An Integrated Production and Inventory Model in a Single-Vendor Multi-Buyer Supply Chain (단일 공급자 다수 구매자 공급체인에서 통합 생산 및 재고 모형)

  • This paper is to analyze an integrated production and inventory model in a single-vendor multi-buyer supply chain. The vendor is defined as the manufacturer and the buyers as the retailers. The product that the manufacturer produces is supplied to the retailers with constant periodic time interval. The production rate of the manufacturer is constant for the time. The demand of the retailers is constant for the time. The cycle time of the vendor is defined as the elapsed time from the start of the production to the start of the next production, while the cycle times of the buyer as the elapsed time between the adjacent supply times from the vendor to the buyer. The cycle times of the vendor and the buyers that minimizes the total cost in a supply chain are analyzed. The cost factors are the production setup cost and the inventory holding cost of the manufacturer, the ordering cost and the inventory holding cost of the retailers. The cycle time of the vendor is investigated through the cycle time that satisfies economic production quantity with the production setup cost and the inventory holding cost of the manufacturer. An integrated production and inventory model is formulated, and an algorithm is developed. An numerical example is presented to explain the algorithm. The solution of the algorithm for the numerical examples is compared with that of genetic algorithm. Numerical example shows that the vendor and the buyers can save cost by integrated decision making.

  • Purpose: Familial hypokalemic periodic paralysis (HOKPP) is an autosomal dominant channelopathy characterized by episodic attacks of muscle weakness and hypokalemia. Mutations in the calcium channel gene, CACNA1S, or the sodium channel gene, SCN4A, have been found to be responsible for HOKPP; however, the mechanism that causes hypokalemia remains to be determined. The aim of this study was to improve the understanding of this mechanism by investigating the expression of calcium-activated potassium ($K_{Ca}$) channel genes in HOKPP patients. Methods: We measured the intracellular calcium concentration with fura-2-acetoxymethyl ester in skeletal muscle cells of HOKPP patients and healthy individuals. We examined the mRNA and protein expression of KCa channel genes (KCNMA1, KCNN1, KCNN2, KCNN3, and KCNN4) in both cell types. Results: Patient cells exhibited higher cytosolic calcium levels than normal cells. Quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction analysis showed that the mRNA levels of the $K_{Ca}$ channel genes did not significantly differ between patient and normal cells. However, western blot analysis showed that protein levels of the KCNMA1 gene, which encodes $K_{Ca}$1.1 channels (also called big potassium channels), were significantly lower in the membrane fraction and higher in the cytosolic fraction of patient cells than normal cells. When patient cells were exposed to 50 mM potassium buffer, which was used to induce depolarization, the altered subcellular distribution of BK channels remained unchanged. Conclusion: These findings suggest a novel mechanism for the development of hypokalemia and paralysis in HOKPP and demonstrate a connection between disease-associated mutations in calcium/sodium channels and pathogenic changes in nonmutant potassium channels.

  • When exposed to uniform magnetic fields externally applied, paramagnetic particles acquire dipole moments and the induced moments interacting with each other lead to the formation of chainlike structures or clusters of particles aligned with the field direction. A direct simulation method, based on the Maxwell stress tensor and a fictitious domain method, is applied to solve flows with magnetic chains in simple shear flow. We assumed that the particles constituting the chains are paramagnetic, and inertia of both flow and magnetic particles is negligible. The numerical scheme enables us to take into account both hydrodynamic and magnetic interactions between particles in a fully coupled manner, enabling us to numerically visualize breakup and reformation of the chains by the combined effect of the external field and the shear flow. Simple shear flow with suspended magnetic chains is solved in a periodic domain for a given magnetic field. Dynamics of interacting magnetic chains is found to be significantly affected by a dimensionless parameter called the Mason number, the ratio of the viscous force to the magnetic force in the shear flow. The effect of particle area fraction on the chain dynamics is investigated as well.

A Simulation-based Heuristic Algorithm for Determining a Periodic Order Policy at the Supply Chain: A Service Measure Perspective (공급사슬 내의 재고관리를 위한 모의실험에 기초한 발견적 기법: 봉사척도 관점)

  • Supply chain management (SCM) is an area that has recently received a great deal of attention in the business community. While SCM is relatively new, the idea of coordinated planning is not. During the last decades, many researchers have investigated multi-stage inventory problems. However, only a few papers address the problem of cost-optimal coordination of multi-stage inventory control with respect to service measures. Even published approaches have a shortcoming in dealing with a delivery lead time consisted of a shipping time and a waiting time. Assumed that there is no waiting time, or that the delivery lead time is implicitly compounded of a shipping time and a waiting time, the problem is often simplified into a multi-stage buffer allocation and a single-stage stochastic buffer sizing problem at all installations. This paper presents a simulation-based heuristic algorithm and a comparison with others for the problem that cannot be decomposed into a multi-stage buffer allocation and a single-stage stochastic buffer sizing problem because the waiting time ties together all stages. The comparison shows that the simulation-based heuristic algorithm performs better than other approaches in saving average inventory cost for both Poisson and Normal demands.

