포장상태 예측방법 개선에 관한 연구 (Development of Prediction Method for Highway Pavement Condition)

  • 포장상태 예측은 의사결정과정에서 포장의 공용성능을 평가하고 사업대상구간의 우선순위를 선정하기 위한 적정한 정보를 제공해준다. 근래들어 현재의 포장상태가 장래에 어느 정도 저하되는지를 예측하려는 많은 접근이 있었으나 포장의 서비스수명을 적정히 예측하는 데에는 한계를 보여왔다. 본 논문에서는 포장상태 예측방법을 개선하기 위하여 포장상태 공용성모형과 포장상태 예측모형을 개발하였다. 공용성 모형은 실제 포장상태 분석결과를 회귀분석하여 포장의 종류별, 교통량별로 백분위 50%, 25%, 15%, 5%의 확률분포 모형을 도출한 것이다. 예측모형은 앞서 도출된 공용성모형 모형식을 기준으로 하여 대상구간 각각의 포장상태 측정값에 의해 포장상태 확률을 결정한다. 개발된 예측모형의 검증을 위하여 비교대상구간을 선정하였고, HPCI의 평균값 표준편차, 3.0이하 비율을 비교분석하였다. 이를 통하여 기존예측모형이 안고 있는 교통량, 재령, 현재 포장 상태를 고려하여 보다 현실에 부합되는 포장상태를 예측하는 방법을 제공하고자 한다.

Multiple Regression Technique for Productivity Analysis of the Jointed Plane Concrete Pavement (JPCP)

  • In highway construction projects, concrete pavement productivity has been challenged with constructors and decision-makers; at present there are few methods available to accurately evaluate the factors impacting on it. Any inefficient method to analyze it leads to the excessive schedule, higher rehabilitation costs, shorter service life, and reduction of ride quality. To implement these negative outcomes, constructors or decision-makers need a systematic tool that can be used to categorize the factors related to construction productivity. This paper applies multiple regression technique for productivity analysis of the Jointed Plane Concrete Pavement (JPCP), identifies the significant factors, and provides a predictive model assisting in monitoring and managing the productivity of the JPCP construction process. The completed and progressive projects are employed to derive and assess the proposed model. The results are analyzed to illustrate its capabilities.

  • In the recent years, a rigid pavement composed of a flat concrete slab has ken constructed due to the desirable structural strength of concrete, durability and economy. However, despite of precise design and construction of concrete highway pavement, some sections of the 88 Olympic express highway, Jung-bu express highway, and Kyung-bu express highway, which have shown premature cracking, faulting, and pumping before the end of their intended service life, have already been viewed with great concerns by highway officials and engineers. Since environmental variations and traffic loads might be considered as major factors to cause pavement failure problems, the thermal load due to temperature variations between top and bottom surface of the concrete slab was highlighted to verify analytical behavior of concrete slab using the finite element method.

성능보증제도를 적용한 일반국도 유지보수공사 시범사업 (Case Studies of a Performance-Based Contract for National Highway Pavement Maintenance)

  • PURPOSES : Case studies of an asphalt-overlay project with a performance-based contract method were conducted on a national highway in Korea to evaluate the effect of the method on asphalt pavement maintenance. This study evaluated the procedure of the performance-based contract method. METHODS : In this study, an asphalt-pavement maintenance project for a national highway was assessed with a performance-based contract to investigate the advantage of the new contract procedures. This is the first trial applying the performance-based contract to a pavement-rehabilitation project in Korea. In the four case studies, the warranty period of the performance-based contract was designed for seven years. The research team monitored the construction site to compare the normal contract method with the performance-based contract method. The case studies' project sites were investigated after the end of the construction. RESULTS : Based on the limited case studies, the performance-based contract method could extend the service life of the asphalt pavement and reduce the pavement-maintenance budget because the quality control was well managed by the contractors. However, a few construction laws would be necessary to apply the performance-based contract method in the future. CONCLUSIONS : Using the performance-based contract, the construction company made great efforts to guarantee the warranty period and to apply the optimal maintenance method, based on the pavement distress condition. The contractor and the agency would need to understand the new performance-based contract system for it to be activated. Therefore, a proper education program for the performance-based contract system would be needed to educate the stakeholders regarding the procedures and their effects on the pavement management and maintenance.

아스팔트콘크리트 포장의 노면 미끄럼 저항성 평가 (An Evaluation of Skid Resistance Properties of Asphalt Concrete Pavement)

  • 노면의 미끄럼 저항성은 교통안전과 직결되는 도로 포장의 중요한 특성이다. 특히 우천 시 차량의 미끄러짐에 의한 교통사고를 줄이기 위해서는 도로의 성능 평가 시 반드시 고려해야 할 사항이다. 또한 자동차의 성능이 개선되고 운전자의 연령이 상대적으로 낮아짐으로써 고속주행을 하거나 급제동을 하는 운전 행태가 증가함에 따라 포장의 미끄럼저항성 역시 개선할 필요성이 더욱 증가하게 되었다. 그러므로 교통사고를 줄이기 위해서는 노면의 미끄럼저항성 시험을 통해 포장의 품질을 검증하고 또 향상시켜야 한다. 본 연구에서는 미끄럼 포장의 품질을 검증하기 위한 방법으로 휴대용 미끄럼저항 시험기 및 자동식 미끄럼저항 측정 장비의 측정원리를 분석하여 실제 포장변에 대하여 미끄럼 저항성을 평가하도록 하였다. 일반 밀입도 포장, 배수성 포장, SMA 포장에 실시한 미끄럼 저항성 평가는 배수성 포장과 SMA 포장의 노후화에 따라 일반 밀입도 포장의 미끄럼 저항성이 가장 크게 나타났다.

