  • Recently, there are increasing need to make a synthetic assessment about oceanic data which is collected over the various scientific field, in addition to just gathering oceanic data. In this study, we made a basic map using satellite image, aerial photo, multi-beam data, geological stratum data etc. And as well we are producing comprehensive SVT(Scientific Visualization Toolkit) which can visualize various kinds of oceanic data. These oceanic data include both survey data such as tidal height, tide, current, wave, water temperature, salinity, oceanic weather data and numeric modelling results such as ocean hydrodynamic model, wave model, erosion/sediment model, thermal discharged coastal water model, ocean water quality model. In this process, we introduce GIS(Geographic Information System) concepts to reflect time and spatial characteristics of oceanic data.

  • Generally, most people use the photo management method which clusters lots of photos into each folders according to photo shooting time and date. However, since the number of photos to manage is getting more increasing, it takes much time and burdensome work. This paper describes PHOTOLAND, a system that visualizes hundreds of photos on a 2D grid space to help users manage their photos. It closely places similar photos in the grid based on temporal and spatial information. Most photograph management systems use a scrollable view based on a sequential grid layout that arranges the thumbnails of photos in some default order on the screen. Our system decreases drag and drop mouse interaction when they classify their photos into small groups comparing to the sequential grid layout. We conducted experiments to evaluate temporal coherence and space efficiency.

  • As the photo-voltaic (PV) industry grows, the floating PV has been suggested to resolve current environmental destruction and a lack of installation area. Currently, various floating PV systems have been developed, but there is a lack of studies on how the shape of the floating body and other compositions are affecting structural behavior. In this study, the behavior of the floating PV was investigated at the various length of mooring lines, stiffness of connecting hinges, and size of floating bodies. The shortest mooring lines with the distributed type floating PV showed the least force on the floating body and corresponding motion. A frictionless hinge is safer at the regular and low-height wave, while a stiff hinge is safer at irregular and high-height wave. In addition, due to the bi-axial distribution of the connecting hinge, 45° direction wave was found to be the most dangerous.

  • Hundreds of millions of new posts and information are being uploaded and propagated everyday on Online Social Networks(OSN) like Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram. This paper proposes and implements a GPS-location based SNS data mapping, analysis, and visualization system, called Smart SNS Map, which collects SNS data from Twitter and Instagram using hundreds of PlanetLab nodes distributed across the globe. Like no other previous systems, our system uniquely supports a variety of functions, including GPS-location based mapping of collected tweets and Instagram photos, keyword-based tweet or photo searching, real-time heat-map visualization of tweets and instagram photos, sentiment analysis, word cloud visualization, etc. Overall, a system like this, admittedly still in a prototype phase though, is expected to serve a role as a sort of social weather station sooner or later, which will help people understand what are happening around the SNS users, systems, society, and how they feel about them, as well as how they change over time and/or space.

  • This paper proposes 3D visualization systems for the real-time situation awareness and a state information of the aircraft. This system was embodied with OpenGL and the Google Earth of web base using situation data of the aircraft. The existing system has problem which speed decrease and visible restricted map because massive data of terrain and satellite photo. This system is supports the visualization tool which is economic and entire area for a real-time situation awareness with minimum flight information using Open-API of the Google Earth. Also provides a visible convenience to expansion-view using multiple location information. This research result could be used to system for the situation awareness of the aircraft from web environment.

  • Due to the distribution of digital camera, many work for photo management has been studied. However, most work use a sequential grid layout which arranges photos considering one criterion of digital photo. This interface makes users have lots of scrolling and concentrate ability when they manage their photos. In this paper, we propose a clustering method based on a temporal sequence considering their color similarity in detail. First we cluster photos using Cooper's event clustering method. Second, we makes more detailed clusters from each clustered photo set, which are clustered temporal clustering before, using maximal clique finding algorithm of interval graph. Finally, we arrange each detailed dusters on a user screen with their overlap keeping their temporal sequence. In order to evaluate our proposed system, we conducted on user studies based on a simple questionnaire.

  • Optical Line Patternator(OLP) has been applied to get a distribution of the spray at high ambient pressure. OLP is a combined technique of extinction measurement and image processing. The attenuated intensity of laser beam after traversing spray region was measured by using a photo-detector, and the line image of Mie-scattering was captured simultaneously in the path of each laser beam by using a CCD camera. The distribution of extinction coefficient in the spray is obtained by processing these data with the algebraic reconstruction technique. From the distribution of extinction coefficient, the surface distribution of spray can be reconstructed. OLP does not use laser sheet but use laser beam so that the noise effect of multiple scattering, caused by increasing number density of droplet in high pressure environment, is reduced drastically. OLP is expected as a suitable method which can investigate the characteristics of relatively large spray under the high pressure environment such as liquid rocket engine.

  • With the popularization of digital photography, people are now capturing and storing far more photos than ever before. However, the enormous number of photos often discourages the users to identify desired photos. In this paper, we present a novel method for fast and intuitive browsing through large collections of geo-referenced photographs. Given a set of photos, we construct a hierarchical structure of clusters such that each cluster includes a set of spatially adjacent photos and its sub-clusters divide the photo set disjointly. For each cluster, we pre-compute its convex hull and the corresponding polygon area. At run-time, this pre-computed data allows us to efficiently visualize only a fraction of the clusters that are inside the current view and have easily recognizable sizes with respect to the current zoom level. Each cluster is displayed as a single polygon representing its convex hull instead of every photo location included in the cluster. The users can quickly transfer from clusters to clusters by simply selecting any interesting clusters. Our system automatically pans and zooms the view until the currently selected cluster fits precisely into the view with a moderate size. Our user study demonstrates that these new visualization and interaction techniques can significantly improve the capability of navigating over large collections of geo-referenced photos.

  • Animation is completed in accordance with the original planning of visual direction in the process of post-production. Especially, a variety of visualization skills to meet the planning idea are directed in editing and compositing processes such as rendering and shading in the production of 3D animation. Therefore, the studies how to implement these visual effects have been conducted since the emergence of the animation. The rendering method which appears in the recent animations so often is the effect of 2D animation style although it is applied by 3D technique. 3D animation can be classified as two types including photo realistic and non-photo realistic renderings. The former is to render the images realistically while the latter is to highlight the formative effect with analogue style free from the realism of the photographs. Visual effect of 2D animation is non-realistic, that is, non-photo realistic rendering. The animations produced by this method have the depth of 3D animation expression in terms of space and animating, and can direct the viewer-friendly analogue style visuals, which are widely used as a post-production effect. Hence in this study, we selected a short animation, 'Paperman,' one of Disney's animations, produced by cartoon rendering method which belongs to the class of non-photo rendering technique in 3D graphics, as our subject. We analyzed their techniques and visual effects of the scenes expressed by cartoon rendering method so as to understand whether they meet the original direction idea with the composition work. In addition, we expect further developments of post-production methods, exceeding the limit of graphic expression in alignment with the trend that has become more various in the types and genres of non-photo rendering.
