Validity of Seismic Performance Evaluation Using Static Analysis (정적해석을 이용한 내진성능평가의 타당성)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the validity of seismic performance evaluation using static analysis. For this purpose, Ordinary Moment Resisting Steel Frames(OMRSF) for different heights(3, 6 ,9, 12 story) and seismic zones(Zone 2A, 2B, 3, 4) were designed in compliance to AISC LRFD 1993 Seismic Provisions and NEHRP 1994 Guidelines. Nonlinear Static Procedure(NSP) and Nonlinear Dynamic Procedure(NDP) with a set of ground motion record were used to evaluate seismic demands in OMRSFs. Using the DRAIN-2DX program, this study compares peak displacement demands(Target Displacement) proposed by FEMA 273 with the peak roof displacement demands obtained from the inelastic time history analyses. Based on the results, the validity of procedure of seismic demand evaluation using Target Displacement is discussed.

  • This paper is proposed that in-output Digital module is acquired a vibration signal of a rotating machinery by Data Acquisition System. The module is designed to get ride of nose through low pass filter on the vibration signal from sensors and set the gain value for being able to sampling AC to DC, and also the sampled data by sampler and the conversed data by DIP/FPGA is supplied to the analyzer for analysis at a software tool. The DIP(Digital Signal Processor) of the Digital input/output Board makes Average voltage, Peak to Peak voltage, RMS(Root Mean Square) and Gap voltage, also FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) for rotating vibration diagnosis.

  • This paper describes a new algorithm to evaluate the production cost for a generation system including energy-limited hydroelectric plants. The algorithm is based upon the analytical production costing model developed under the assumption of Gaussian probabilistic distribution of random load fluctuations and plant outages. Hydro operation and pumped storage operation have been dealt with in the previous papers using the concept of peak-shaving operation. In this paper, the hydro problem is solved by using a new version of the gradient projection method that treats the upper / lower bounds of variables saparately and uses a specified initial active constraint set. Accuracy and validity of the algorithm are demonstrated by comparing the result with that of the peak-shaving model.

  • In this paper, we consider the mixed $L_1/H_{\infty}$ problems of finding internally stabilizing controllers which minimize the peak-to-peak gain of a certain closed loop transfer function with $H_{\infty}$-norm constraint on other closed loop transfer function(or vise versa). This problem is a useful framework for designing a controller with the norm constraints upon time and frequency domain. We formulate the mixed $L_1/H_{\infty}$ problem as LMI problems by using the reachable set. This paper offers the sufficient condition for the existence of suboptimal state feedback controller, and shows that suboptimal solution can be obtained by solving a finite-dimensional convex optimization and a line search.

ANALYSIS OF TEMPERATURE RISE ON THE SURFACE OF BUCHANAN PLUGGER USING THERMOCOUPLE (열전대(thermocouple)를 이용한 Buchanan Plugger 표면의 온도상승 분석)

  • This study was performed to evaluate the actual temperature rise on the surface of Buchanan plugger using thermocouple. The heat carrier system 'System B Heatsource'(Model 1005, Analytic Technologies, Redmond, WA, USA) and the Buchanan pluggers of F, FM, M and ML sizes are used for this study. The temperature was set to 200^{\circ}C on digital display and the power level on it was set to 10. Five thermocouples were placed in direct contact with the surface of each size of Buchanan's pluggers at 1 mm increments from the tip to the 4 mm length of shank. The heat control spring was touched for 5 seconds. and the temperature rise on the surface of the pluggers were measured at 1 sec intervals for more than 5 seconds with an accuracy of 0.01 using Data Logger. The data were statistically analyzed by one-way ANOVA. The results were as follows. 1. The position at which the temperature peaked was approximately at 1~2 mm far from the tip of Buchanan plugger (p<0.01). 2. The peak temperature was $215.25{\pm}2.28^{\circ}C$ in F plugger. $185.94{\pm}2.19^{\circ}C$ in FM plugger, $169.51{\pm}9.12^{\circ}C$ in M plugger, and 160.79{\pm}1.27^{\circ}C in ML plugger and the peak temperature was highest in F plugger and followed by. in descending order. FM plugger. M plugger. ML plugger showed the lowest peak temperature (p<0.01). 3. The temperature on the plugger was decreased with the increase of touching time. This results suggest that the actual temperature on the surface of the pluggers does not correlate well with the temperature set on digital display. Heat concentrates around the tip. The larger plugger reveals lower temperature rise relatively.

