Bordeaux mixture made with each grade of lime and copper sulfate was tested general property and disease control value. Bordeaux mixture was made by composition of each grade of lime (95%, 80%) with each grade of copper sulfate(98.5%, 95%). Phytotoxicity was evaluated to Bordeaux mixture made with each grade of lime and copper sulfate, and then low grade copper sulfate (95%) was more severely in the grapevine leaf. Bordeaux mixture, made with each grade lime and copper sulfate, were tried to evaluate control effects of downy mildew in field. As a result, Bordeaux mixture (95% of lime and 98.5% of copper sulfate, 6-6) applied 5 times at late in June was showed more effective disease control value than any other trials of Bordeaux mixture. There was no difference in nutrient status of petiole each treatment. But fruit characteristics were shown more slightly improved quality.
Calli were induced from the explants of infloresence, petiole and leaf blade of Cnidium officinale on MS medium with 2.4-D, while embryogenic callus was induced only from inflorescence explants. Somatic embryos of 78 per explant were formed during subculture of the explants on medium without 2.4-D after culture on medium with 2 mg/L 2.4-D. Cotyledonary variation, cup-shaped cotyledon of 49% and other abnormal cotyledons of 13.5 % was observed on the somatic embryos. However this variation could be overcomed by the addition of activated charcoal onto culture medium. Somatic embryos at cotyledonary stage germinated on MS basal medium but the germination rate was very poor, blow 50 %. Somatic embryos on the medium with activated charcoal showed improved germinaton.

This research was conducted to improve the cold tolerance of the gerbera cv. Gold Eye by introduction of the Arabidopsis $Ca^{2+}/H^+$ antiporter gene (CAX1) via Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. Prior to genetic transformation, we optimized a combination of plant growth regulators; $1.0mgl^{-1}$ 6-Benzyladenine (BA) and $0.1mgl^{-1}$3-indole-acetic acid (IAA) were found to lead to proper in vitro shoot regeneration from petiole explants. In addition, $50mgl^{-1}$ kanamycin was determined to be the minimal concentration useful for selection of putative transgenic plants. In this study, transgenic gerbera expressing the Arabidopsis $Ca^{2+}/H^+$ antiporter gene (CAX1) were obtained using the optimized concentrations. We expect that introduction of the gene to the cultivar will improve cold tolerance, which will be important in the winter months.

This study was carried out to investigate the growth characteristics and propagation methods of L. obtusiloba as a woody landscape plant. The results are obtained as follows: L. obtusiloba was dioecious shrub and shaped with bush type. Leaves were ovate, obtuse, cordate, 7.05 cm long, 7.20 cm wide, and petiole 2.0 cm long. Flowers of L. obtusiloba were diclinous. Soil acidity ranged from pH 4.06 to 5.53 with the lowest at the Mt. Soo-Ri. Mt. Soo-Ri located near factory district, which was considered to damaged by environmental deteoration. While soil organic matter was highest at Mt. Soo-Ri, inorganic nutrients were low. L. obtusiloba grows in the area with low soil acidity and low content of inorganic. Therefore it seemed to be tolerant to air pollution. L. Obtusiloba was high seed germination rate in the plug box and its shoots were longer than seeding box and softwood cutting of L. obtusiloba showed the rooting rate of 50% at 5,000ppm on June 23. To develop a mass propagation method of Korean native L. obtusiloba through an axillary bud culture as a woody landscape plant, about 2∼3 cm shoots induced from explant were subcultured to new media contained different growth regulators. Shoots multiplied most effectively on a WPM containing 1.0 mg/l BA, producing 5.5 shoots with a shoot length of 2.5 cm per shoot explant.
Essential oil extracted by solvent, n-pantane and diethyl ether for 2 hours was 0.1∼0.5% in Wasabia japonica Mastum. and it was showed the highest content in root and the lowest content in petiole. Allylisothiocyanate detected by gas chromatography contained in all of the plant part in wasabi. Its content in rhizome was 0.687∼1.339mg /g FW showing the highest content in rhizome. Allylisothiocyanate content was varied from culture site, variety and position of rhizome in wasabi.
