  • A PLL system has widely used for synchronizing the grid voltage at the grid-connected inverter for supplying power from the PV generation systems. In this paper, a PLL algorithm without both the loop filter and PI controller is suggested for improving the performance of synchronization at the single-phase and three-phase grid connected inverters. In order that the output voltage of a phase detector in the PLL has only a dc voltage, and it approaches to 0 when the synchronization signal is locked to the grid voltage, the feedback signals are determined by using two-phase voltages. After the PLL system with a proportional controller is modelled with the small signal analysis, the stability and steady-state error are investigated. Through the simulation studies and experimental results, the performances of the proposed PLL algorithm are verified.

  • For the power grid-connection of distributed generation, the output voltage of the distributed generation must be synchronized with the grid voltage before the grid-connection. In this paper, a vector control based synchronization algorithm was developed for grid linkage of three-phase inverters. A three-phase voltage inverter was designed and fabricated to verify the effectiveness of the developed algorithm. The main controller of the three-phase inverter was developed based on DSP, and the electrical level of the system was set to an electrical level that can be tested in the laboratory. Throughout the experiments, it was confirmed that the proposed algorithm could be used as a synchronization algorithm for grid-connection by showing that the output voltage of the three-phase inverter is synchronized with the grid voltage.

  • A new frame synchronization confirmation technique using a pilot pattern of both uplink and downlink channels is proposed for W-CDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) system. It is shown that by using this technique, we can cancel the side lobe for autocorrelation functions of the frame synchronization words of pilot pattern have the maximum to-of-phase autocorrelation value "4" with two peak values equal in magnitude and opposite in polarity at zero and middle shifts. Due to this side lobe cancellation effect, therefore, the autocorrelation function of the frame synchronization words becomes ideal for the frame synchronization confirmation since double maximum correlation values equal in magnitude and opposite polarity at zero ad middle shifts can be achieved. This property can be used to double check frame synchronization timing and thus. improve the frame synchronization confirmation performance.

  • In this paper, we propose a new symbol time synchronization scheme suitable for the OFDM system with an interpolator. The proposed performs the following three steps. In the first step, the coarse symbol time synchronization is achieved by continuously measuring the average power of the received envelope signal. Based on this average power, the detection possibility for the symbol time synchronization is determined. If the signal is sufficient for synchronization, we next perform a relatively accurate symbol time synchronization by measuring the correlation a short training signal and the received envelope signal. Finally, an additional frequency synchronization is performed with a long training signal to correct symbol synchronization errors caused by the phase rotation. From the simulation results, one can see that the proposed synchronization scheme provides a good synchronization performance over frequency selective channels.

  • Ultralow-noise soliton pulse generation over a wider Fourier frequency range is highly desirable for many high-precision applications. Here, we realize a low-phase-noise soliton pulse generation by transferring the low phase noise of a mode-locked laser to a silica microcomb. A 21.956-GHz and a 9.9167-GHz Kerr soliton combs are synchronized to a 2-GHz and a 2.5-GHz mode-locked laser through a fractional optoelectronic phase-locked loop, respectively. The phase noise of the microcomb was suppressed by up to ~40 dB at 1-Hz Fourier frequency. This result provides a simple method for low-phase-noise soliton pulse generation, thereby facilitating extensive applications.

  • Rapid and accurate phase synchronization is critical for the reliable control of grid-tied inverters. However, the commonly used software phase-locked loop methods do not always satisfy the need for high-speed and accurate phase synchronization under severe grid imbalance conditions. To address this problem, this study develops a novel open-loop phase locking scheme based on a synchronous reference frame. The proposed scheme is characterized by remarkable response speed, high accuracy, and easy implementation. It comprises three functional cascaded blocks: fast orthogonal signal generation block, fast fundamental-frequency positive sequence component construction block, and fast phase calculation block. The developed virtual orthogonal signal generation method in the first block, which is characterized by noise immunity and high accuracy, can effectively avoid approximation errors and noise amplification in a wide range of sampling frequencies. In the second block, which is the foundation for achieving fast phase synchronization within 3 ms, the fundamental-frequency positive sequence components of unsymmetrical grid voltages can be achieved with the developed orthogonal signal construction strategy and the symmetrical component method. The real-time grid phase can be consequently obtained in the third block, which is free from self-tuning closed-loop control and thus improves the dynamic performance of the proposed scheme. The proposed scheme is adaptive to severe unsymmetrical grid voltages with sudden changes in magnitude, phase, and/or frequency. Moreover, this scheme is able to eliminate phase errors induced by harmonics and random noise. The validity and utility of the proposed scheme are verified by the experimental results.

  • The transient and synchronization behaviors of a TA (thermo acoustic) laser pair were investigated experimentally for various crossing angles and different separation distances between the laser openings. Sound waves generated by the lasers were measured and analyzed at or near the focusing point by means of microphones, SPL meters, and a commercial software called Signal-Express. The two TA lasers were acoustically coupled through the air mass between their openings, and the only mode-locking operation that could be achieved was the one that was nearly $180^{\circ}C$ out of phase. The time to achieve synchronization was found to be dependent upon the initial mistuning of the frequencies and the crossing angle between the laser axes. The synchronization process could also be accelerated by turning on the laser with the lower power input first.

  • A novel and simple algorithm for accurate calculation of RMS voltage is proposed in a digitally controlled grid-tie inverter system. Given that the actual frequency of grid voltage is continuously changing, the constant sampling frequency cannot be a multiple number of the fundamental frequency. Therefore, the RMS of grid voltage contains periodic oscillations due to the differences in the phase angle of sampled data during calculation. The proposed algorithm precisely calculates and updates the initial phase angle of the first sampled voltage in a half-cycle period using phase-locked loop, which is commonly utilized for phase angle detection in grid-tie inverter systems. The accuracy and dynamic performance of the proposed algorithm are compared with those of other algorithms through various simulations and experiments.

  • The analysis of phase synchronization characteristics from EEG signals is important for the understanding of information processing functionality in the brain network. In this paper, wavelet transformation(WT), Hilbert tansformation (HT), complex demodulation (CD) methods having time localization characteristics were applied to real evoked potential data and noise added simulation data with center frequencies corresponding to EEG bands for the estimation performance analysis of phase offset, phase changing point, and interband crosstalk. The WT is the best both in ${\delta}$, ${\theta}$, and ${\alpha}$ band signal decomposition, and in analyzing phase synchronization performance. The CD can be efficiently used in changing point detection under tolerant noise condition because of its abrupt performance degradation over noise endurance level. From experimental observations, the WT is the most suitable in phase synchronization application of EEG signal, and the CD can be affordable in restricted application such as changing point detection for higher bands than ${\delta}$. Particularly, WT and CD can be used to detect the changing instant of brain function by indirectly estimating the phase changing point.

  • This paper presents an efficient synchronization sequency design for the digital cellular telephone. The class of synchronization sequences studied in this paper are sequences for synchronization that have the lowest out-of-phase values of the autocorrelation function with the two peak values equal in magnitude and opposite in polarity at zero and middle shifts. These synchronization sequences can be used to double-check synchronization timing and reduce the synchromication search time.