Acoustic Characteristics of Watermelon for Internal Quality Evaluation (내부품질 판정을 위한 수박의 음파특성)

  • The objectives of the study were to analyze the acoustic characteristics related to the internal quality factors of watermelon(Citrulus Vulgaris Schrad). Among the various internal quality factors, only four factors such as ripeness, inside cavity, yellow belt and blood flesh were considered in this study. Relationships between the internal quality factors, the day after fruit set and the day after harvest were also investigated. Test apparatus was the same as the apparatus described in the previous study(Choi et at., 2000). The selected sample was divided into four groups; 69 samples used for ripeness tests 56 samples for ripeness test along the day after fruit set and for yellow belt detection, 60 samples for ripeness along the day after harvest 44 samples fur blood flesh detection. It was shown that the first peak frequencies shifted to the lower range and the energy ratios of the bandwidths between 0∼550 Hz to the bandwidths between 850∼2500 Hz increased as the day after fruit set elapsed. Since the acoustic responses of the watermelon such as frequency and magnitude began to change from 10 days after harvest, the storage period of watermelon in a normal temperature condition seemed to be approximately 10 days after harvest. The ratios of the first peak amplitude to the maximum peak amplitude fur the sound watermelon showed the higher value than that fur watermelon with cavity inside, and the separation between the sound and cavity inside could be accomplished by the ratio value of 0.25. The energy ratios (0∼550 Hz/850∼2,500 Hz) for the watermelon with cavity inside showed the higher value than 2.3. The frequency characteristics of the yellow belt watermelon appeared mostly in the range of 600∼900 Hz frequencies. The yellow belt watermelon showing the energy spectral density function at this frequency range to be over 70 seemed to be not a marketable commodity, The energy ratios(0∼550 Hz/850∼2,500 Hz) for the blood flesh watermelon showed the higher value than 3.5.

Analysis of Volatile Components of a Chicken Model Food System in Retortable Pouches Using Multivariate Method (다변량 해석을 이용한 레토르트 파우치 계육 모형식품의 휘발성분 분석)

  • The changes in volatiles of the model system were analyzed by GC and GC-MS before and after retorting. The GC data were analyzed statistically by applying the analysis of variance, and 42 peaks were selected at 5% significance level. Multivariate statistical analysis was performed with these 42 peaks as independent variables. Through the stepwise discriminant analysis, 8 peaks, which corresponded to the compounds such as 2-heptanone, cis-3-hexenal, 2-pentyl-furan, 1-methyl-trans-1,2-cyclohexanediol, 2-hexanone, 3-octanone, trans, trans-nona-2,4-dienal and 1-octen-3-ol, were obtained in sequence to distinguish the samples with and without retorting. The principal component analysis of a set of 8 independent variables resulted in 3 principal components which accounted for 96.1% of the variance, while the first principal component (PC 1) explained 76.5% of the total variance. In addition, through the factor analysis of the principal components, the peaks 11, 20 and 21 could be grouped togather in accordance with the direction and the size while the peaks 9, 33 and 39 constituted the second group in the direction.

  • This paper presents a design of the fuzzy decision maker which infers set value for fuel rate in the rotary kiln of making CaO. The fuzzy decision maker proposed are divided into two groups whose functions are different each other. The one operates when production demand is constant. The other deals with the status of varying production demand. We have chosen several variables used for composing condition and action part by investigating ingerent features of the rotary kiln and skilled operators`manual method of inferring fuel rate. Membership function of each variable was designed by analyzing experimental data and field data collected during two months. On-line operation with fuzzy rules suggested was done safely like human operators' action.

  • This paper presents a new algorithm for P-wave detection in the ECG signal, we get the peak, onset and offset point by using significant point extraction algorithm with 5-point derivative. To these set of extracted significant points, we apply amplitude and duration threshold criterion. we define the set of significant point meeting the criterion as P-wave candidate. Then P-wave candidate is classified through match-process with template. The template with maximum number or P-wave candidate is selected to be the P-wave.

Throughput Based Study of UWB Receiver Modem Parameters

  • The MB-OFDM based UWB communication system is a personal area network specification aiming to provide 480Mbps peak data rate over 528 MHz spectrum. As the corresponding baseband modem operates at high clock rate, its complexity should be optimized for low power consumption. A set of modem design parameters is suggested including the AD bit width, the clipping level and the quantization level at the Viterbi decoder input as well as the trace-back depth of the Viterbi decoder. The data throughput is used to evaluate the performance of the receiver and a recommended set of design parameter values is presented to aid efficient modem implementation.