To find out the effect of 2.4-D on growth response and fruit quality of strawberry, by leaf treatment (spray) of 120l/10a of 2.4-D(amine salt 40%) 10 ppm solution at flowering stage of 1st cluster, the experiment was carried out in the P-E film covered green-house. The strawberry plant showed the epinastic growing response with long petiole and petide and increased the evolution of ethylene from leaves and fruits after 2.4-D spraying. Therefore, the peak of picking time was accerated about 15 days according to the higher amount of ethylene evolution from strawberry plants, and the yield of fruit increased about 18% by improving the average weight of a fruit.
In this study, we aimed to clarify the wettability and anisotropic flow characteristics of rice leaves as a basic study for engineering applications of anisotropic flow characteristics of rice leaf surface. To investigate the surface structure of rice leaf, the micro grooves and asperities of rice leaves were analyzed and quantified by scanning electron microscope, Confocal laser scanning microscopy, and stylus profilometer. The analysis of the structure of rice leaf surface confirmed that asymmetrical cone - like protrusions in leaf veins were inclined toward the leaf tip. The static contact angle test showed that the contact angle at the midline vein or leaf vein location where the micropapilla is concentrated is about $20^{\circ}$ higher than the leaf blade position. The contact angles of fresh and dried rice leave were also compared. The dried rice leaves showed a contact angle of about $5^{\circ}$ to $15^{\circ}$ higher than that of fresh leaves, suggesting that the volume of the protrusions decreased as the water was removed, thus reducing the contact area with the droplet. In the contact angle history test the hysteresis in the leaf tip direction was found to be much lower than that in the leaf petiole direction. This results can be explained that asymmetrical cone - like protrusions had a significant effect on the droplet flow characteristics through contact angle hysteresis experiment.
In India, Gymnema sylvestre due to the unique property of the plant to antagonize the sweet taste is known as 'Gur-mar'. It has several ethnomedicinal values as various tribals/traditional communities and rural peoples of India find diverse medicinal uses viz. antidiabetic, stomachic, diuretic, and is useful in cough and throat troubles. Besides, it has strong effect on reducing blood sugar. The present communication deals with the detailed pharmacognostical evaluation of the aerial parts of G. sylvestre collected from three places of the country-Varanasi (U.P), Panchmarhi (M.P), Salem (Tami Nadu) and commercial sample procured from local market. The botanical and physico-chemical parameters of all the samples were quite similar though little variations were observed in foaming index, alcohol and water soluble extractives of local sample. The microscopic characteristics of the drug are horse shoe shaped petiole with 3 amphicribal vascular bundles, sieve tubes well developed; anomocytic stomata only on the abaxial surface of the leaf, the fan shaped amphicribal vascular bundle, presence of intraxylary phloem. The TLC fingerprint profile of all the samples was more or less similar only the quantity of some of the compounds varied.
Gray mold caused by Botrytis cinerea occurred on Saintpaulia ionantha in flower shop of the Jeonju city in Korea. Typical symptoms with brown water-soaked and rotting lesions were appeared on the flowers, leaves and petiole of infected plants. Many conidia spores appeared on the lesions under humid conditions. Colonies were grayish brown and sclerotial formation on potato dextrose agar. Conidia were one celled, mostly ellipsoidal or ovoid in shape, and were colorless to pale brown in color. The conidia were $7{\sim}14{\times}5{\sim}9\;{\mu}m$ in size. Based on pathogenicity and morphological characteristics of the isolated fungus, the causal fungus was identified as B. cinerea Persoon: Fries. Gray mold of S. ionantha was proposed to the name of this disease.
To study calmodulin (CaM) gene expression and its regulation, rice CaM promoter (RCaM-2) was isolated and fused to $\beta-glucuronidase$ (GUS), reporter gene. X-Glue staining patterns revealed that GUS localization is high in meristemic tissues such as the stem apex, stolen tip, and vascular regions. GUS staining in the transverse sections of stem and petiole was restricted to the inside of the vascular system, and cortex and epidermis located outside of the vascular system usually did not show GUS staining even a plant that expressed strong activity. GUS activity was found to be tissue specific expressed and exhibited a dramatic transient increase in response to wounding. These results suggest that the 5'-flanking region of RCaM gene regulates wound-inducible expression.
