  • The aim of this study is to examine the limits and problems of researchers that appear in the papers of applied qualitative research by phenomenological methods. Using phenomenological methods in the field of Pedagogy, pedagogical phenomenology is not to approach pedagogical issues that are closely related to human life through scientism or positivism, but to explain them in things themselves. The problem, however, is that cases misunderstood and distorted in the essential meaning of phenomenology are happening as domestic researchers are applying pure phenomenology(the philosophical phenomenology) to the field of phenomenology of practice(the pedagogical phenomenology). Especially, these researchers show some errors caused by lack of basic understanding about research logic and research techniques in qualitative research methodology. Thus if a researcher carry out a qualitative study by using phenomenological methods, she or he needs insights in analysing and interpreting the essence of the various phenomena appearing from the participants by comparing in with her or his own lives.

  • Creep phenomenon affects the stability and integrity of concrete structures. An inaccurate prediction of these strains may lead to the appearance of cracks and excessive deflections which may cause in some cases the demolition of structures. In fact, the measured values of these uncontrolled strains appear often to be clearly different and larger than the expected ones. Therefore, an accurate prediction of concrete deformations is a necessity. As a matter of fact, the codified descriptions of this phenomenon are unreliable and don't consider the effect of admixtures. The physical nature of creep is not well understood and almost all creep models are mainly of empirical nature. To overcome this issue, a study of the correlation between different parameters affecting concrete creep is performed and a new model for predicting creep of concrete is elaborated. This new model considers the effect of admixtures, specifically the silica fume, in predicting concrete creep and allows an accurate prediction of this phenomenon. The proposed model is based on the observation of physical behavior of creep phenomenon. It targets at expressing creep compliance in terms of structural and environmental parameters. In fact, the experimental observations show that creep curves follow two kinetic regimes leading to a model called Phenomenological Creep Model. By adequate regressions and substitutions, and according to this model, we can express creep compliance in terms of structural, environmental parameters and admixture types and percentage. The proposed new Phenomenological Creep Model Silica Fume (PCM19SF) calculates accurately creep of concrete by considering the effect of silica fume.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe nurses' experiences of accidents in patient safety. Methods: Data were collected from October 8, 2011 to January 31, 2012 through in-depth interviews with seven nurses who had worked on wards or in the ICU in a university hospital. Data were analyzed by applying Colaizzi's phenomenological methodology. Results: The following six categories were extracted: Fear of the patient's condition caused by the accident, Conflict in the accident report, Blame on others and circumstances, Feeling guilty and sorry as the patient's condition is improving, Being disappointed with the unfavorable atmosphere in dealing with the accident, After the accident, being sensitive in performing nursing duties and being faithful to the principles. Conclusion: The results indicate that the organizational culture in the hospital related to accidents in patient safety is still closed and punitive, and such an atmosphere causes nurses to feel seriously hurt, but through this experience nurses are likely to mature as nursing professionals. Programs on prevention of accidents in patient safety and a system to guard against these accidents should be established. Also the organizational safety culture should be improved.

  • This qualitative nursing research used a hermeneutic phenomenological approach to discover meaning in mid - aged women's experience of mastectomy. The ultimate aim of the inquiry was to discover the essence of mid-aged women's experience and promote understanding. The study was guided by Van Manen's method for doing research. The method of inquiry included. turning to phenomenon of interest ; inquiring and investigating experience as it was lived rather than as conceptualized ; reflecting and analyzing essential themes which characterize phenomenon : and describing phenomenon through art of writing and rewriting. Multiple strategies for data collecting were needed : in depth face-to-face interview ; analysis of women's writings ; artistic works : and analysis of examples of phenomenon in art, litera lure, and drama. Although the experience was different for all of the women interviewd, essential themes of experience emerged : Self-discovering of vicious disease, Divining punishment-unfortunate women, loss of self though the scar, a night-mare, change of life values and attitudes, rediscovering living alone, living through with fearing of death. Findings from artistic and creative inquiry further validated findings and meaning descovered. The study illuminated meaning and simultaneously validated the phenomenological research process. Essential themes for understanding women's experience, implications for education, research, and practice, direction and need for continuing inquiry were identified.

  • The purpose of this study was to understand barrier factors affecting nutrition education jobs and determining priorities according to frequency of occurrence of obstacles. Focus group interview (FGI) was conducted on 11 nutrition teachers, and the result are summarized by the phenomenological analysis method. The barriers of nutrition education consisted of three categories, seven themes, and 10 sub-themes. The three categories were divided into work burden, recognition of nutrition education, and limitations of the nutrition education environment. Recognition of nutrition education was further divided into internal recognition from nutrition teachers and individual and external recognition from students and staff. The results showed that the most frequent barrier experienced by nutrition teachers in the work burden category was heavy work loads of foodservice management, followed by irrational working environment. In addition, limitations of the nutrition education environment consisted of absence of standard curriculum and textbooks, inadequate education infrastructure, and inadequate class time. To improve this, it is necessary to reduce nutrition teacher's food service management and develop standard curriculum and educational materials for nutrition education.

  • This study explored the experiences of couples therapists' marital relationship during the couples therapist training using phenomenological research method. The research questions involved the marital relationship experiences and their meanings, and how their marital relationship experiences affect the development of couples therapists during couples therapist training. Five couples therapists identified their personal, relational, and professional growth experiences by half-structured in-depth interview. Giorgi analysis guidelines were used, and five major themes and 20 subthemes were derived. The essence of their marital relationship experiences was "to establish a marital relationship as partners for growth and healing, and provide resources to become a wounded healer." Five major themes included the motivation to become a couples therapist, the experiencing of personal growth, the experiencing of differentiated connection, the experiencing of professional growth, and resources for the development of couples therapist. Exploration of the meanings of marital relationship experiences during couples therapist training shows the reciprocal relationship among personal, relational, and professional growth experiences. The integration of these experiences leads to holistic development of couples therapists. Implications for practice and future research are also discussed.

  • Since last several decades, iconic memory has been accepted theoretically valid for its role of the first storage mechanism in visual memory process. However, there have been relatively less interests in iconic memory among researchers than their interests in visual short- and long-term memory. Such little interests seem to arise from a lack of detailed understandings of theories and methodologies about iconic memory and visual persistence. This study aimed to achieve the understandings by reviewing theories and empirical studies of iconic memory and visual persistence. The study further discussed future direction of iconic memory research according to the essential aspects of phenomenological and ecological criticisms against the validity of iconic memory.