  • PURPOSES: This study is to investigate the mechanical performance of the fiber reinforced lean concrete with respect to different types of fibers. METHODS: Increased vehicle weight and other causes from the exposed conditions have accelerated the deteriorations of road pavement. A new multi-functional composite pavement system is being developed recently in order to extend service life and upgrade the pavement. A variety of tests were conducted before and after hardening of the concrete. RESULTS: From the test results, it was found that the use of different types of fibers did not affect the compressive strength development. This might be due to the inherent property of the lean concrete. When steel fibers were used relatively greater flexural strength and flexural fracture toughness were developed. Also addition of fly ash by replacing a part of Portland cement the fracture toughness was slightly increased. CONCLUSIONS: It has been known that the addition of fibers and use of mineral admixture can be positively considered in the development of multi-functional composite pavement system as its required mechanical performance is obtained.

Behavior of Joint Panel of Precast Prestressed Concrete Pavement System with Different Design Details

  • From the extensive review of literature on existing precast prestressed concrete pavement (PPCP) systems, an innovative PPCP system has been developed. After the analysis and design, the sample system has been built and experimented under service loads and the defects of the system has been noted. Further study has been done to improve the performance of the defects. The appeared cracks around post-tensioning pockets was a crucial problem which needed to be solved in order to satisfy the service life of the system without any doubt. In this paper, different shape and arrangement of the post-tensioning pockets in the joint panel has been designed and analysed in order to find best performance for the system.

도로 차선 재료의 공용수명 예측방법 (Methodology to Predict Service Lives of Pavement Marking Materials)

  • 차선의 밝기를 나타내는 반사성능은 교통량, 도색 후 경과시간, 차선재료, 색상 등에 따라 지역별로 차이가 발생한다. 본 연구에서는 고속도로에서 조사된 차선 성능의 자료를 바탕으로 교통량과 차선의 공용수명을 독립변수로 하고 차선의 성능을 종속변수로 하는 회귀식을 산정하였다. 전국의 고속도로를 대상으로 모바일 차선반사 성능 차량을 사용하여 $2005{\sim}2006$년의 2년동안 3개월 간격으로 차선의 성능을 추적 조사하였다. 축적된 DB에는 차선의 성능뿐 아니라 차선의 재료, 색상, 기하구조, 교통량, 도색시기 등이 포함되어 있다. 본 연구에서 추적 조사된 차선성능을 기초로하여 다양한 환경에서의 차선재료의 성능을 비교 분석하여 여러 인자에 의한 차선성능 곡선을 도출하였다. 차선성능 곡선을 통해 지역별 교통량과 도색 이후의 시간의 경과에 따른 차선의 성능을 예측할 수 있었다. 선형함수, 로그함수, 지수함수, 음지수함수 등을 이용하여 차선의 성능을 나타내는 회귀식과 변동을 추정한 후, 결정계수가 가장 높고, 현장측정치와 가장 유사한 모형을 차선의 성능 예측모형으로 결정하였다. 현장조사 결과와의 검증결과, 차선성능 예측 모델은 90% 신뢰도에서 유의함을 볼 수 있었고, 특히 누적 교통량의 증가에 따라 현장 데이터와 높은 연관성을 보여주었다. 따라서 본 방법론에 의한 차선수명 예측 모델을 통해 차선의 공용수명과 잔존수명을 예측하여 도색시기를 결정할 수 있다.

Temperature Reduction of Concrete Pavement Using Glass Bead Materials

  • In this study, different proportions of glass beads used for road marking were added into the concrete samples to reduce the temperature gradient through the concrete pavement thickness. It is well known that decreasing the temperature gradient reduces the risk of thermal cracking and increases the service life of concrete pavement. The extent of alkali-silica reaction (ASR) produced with partial replacement of fine aggregate by glass bead was investigated and compressive strength of concrete samples with different proportion of glass bead in their mix designs were measured in this study. Ideal results were obtained with less than 0.850 mm diameter size glass beads were used (19 % by total weight of aggregate) for C30/37 class concrete. Top and bottom surface temperatures of two different C30/37 strength class concrete slabs with and without glass beads were measured. It was identified that, using glass bead in concrete mix design, reduces the temperature differences between top and bottom surfaces of concrete pavement. The study presented herein provides important results on the necessity of regulating concrete road mix design specifications according to regions and climates to reduce the temperature gradient values which are very important in concrete road design.

지오그리드로 보강된 투수성 연성포장 보조기층제 영구변형을 고려한 층두께 산정 비교 연구 (Evaluation of Geogrid-Reinforced Subbase Layer Thickness of Permeable Flexible Pavements based on Permanent Deformation Model)

  • PURPOSES : The objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a geogrid reinforced subbase of permeable flexible pavement structures with respect to permanent deformation. METHODS : Experimental trials employing a repeated triaxial load test scheme were conducted for both a geogrid reinforced subbase material and a control specimen to obtain the permanent deformation properties based on the VESYS model. Along with this, a finite element-based numerical analysis was conducted to predict pavement performance with respect to the rutting model incorporated into the analysis. RESULTSAND CONCLUSIONS : The results of the experimental study reveal that the geogrid reinforcement seems to be effective in mitigating permanent deformation of the subbase material. The permanent deformation was mostly achieved in the early stages of loading and then rapidly reached equilibrium as the number of load applications increased. The ultimate permanent deformation due to the geogrid reinforcement was about 1.5 times less than that of the control specimen. Numerical analysis showed that the permeable, flexible pavement structure with the geogrid reinforced subbase also exhibits less development of rutting throughout the service life. This reduction in rutting led to a 20% decrease in thickness of the subbase layer, which might be beneficial to reduce construction costs unless the structural adequacy is not ensured. In the near future, further verification must be conducted, both experimentally and numerically, to support these findings.
