  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of capsulated slurry phase change material (PCM) on the thermal crack in mass concrete by experimental work and FEM analysis. In this study, three conditions of samples were prepared for evaluating the level of hydration heat, i.e., a material condition, a cement paste condition and a concrete condition. Also, a compressive strength test was conducted for FEM inverse analysis. Based on the results of the experiment, exothermic function coefficients of concrete with encapsulated slurry PCM were deducted by the inverse analysis. After that, they applied to FEM analysis of the mass scale concrete structures. From the results of this experiment, $31^{\circ}C$ capsulated slurry PCM had no super cooling phenomenon in the material condition. In the cement condition, hydration heat decreased by 34.61J when PCM of 1g was mixed. In the concrete condition, PCM of 6% was deducted as the best level in hydration heat absorption. In FEM inverse analysis, rate coefficient of reaction gradually decreased when PCM mixing ratio increased. But, temperature-rise coefficient increased when PCM mixing ratio exceeded 6%. For the inversed exothermic function coefficients applying to large scale concrete structures, a thermal cracking index increased by 0.05 when PCM of 1% was mixed.

  • Recently, environmental concerns and issues have become great concerns for the public. Therefore, this study is conducted with the objective of preventing energy depletion and $CO_2$ emission. PCM (Phase Change Materials) having latent heat characteristic is mixed in mortar to find a proper mix proportion. Also, the mortar properties and performances as well as a melting point of PCM when applied to air conditioning and heating conditions in at building environments were obtained by performing experiments. Also, latent heat and heat transfer characteristics were obtained from experiments by test of thermal performance to formulate temperature gradient about amount of heat transfer of PCM content using the Fourier's thermal equation. The study results can be used in the application of PCM in buildings and expected effect of air conditioning and heating energy.

  • To replace conventional DRAM, many researches have been done on nonvolatile memories. The DRAM&PCM hybrid memory is one of the effective structure because it can utilize an advantage of DRAM and PCM. However, in order to use this characteristics, pages can be replaced frequently between DRAM and PCM. Therefore, PCM still has major problem that has write-limits. Therefore, it needs an effective page management method for exploiting each memory characteristics dynamically and adaptively. So we aim reducing an average access time and write count of PCM by utilizing two locality for an effective page replacement. We proposed a page selection algorithm which is recently requested to write in DRAM and an algorithm witch uses two locality in PCM. According to our simulation, the proposed algorithm for the DRAM&PCM hybrid can reduce the PCM write count by around 22% and the average access time by 31% given the same PCM size, compared with CLOCK-DWF algorithm.

  • Phase Change Memory(PCM) with low power consumption and high integration attracts attention as a next generation nonvolatile memory replacing DRAM. However, there is a problem that PCM has long latency and high energy consumption due to the writing operation. The PCM & DRAM hybrid memory structure is a fruitful structure that can overcome the disadvantages of such PCM. However, the page replacement algorithm is important, because these structures use two memory of different characteristics. The purpose of this document is to effectively manage pages that can be referenced in memory, taking into account the characteristics of DRAM and PCM. In order to manage these pages, this paper proposes an page replacement algorithm based on frequently accessed and recently paged. According to our simulation, the proposed algorithm for the DRAM&PCM hybrid can reduce the energy-delay product by around 10%, compared with Clock-DWF and CLOCK-HM.

  • The cooling effect of a mobile phone using PCM(Phase Change Material) module has been numerically investigated. A transient three-dimensional numerical analysis of heat and fluid flow with natural convection is performed in this study. Governing conservation equations for mass, momentum and energy are solved by an implicit finite volume method. An enthalpy-porosity technique has been used for modeling of the melting process. Two different ways of placing the PCM module are considered. One is to place a PCM module between the substrate and battery pack, and the other is to place a PCM module between MCM(multichip module) and battery pack. Three different types of PCMs are used to predict the performance of PCM. The results show that passive cooling with PCM can reduce the temperature rise and the effect of natural convection in PCM module considered in this study is negligible.

  • In the building, controlling temperature is main concern for maintaining fresh environment. To control temperature, phase change material(PCM) can be used as a medium that keeps temperature in certain level. PCM has its own phase change temperature. PCM melts/solidifies while absorbing/releasing the heat. Because of the advantage, PCM can be applied to a air-PCM heat exchanger. In this study, the air-PCM heat exchanger was designed based on the system requirements and experimental analysis was conducted to study on the performance of the heat exchanger.

  • Professional Construction Management (PCM) services have become more and more popular in Taiwan in the past decade. However, disputes between PCM consultant and the client on the performance of PCM services are also increasing. The evaluation of PCM performance is a tough task due to the lack of "physical product", such as the drawings finished by the architect. This paper is intended to propose a PCM performance evaluation system (PPES) based on Balanced Scorecard (BSC). A case study of PCM consultancy for a real world design/build project is conducted to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed BSC framework

  • Objectives : The present study was conducted to evaluate protective effects of Combined Extract of young persimmon fruit and citrus peel (PCM) in Reflux Esophagitis(RE) rats. Methods : Twenty-four Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were divided four groups and each group had six rats ; Normal group, RE control group, RE group treated PCM 50 ,100 mg/kg body weight group. Reflux esophagitis was induced that tied the pylorus and fundus in SD rats stomach. PCM was administered at 50, 100 mg/kg body weight 2 hrs prior to induction of RE. After 6 hrs, the effects of PCM treated rats were compared with those of normal and control rats. We have performed an analysis such as pH of stomach secretion, oxidative stress biomarkers in serum, and western blot. Results : The increased esophageal mucosa damage by RE was markedly improved by PCM treatment in a dose-dependent manner. Also, the administration of PCM decreased the elevated serum reactive oxygen species (ROS) and peroxynitrite (ONOO-) in serum. The protein expressions of anti oxidant such as SOD, catalase, GPx exhibited down-regulation by PCM treatment in tissues. And, PCM effectively reduce inflammatory cytokines such as inflammation-related proteins cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), Tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6) in RE rats. In addition, NFκB and p-IκBɑ were decreased in PCM-adiministrated RE rats. But there was no difference on stomach secretion pH between reflux esophagitis rats and PCM administration rat group. Conclusions : In conclusion, administration of PCM (50, 100 mg/kg body weight) made esophagus have less inflammation and injury by decreased NFκB path way. These findings suggest that PCM could have Improving effects on reflux esophagitis.
