Effect of PCBs on the skin and gill development of olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus were investigated by histological methodology and morphometric data. The olive flounder were exposed to limit concentration of effulent of PCBs (3.0 ${\mu}g/L$) for 60 days. Skin development can be classified into four stages: SSEL (simple squamous epithelial layer), MCA (mucous cell appearance) & CCA (club cell appearance) DLA (dermal layer appearance), and SEL (startification of epidermal layer) stages. Gill development had five stages: GFA (gill filament appearance), IGFE (identification of early gill filament epithelial cell) MCA (mucous cell appearance), PCA (pillar cell appearance), and FGL (formation of gill lamella) stages. The periods of structural completion of skin and gill were 22-30 days and 23-30 days after hatching in the exposure group respectively. The process of development of skin and gill of the exposure group was very similar to that of the control group. Therefore, PCBs (3 ${\mu}g/L$) have no influence on the development of skin and gill in the larval stage of olive flounder.

Atmospheric levels of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) at the King Sejong station were monitored for one year using passive air samplers. Low-chlorinated PCB homologues were predominant in all samples. PCB levels were observed to decrease with distance from the station, which may indicate that a significant part of PCBs could be of local origin. Although the level of PCBs at the King Sejong station is very low (${\Sigma}_9PCB$ (18, 52, 101, 118, 128, 138, 153, 180, 187): $2.3\;pg\;m^{-3}$) probably due to decrease in the global PCB emissions, it is one order of magnitude higher than a background level in the Antarctic. Based on this preliminary study, more interpretation on PCB data and meteorological conditions is required.

일본 관동지역을 대상으로 PCBs의 대기 중 거동을 해석하기 위해 단일 구획상자모델을 사용하였으며, 대기 중 기온과 PCBs의 각 동족체의 거동사이의 관계를 시뮬레이션하였다. 또한 모델을 이용하여 대상 지역에 있어서의 PCBs의 년간 배출량과 침적량을 추산하였으며, 년간 배출량은 3,320 kg, 년간 침적량은 1,480 kg으로 예측되었다. 대기 중 PCBs의 제거기작(이류, 건성-습성 침적 및 반응) 중 이류의 기여는 전체의 약 $20{\sim}38%$로 나타났으며, OH라디칼 반응에 의한 감소는 무시할 정도로 작았다. 본 연구에서 사용한 단일 구획상자모델이 대기 중 PCBs의 거동을 이해하는데 활용될 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were measured in soil samples of Ansung in Kyonggi-province to investigate concentration distribution of PBDEs and PCBs. The 10 soil samples were collected using a stainless steel hand-held corer that was cleaned before and after each sample using hexane. Total concentration of PBDE and PCBs were 2,205.3 and 348.1 pg/g dry weight (DW) in soil sample, respectively. BDE-209 showed as the most abundant congener in soil samples which was related to imported amount and usage amount of deca-BDE technical mixture in Korea. Also, BDE-99, BDE-47, BDE-100 deposition in soil sample was higher than other congeners and was related to the imported and usage amount reported for penta-BDE technical mixture in Korea. Correlation coefficient between PBDE contribution and technical mixture formulation (Bromokal 70-5DE) were significant (r=0.91, p<0.01) which suggests the influence of sources in this technical mixtures.

본 연구에서는 전력 산업에서 발생하는 폐기물 중의 하나인 Poly Chlorinated Biphenyls(PCBs)를 함유한 절연유를 초임계수 내에서 완전산화반응을 통해서 제거하는 전산모사를 수행하였다. 절연유의 주성분을 노말 데칸으로 선정하였으며, 초임계수 내의 절연유의 함량은 3.0 wt％로 가정하였다. 초임계수 내에서의 물성 추산을 위해서 Peng-Robinson 상태방정식을 사용하였으며, 전산모사를 통해서 초임계수 내에서 3.0 wt％의 절연유 및 과잉 산소가 모두 용해되는 현상을 잘 설명할 수 있었다.

PCBs(Polychlorinated Biphenyls)와 같은 미량 환경독성물질은 그 독성으로 인하여 지난 수십년간 환경 분야에서 중요한 연구분야가 되어왔으며 이에 대한 연구의 중요성이 최근의 내분비계 교란물질의 심각성으로 더욱 부각되고 있다. 특히 이 분야의 연구에서는 실제 측정을 통한 자료가 국내의 경우 분석과 측정의 어려움으로 인하여 거의 전무하다고 할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 대기-수체간의 PCBs 거동 특성을 실제 측정을 통하여 파악하기 위해 PCBs의 입자상 건식침적량을 측정하였다.(중략)

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are persistent environmental contaminants that elicit a broad spectrum of toxic effects in mammals and other vertebrate species. Because of their lipophilicity, chemical stability and resistance to biodegradation, PCBs tend to accumulate in the human body via food chain and environmental matrices including human adipose tissues, blood and milk.(omitted)

This paper describes a simple procedure for the quantitative analysis of 7 PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) in soils on the waste reclaimed land, The procedure involved sample clean up using silicagel column, acetonitrile partition and sulfuric acid procedures. The instrumental technique is applied GC/PDD(gas chromatography/pulsed discharge detector) and GC/ECD(gas chromatography/electron capture detector). Concentration of $sub-{\mu}g/g$ level was attainable with 20g soils on the waste reclaimed land.

Concentrations of dioxins, furans and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (DL-PCBs) were determined in crucian carp collected from eight locations mainly along the Nakdong River during 2004. Total dioxin concentrations which include concentrations of dioxins, furans and DL-PCBs ranged from 0.053 to 0.614 pg WHO-TEQ $g^{-1}$ wet wt. with a mean of $0.342{\pm}0.213$ pg WHO-TEQ $g^{-1}$ wet wt. The proportions of dioxins, furans and DL-PCBs to total dioxin TEQ were 4%, 12% and 84%, respectively. The results suggest that concentrations of dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls should be determined when total dioxin TEQ accumulated in freshwater fish is investigated.

This study was performed to find the atmospheric concentrations of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) at four different heights (l0, 50, 150 and 1,500 cm) using low volume polyurethane foam (PUF) plug air sampler in semi-rural area. ${\alpha}-/{\beta}-/{\gamma}-HCH$ with low molecular weights and Koa (octanol-air partitioning coefficient) in OCPs were similarly high concentrations at all heights, but the other OCPs (p,p'-DDE, p,p'-DDD, p,p'-DDT, Heptachlor epoxide, ${\gamma}$-CHL, ${\alpha}$-CHL, Trans-nonachlor) with high molecular weights and Koa decreased with increasing heights. However, the concentrations of PCBs increased with increasing height.