  • This paper analyzed the delay characteristics of speech packets in virtual cellular network(VCN). The probability distribution of packet delay is obtained using the markov chain model when periodic speech packets are transmitted by slotted-ALOHA protocol. The effects of probility of capture and retransmission policy on the performance were also analyzed. At first, the probability cumulative function of packet delay is calculated from the probability of capture as a function of location of mobile terminal. In order to investigate the effects of backoff delay, we defined a parameter NPr, where N is the period (frame size) of the speech packets and Pr is the retransmission probability for each speech packet. We also obtained the 1% outage delay for various frame size N.

  • This paper presents an integrated analysis of supply chain and financing decisions of multi-national corporation. We construct a model in which multiple currency storage units are installed to manage the currency flows associated with multi-national supply chain activities such as raw material procurement, process operation, inventory control, transportation and finished product sales. Core contribution of this study is to quantitatively investigate the influence of macroscopic economic factors such as exchange rates and taxes on operational decisions. The supply chain is modeled by the Process-Storage Network with recycle streams. The objective function of the optimization is minimizing the opportunity costs of annualized capital investments and currency/material inventories minus the benefit to stockholders interpreted by home currency. The major constraints of the optimization are that the material and currency storage units must not be depleted. A production and inventory analysis formulation, the periodic square wave (PSW) model, provides useful expressions for the upper/lower bounds and average levels of the currency and material inventory holdups. The expressions for the Kuhn-Tucker conditions of the optimization problem are reduced to a subproblem and analytical lot sizing equations. The procurement, production, transportation and financial transaction lot sizes can be determined by analytical expressions after the average flow rates are already known. We show that, when corporate income tax is taken into consideration, the optimal production lot and storage sizes are smaller than is the case when such factors are not considered typically by 20 %.

  • In this paper, we measured the tracking response time of horizontal eye movement to the target moving according to the square waveform to investigate the predictive characteristics of the human oculomotor system. And in the experiment we used the square waves with an amplitude of 5 degree and frequencies o.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0, and 1.2 Hz. Random occurrences of the human eye movement reponse time were analyzed using a finite Markov chain process and we found the results as follows. From both the experimental and theoretical results, we found the trend showing that Predictive characteristics moved from the transient state to the steady state.

  • Two losing games that can be combined, either by periodic alternation or by random mixture, to form a winning game are known as Parrondo games. We consider a collective version of Parrondo games in which players are allowed to choose the game to be played by the whole ensemble in each turn. In this paper, we analyze the long-range optimization strategy for all choices of the parameters and find the expected average profit in the steady state.

  • The rapidly changing environments of today's hospitality industry lays more and more emphasis on the management of food & beverage sector. Hotel restaurants changes their menus 2 times a year. But they tend to modify or complement old items, or imitate other restaurants'menus, rather than try new ones. In addition, the change cycles are determined without any systematic and scientific criteria. Based on the survey, a plan for managing menu change cycles is proposed. The proposed plan is summarized as follows: First, the survey result demonstrates that the appropriate frequency of menu changes is: twice a year for the fixed menu; four times for the seasonal menu; four times for the promotion menu; twice for the business menu; and, three times for the event menu. Second, under the management maintained by consistent monitoring of menu change. Third, menu change should be managed through the menu analyses on its profitability, popularity, and the potential for further growth. Fourth, menu change should be managed through the periodic investigations of the tastes and preferences of the customers. fifth, a unique system for the menu change should be constructed by analyzing of other competitive restaurants or restaurant chain stores.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of sharing uncertain yield information with a downstream supply chain player. We are interested in understanding how the amount of yield uncertainty affects the supply-side benefits and/or costs, which has not been considered in the literature, in addition to the customer-side benefits. With that purpose, this work evaluates a supplier who provides yield information in comparison with another supplier who shares no information. We simulate an order-up-to type heuristic policy that is adapted from the literature and reasonably modified to represent yield information sharing with error. From the simulation study, we argue that the customer would experience cost reduction, but the cost for supplier's inventory is increasing when sharing yield information. Furthermore, the amount of benefits and costs are situational and affected by level of yield uncertainty and demand variance. Based on the simulation study, we finally make several recommendations for the supply-side approaches to yield information sharing.
