The welded specimens were made by butt welding of the 2 wires of 50mm length using the pulsed YAG laser. The laser welded wires were tested for investigating the shape memory effect and the ability of super elasticity. The fatigue properties of the welded wires were investigated using the rotary bending fatigue tester specially designed for wires. Moreover, the effect of defocusing distance during laser welding on the static and fatigue properties was Investigated. The shape memory effect and super elasticity of the laser welded wires were approximately identical with that of base metal at the test temperature below 353K. However, the welded wires were broken within elastic limit at the test temperature above 353k. Under the cyclic bending loading conditions, the welded wires could be useful only below the elastic limit, while the base metal had sufficient fatigue life even the stress induced M-phase region. The fatigue strength of the welded wires was about half of that of the base metal. The deterioration of the static and fatigue properties in the welded wires was proven to be from the large difference of the transformation behavior between the base metal and welded part that is caused by vaporization of Ni-content at the welded part during the welding process. The defocusing distance below 3mm acted more largely on lowering the strength of the welded wires than that of 6mm or 8mm.
${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ thin films on $Al_2O_3$ substrate were prepared by the oxidation of $Fe_3O_4$ thin films processed by PECVD(Plasma-Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition) technique. The phase transformation of ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ thin films was mainly controlled by the substrate temperature and oxidation process of $Fe_3O_4$ phase. $Fe_3O_4$ phase was obtained at the deposition temperature of $200{\sim}300^{\circ}C$. $Fe_3O_4$ phase could be transformed into ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ phase under controlled oxidation at $280{\sim}300^{\circ}C$. $Fe_3O_4$ and ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ obtained by oxidation of $Fe_3O_4$ phase had the same spinel structure and were coexisted. The oxidized ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ thin film on $Al_2O_3$ substrate showed a porous island structure.

In the solid rocket propellant combustion, the dynamic phase change from solid to liquid to vapor occurs across the melt layer. During the surface burning, liquid and gas phases are mixed in the intermediate zone between the propellant and the flame to form micro scale bubbles. The known thickness of the melt layer is approximately 1 micron at $10^5$ Pa. In this paper, we present a model of the melt layer structure and the dynamic motion of the melt front derived from the classical phase field theory. The model results show that the melt layer grows and propagates uniformly according to exp(-1/$T_s$) with $T_s$ being the propellant surface temperature.
ZrO2 fibers were fabricated by means of the Sol-Gel process using Zr(O-nC3H7)4-H2O-C2H5OH-HNO3 solution as a starting material. The optimum experimental parameters such as molar ratio of starting materials, concentration, temperature, viscosity, the amounts of stabilizer and the pH of solution were determined. The experimentally determined optimum variables which produce good ZrO2 fibers were used to manufacture the Y2O3-and CaO-ZrO2 fibers. The amounts of Y2O3 and CaO were varied within the range from 1.5~5 mol% and 3~15 mol% respectively. The phase transformation and microstructural evolution of the fabricated ZrO2 gel fibers were investigated after heat treatments up to 120$0^{\circ}C$ by X-ray diffraction, Raman microprobe spectroscopy, SEM, and specific surface area and pore volume measurements. From the analysis of X-ray diffraction and Raman spectra, the phase of heat treated Y2O3-and CaO partially stabilized ZrO2 gel fibers(Y2O3:2.5~3 mol%, CaO:6~9 mol%) were identified as a tetragonal phase up to 100$0^{\circ}C$. The maximum tensile strength of 2.5Y2O3-97.5ZrO2 and 6CaO-94ZrO2 (in mol%) fibers heat treated at 100$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr was found be 1.3~2 GPa with diameters of 10~20 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$.

In this work, we evaluated the structural, electrical and optical properties of $Ge_8Sb_2Te_{11}$ and Cu-doped $Ge_8Sb_2Te_{11}$ thin films prepared by rf-magnetron reactive sputtering. The 200-nm-thick deposited films were annealed in a range of $100{\sim}400^{\circ}C$ using a furnace in an $N_2$ atmosphere. The amorphous-to-crystalline phase changes of the thin films were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-Vis-IR spectrophotometry, a 4-point probe, and a source meter. A one-step phase transformation from amorphous to face-centered-cubic (fcc) and an increase of the crystallization temperature ($T_c$) was observed in the Cu-doped film, which indicates an enhanced thermal stability in the amorphous state. The difference in the optical energy band gap ($E_{op}$) between the amorphous and crystalline phases was relatively large, approximately 0.38~0.41 eV, which is beneficial for reducing the noise in the memory devices. The sheet resistance($R_s$) of the amorphous phase in the Cu-doped film was about 1.5 orders larger than that in undoped film. A large $R_s$ in the amorphous phase will reduce the programming current in the memory device. An increase of threshold voltage ($V_{th}$) was seen in the Cu-doped film, which implied a high thermal efficiency. This suggests that the Cu-doped $Ge_8Sb_2Te_{11}$ thin film is a good candidate for PRAM.
X-ray powder diffraction study was conducted on the bulk modulus and phase transition behavior of synthetic zeolite X under high temperature and high pressure. Water and HCO3- solution were used as a PTM. Sample was heated and pressurized up to 250 ℃ and 5.18 GPa. The change of unit cell volume and phase transition were observed by X-ray diffraction. The lattice constants and unit cell volume of zeolite X, gmelinite, natrolite, and smectite were calculated using the GSAS2 program to which Le Bail's whole powder pattern decomposition (WPPD) method was applied. The bulk modulus of each zeolite X and smectite were calculated using the EosFit program to which the Birch-Murnaghan equation was applied. The bulk modulus of zeolite X is 89(3) GPa in water run, and zeolite X is 92(3) GPa in HCO3- solution run. In both run, pressure induced hydration (PIH) occurred due to the inflow of PTM into the zeolite X framework at initial pressure. Zeolite X transited to gmelinite, natrolite, and smectite in water run. Zeolite X, however, transited to smectite in HCO3- solution run. Interzeolite transformation occurred in water run, and did not occur in HCO3- solution run, which is assumed that conflict between the environment to form zeolite and the pH of the HCO3- solution.

