  • This study was performed to evaluate the effects of filler on engineering properties of permeable polymer concrete with unsaturated polyester resin. The following conclusions were drawn; 1. The unit weight was in the range of $1.804{\sim}1.919t/m^3$, the weights of those concrete were decreased 17~22% than that of the normal cement concrete. 2. The highest strength was achieved by stone dust filled permeable polymer concrete, it was increased 17% by compressive, 147% by tensile and 188% by bending strength than that of the normal cement concrete, respectively. 3. The ultrasonic pulse velocity was in the range of 2,722~3,060m/sec, which was showed about the same compared to that of the normal cement concrete. Stone dust filled permeable polymer concrete was showed higher pulse velocity. 4. The water permeability was in the range of $3.076{\sim}4.152{\ell}/cm^2/h$, and it was larglely dependent upon the mix design. These concrete can be used to the structures which need water permeability. 5. The compressive strength, tensile strength, bending strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity were largely showed with the increase of unit weight. But, it was decreased with the increase of water permeability, respectively.

  • In this paper, permeable polymer concretes with unsaturated polyester or vinylester resin content from 5 to 8 weight %, resin-filler ratio of 1 : 1, sand content from 0 to 15 weight % and crushed stone of size 2.5∼10 mm were prepared, and tested for compressive strength, flexural strength and water permeability. The effects of the resin and sand contents on the properties of permeable polymer concrete were discussed. It is concluded from the test results that increase in the strength and decrease in the coefficient of permeability of the permeable polymer concrete arc clearly observed with increasing the resin and sand contents. The permeable polymer concrete showed compressive strength in the range of 170 to 350 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and flexural strength in the range of 40 to 90 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at coefficient of permeability from 0.1 to 1.0 cm/sec in this experiment.

  • In this study, to enhance the quality of concrete surface by removing the surplus water, permeable liner attached the euroform was applied for manufacturing concrete specimens. Various kinds of concrete mixtures with different water to binder ratios were applied and the strength properties of the hardened concrete surfaces were evaluated at different heights. Experimental results showed that the rebound values by schmidt hammer test and the compressive strengths on the surfaces of concrete specimens were increased as proportion to the amount of mixture water which is dependent on the water to binder ratio of each concrete mixture, and more enhancements were observed on the middle and lower specimen surfaces than the upper region. SEM analysis also showed that much denser hydrate structures were observed on the specimen surfaces by the application of the permeable liner while similar hydrate formations were occurred regardless of surface treatment conditions. From the MIP test results of the concrete surfaces, it was observed that, by the application of permeable liner, the pore volume below $0.01{\mu}m$ was decreased with a maximum of 50% resulting in the densification of pore structures.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the properties of permeable polymer concrete with fly ash and CaCO3. The following conclusions are drawn. The static modulusof elasticity is in the range of 1.19 $\times$105 ~1.49$\times$105 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$, which is approximately 53 ~56% of that of the normal cement concrete. The oission's number of permeable polymer concrete is in the range of 3.95 ~6.53, which is less than that of the normal cement concrete. The dynamic modulus of elasticity is in the range of 1.29$\times$105 ~1.59$\times$105 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$, which is approximately less compared to that of the normal cement of the static modulus . Fly ash 50% and CaCO3 50% filled permeable polymer concrete has showed higher dynamic modulus. The water permeability is in therange of 3.971 ~4.393$\ell$ /$\textrm{cm}^2$/h, and it is largely dependent upon the mix design. These concrete can be used to the structures which need water permeability.

  • Fresh concrete has 10~20% extra water in it. As those water remain entrapped air in the concrete, life span of structures is reduced. For that reason, if extra water is eliminated, it will be useful to improve the durability of the structures. Though there were many reports about permeable formwork, the study on the properties of permeable liner itself has been insufficient. In addition, making holes on the form causes lowering of workability. Therefore, this study reviewed the properties of woven and non-woven permeable liner and formwork which has no holes on the form. For the woven and non-woven permeable liner, they showed great application with W/C decrease, lowering roughness, increased compressive strength of surface area and slight loss of cement paste, when the were applied to concrete. In addition, they showed different performance according to the density of woven liner or thickness of non-woven liner. Furthermore, when using the draining non-woven permeable liner which has drainage path inside, concrete surface showed required performance with high workability, without drilling the holes on the form.

  • Many marine wastes such as seaweeds are casted aside at the seasides. So, the objective of this study is to apply the marine wastes to the concrete. To this end, mortar and concrete tests with the marine wastes have been conducted. The results of the present mortar and concrete tests indicate that the mortar and concrete with marine wastes admixtures exhibits very low permeability. The present study provides a firm base for the use of very low permeable concrete and the application of the marine structures and the submerged structures.

  • Most of the roads are paved with impermeable materials such as asphalt concrete and cement concrete, and in the event of heavy rainfall, rainwater directly flows into river through a drainage hole on the pavement surface. This large quantity of rainwater directly spilled into the river frequently leads to the flooding of urban streams, damaging lowlands and the lower reaches of a river. In recent years there has been a great deal of ongoing research concerning water permeability and drainage in pavements. Accordingly, in this research, a porous polymer concrete was developed for permeable pavement by using unsaturated polyester resin as a binder, recycled aggregate as coarse aggregate, fly ash and blast furnace slag as filler, and its physical and mechanical properties were investigated. Also, 3 types of permeable polymer block by optimum mix design were developed and rainfall runoff reduction effects by permeability pavement using permeable polymer block were analyzed based on hydraulic experimental model. The infiltration volume, infiltration ratio, runoff initial time and runoff volume in permeability pavement with permeable polymer block of $300{\times}300{\times}80$ mm were evaluated for 50, 100 and 200mm/hr rainfall intensity.

  • Permeable polymer concrete has a lot of internal voids, which has more excellent performance in permeability and durability than asphalt and cement concrete. Therefore, in this paper, influences of grading distribution of aggregates on the permeable polymer concrete are presented using polyester resin as binders. According to test results, it shows that compressive strength and unit weight increase with continuous grading distribution and increase of binder content, while void and permeability coefficient shows decline tendency

  • In underground reinforced concrete structures, such as drainage structure, water and chloride ion penetrated into concrete through the cracks of concrete and its permeable property, cause the corrosion of reinforcing steel bar, which accelerates the expansive cracks and deterioration of concrete. It is necessary to control those deterioration of underground structure by improving its permeability and durability through the reasonable solutions in design, construction and materials. In the present study, fly ash concrete, which has good material properties in long-term period, is compared and studied with plain concrete using ordinary portland cement in terms of fundamental mechanical properties, permeability, drying shrinkage and durability. Also, the mix design and its properties of low permeable concrete using fly ash are reviewed. From this study, fly ash concrete can conctrol the penetration of water and chloride ion effectively by forming dense microstructure of concrete. Therefore, fly ash concrete may increase the long-term function, performance and serviceability of underground structures.
