhanced fluorescence compared to the unrecorded part, allowing fluorescence patterns at micro scale along with the submicron grating pattern. The fluorescence pattern recorded on the photopolymer film provides additional readability of holographic reading and thus is useful for secure recording and reading of information.

  • The process conditions during ultraviolet nanoimprint lithography (UV-NIL) process such as temperature, stamping pressure, UV irradiation, etc. are effective factors for successful imprinting of complex and fine patterns. In this study, the effects of aluminum mold on the thermal characteristics of UV-NIL process were investigated through imprinting experiments and numerical simulations. The temperature of polymer resin on mold was measured to study thermal characteristics during UV curing. From the experimental and numerical results, the importance of curing reaction control for UV-NIL process was discussed for deformation characteristics.

  • This study examined the optimum compositions of binder, photo-acid generator (PAG) and sensitizer for the cationic ring opening polymerization of 1,3-bis[2-(3-{7-oxabicyclo-[4.1.0]heptyl})]-tetramethyldisiloxane in the presence of polydimethylsiloxane with four epoxide moieties as a co-monomer. When diffractive efficiency (DE) values were compared quantitatively to analyze the effect of the binder on holographic photopolymerization, DE was affected by the viscosity of the binders and miscibility with the monomer mixture. Extremely low DE values were observed when the immiscible dimethyl silicone was used as a binder. Therefore, methylphenyl silicone, which is miscible with the monomer mixture, was used as the binder for further studies. The optimal conditions were a binder viscosity between 250 to 390 cP, and contents of the binder, PAG, and sensitizer were 75-125 wt%, > 6 wt% and 0.05 wt% to the total monomer mixture, respectively.

  • Novel compounds with rod and disc mesogens were synthesized and characterized. The molecular structures were confirmed by FT-IR, $^1H$-NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The optical properties of these molecules were investigated by UV-vis absorption spectroscopy and photo-luminescence spectroscopy. We found that they are a novel series of blue light-emitting molecules. The absorption spectra peaks of these compounds varied from 336 nm-341 nm, while the maximum emissions centered form 410 nm-450 nm in chloroform solution. However, unexpectedly we could not found their biaxiality and mesomorphic properties by POM, conoscopy and DSC method.

  • We investigated the dependence of the retardation dispersion on the polarization direction of ultraviolet (UV) light during the photopolymerization of self-organized smectic reactive mesogen (RM) molecules. RM retarder film that was photopolymerized with UV light linearly polarized parallel to the layer plane showed negative dispersion (ND) of retardation for a wide range of UV polymerization temperatures. On the other hand, film that was photopolymerized with unpolarized UV light showed negative dispersion in a narrow range of UV polymerization temperatures. With a certain UV polymerization temperature, the dispersion of retardation was converted from positive to negative, depending on the UV polarization.