The effect of content of $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ sintering additives on the densification behavior, mechanical and electrical properties of the pressureless-sintered $SiC-ZrB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites was investigated. The $SiC-ZrB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites were pressurless-sintered for 2 hours at 1,700[$^{\circ}C$] temperatures with an addition of $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$(6 : 4 mixture of $Al_2O_3$ and $Y_2O_3$) as a sintering aid in the range of $8\;{\sim}\;20$[wt%]. Phase analysis of $SiC-ZrB_2$ composites by XRD revealed mostly of $\alpha$-SiC(6H), $ZrB_2$ and In Situ YAG($Al_5Y_3O_{12}$). The relative density, flexural strength, Young's modulus and vicker's hardness showed the highest value of 89.02[%], 81.58[MPa], 31.44[GPa] and 1.34[GPa] for $SiC-ZrB_2$ composites added with 16[wt%] $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ additives at room temperature respectively. Abnormal grain growth takes place during phase transformation from $\beta$-SiC into $\alpha$-SiC was correlated with In Situ YAG phase by reaction between $Al_2O_3$ and $Y_2O_3$ additive during sintering. The electrical resistivity showed the lowest value of $3.l4{\times}10^{-2}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ for $SiC-ZrB_2$ composite added with 16[wt%] $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ additives at 700[$^{\circ}C$]. The electrical resistivity of the $SiC-TiB_2$ and $SiC-ZrB_2$ composite was all negative temperature coefficient resistance (NTCR) in the temperature ranges from room temperature to 700[$^{\circ}C$]. Compositional design and optimization of processing parameters are key factors for controlling and improving the properties of SiC-based electroconductive ceramic composites.

In this study, effects of carbon and nickel on microstructure and low temperature Charpy impact properties of HSLA (high strength low alloy) steels are investigated. To understand the complex phase transformation behavior of HSLA steels with high strength and toughness before and after welding processes, three kinds of HSLA steels are fabricated by varying the carbon and nickel content. Microstructure analysis, low temperature Charpy impact test, and Vickers hardness test are performed for the base metals and CGHAZ (coarse-grain heat affected zone) specimens. The specimens with the lowest carbon and nickel content have the highest volume fraction of AF, the lowest volume fraction of GB, and the smallest GB packet size. So, the low temperature Charpy absorbed energy of the CGHAZ specimen is the highest. The specimens with increased carbon and nickel content have the lowest volume fraction of AF, the highest volume fraction of GB, and the largest GB packet size. So, the low temperature Charpy absorbed energy of the CGHAZ specimen is the lowest.
The composites were fabricated, respectively, using 61[vol.%]SiC-39[vol.%]$TiB_2$ and using 61[vol.%]SiC-39[vol.%]$ZrB_2$ powders with the liquid forming additives of 12[wt%] $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_{3}$ by hot pressing annealing at $1650[^{\circ}C]$ for 4 hours. Reactions between SiC and transition metal $TiB_2$, $ZrB_2$ were not observed in this microstructure. ${\beta}{\rightarrow}{\alpha}$-SiC phase transformation was occurred on the SiC-$TiB_2$ and SiC-$ZrB_2$ composite. The relative density, the flexural strength and Young's modulus showed the highest value of 98.57[%], 226.06[Mpa] and 86.38[Gpa] in SiC-$ZrB_2$ composite at room temperature respectively. The electrical resistivity showed the lowest value of $7.96{\times}10^{-4}[{\Omega}{\cdot}cm]$ for SiC-$ZrB_2$ composite at $25[^{\circ}C]$. The electrical resistivity of the SiC-$TiB_2$ and SiC-$ZrB_2$ composite was all positive temperature coefficient resistance (PTCR) in the temperature ranges from $25[^{\circ}C]$ to $700[^{\circ}C]$. The resistance temperature coefficient of composite showed the value of $6.88{\times}10^{-3}/[^{\circ}C]$ and $3.57{\times}10^{-3}/[^{\circ}C]$ for SiC-$ZrB_2$ and SiC-$TiB_2$ composite in the temperature ranges from $25[^{\circ}C]$ to $700[^{\circ}C]$.
An oxide-dispersion-strengthened (ODS) layer was formed on Zircaloy-4 tubes by a laser beam scanning process to increase mechanical strength. Laser beam was used to scan the yttrium oxide ($Y_2O_3$)-coated Zircaloy-4 tube to induce the penetration of $Y_2O_3$ particles into Zircaloy-4. Laser surface treatment resulted in the formation of an ODS layer as well as microstructural phase transformation at the surface of the tube. The mechanical strength of Zircaloy-4 increased with the formation of the ODS layer. The ring-tensile strength of Zircaloy-4 increased from 790 to 870 MPa at room temperature, from 500 to 575 MPa at $380^{\circ}C$, and from 385 to 470 MPa at $500^{\circ}C$. Strengthening became more effective as the test temperature increased. It was noted that brittle fracture occurred at room temperature, which was not observed at elevated temperatures. Resistance to dynamic high-temperature bursting improved. The burst temperature increased from 760 to $830^{\circ}C$ at a heating rate of $5^{\circ}C/s$ and internal pressure of 8.3 MPa. The burst opening was also smaller than those in fresh Zircaloy-4 tubes. This method is expected to enhance the safety of Zr fuel cladding tubes owing to the improvement of their mechanical properties.
