  • The EJB 3.0 specifications, which were improved in terms of performance and ease of development, were recently announced. Accordingly, for the EJB 3.0 application environment, developers generally prefer the gradual transformation of components whose performance must be improved to the complete transformation of all the EJB 2.1 components into EJB 3.0 components. Previous studies, however, did not consider the service of the application and did not ensure the compatibility and reusability of the components in the full replacement of EJB 3.0 due to the transformation using different specifications. This study proposed three transformation techniques that consider the service supported in the existing application, wherein the compatibility and reusability of the components are ensured in the case of the full replacement of EJB 3.0. The proposed transformation techniques are techniques for gradual transformation, such as direct transformation that directly connects components, indirect transformation that uses the EJB connector, and indirect template transformation wherein the template pattern is applied to the indirect transformation. The proposed transformation techniques were verified by comparing the reusability and processing capability of the components per second, and the standards for selecting a technique were provided based on the characteristics of the transformation into EJB 3.0 that were found in this study.

  • This paper explores the process of pattern recognition reflected in Newman's praxis methodology by three Korean elderly people with chronic illnesses. Four core themes demonstrated from the life pattern of participants that discouragement/frustration, regret, deep grudge/ pent up feeling and renunciation/ resignation were prevalent. None of the participants had experienced the turning point central to the process of expanding consciousness. It was concluded that it requires longer a research period with repeated in-depth interviews to explore the transformation in the process of recognizing a pattern of life.

  • Studies on the flow pattern due to reclamation in the Myunggi-Nocksan region are carried out based on field observations and numerical experiments. Serial time series measurement of current, temperature and salinity were conducted for 1 tidal period at intervals of 1 hour from surface to bottom on station located at 128.deg. 54' 44" E, 35.deg. 01' 04" N in April and June 1992. Surface current opposite to the subsurface current causes turbulent mixing to make homogeneous salinity pattern in vertical section. Reclamation has little effect on the wave pattern and flow patterns are also nearly similar except on the nearby region of reclamation where flow speed somewhat weakened.

  • We propose an automatic inspection system for hologram with multiple patterns. The system hardware consists of illuminations, camera, and vision processor. Multiple illuminations using LEDs are arranged in different directions to acquire each image of patterns. The system software consists of pre-processing, pattern generation, and pattern matching. The acquired images of input hologram are compared with their reference patterns by developed matching algorithm. To compensate for the positioning error of input hologram, reference patterns of hologram for different position should be generated in on-line. We apply a frequency transformation based CGH(computer-generated hologram) method to generate reference images. For the fast pattern matching, we also apply the matching method in the frequency domain. Experimental results for hologram of Korean currency are then presented to verify the usefulness of proposed system.

  • A modified Karhunen-Loeve transformation technique using normalization and simultaneous diagonalization of two sample covariance matrices is proposed to separate the object from the background. The transformation technique for the separation of local data structure through maximizing the ratio of sample variances between two classes was identified as a promising one for a preprocessing of multi-variate signal processing algorithms using neighborhood operators including morphological filtering. To relate the separation quality of the proposed technique to a morphological measure, average height was defined by using morphological pattern spectrum. A practical implementation of the transformation technique was tested experimentally and the theoretical results were confirmed.

  • Compositional data found in many practical applications consist of non-negative vectors of proportions with the constraint which the sum of the elements of each vector is unity. It is well-known that the statistical analysis of compositional data suffers from the unit-sum constraint. Moreover, the non-linear pattern frequently displayed by the data does not facilitate the application of the linear multivariate techniques such as principal component analysis. In this paper we develop new type of principal component analysis for compositional data using Box-Cox contrast transformation. Numerical illustrations are provided for comparative purpose.

  • The mismatched allocation of watermarking position due to parallel translation, rotation, and scaling distortion is a problem that requires an answer in watermarking. In this paper, we propose a watermarking method robust enough to hold against geometrical distorting using restoration pattern matching. The proposed method defines restoration pattern, then inserts the pattern to a watermark embedded image for distribution. Geometrical distortion is verified by comparing restoration pattern extracted from distributed image and the original restoration pattern inserted to the image. If geometrical distortion is found, inverse transformation is equally performed to synchronize the watermark insertion and extraction position. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, experiments in translation, rotation, and scaling attack are performed.

  • Different proliferation of neuroblast 6-4 (NB6-4) in the thorax and abdomen produces segmental specific expression pattern of several neuroblast marker genes. NB6-4 is divided to form four medialmost cell body glia (MM-CBG) per segment in thorax and two MM-CBG per segment in abdomen. As homeotic genes determine the identities of embryonic segments along the A/P axis, we investigated if temporal and specific expression of homeotic genes affects MM-CBG patterns in thorax and abdomen. A Ubx loss-of-function mutation was found to hardly affect MM-CBG formation, whereas abd-A and Abd-B caused the transformation of abdominal MM-CBG to their thoracic counterparts. On the other hand, gain-of-function mutants of Ubx, abd-A and Abd-B genes reduced the number of thoracic MM-CBG, indicating that thoracic MM-CBG resembled abdominal MM-CBG. However, mutations in Polycomb group (PcG) genes, which are negative transregulators of homeotic genes, did not cause the thoracic to abdominal MM-CBG pattern transformation although the number of MM-CBG in a few percent of embryos were partially reduced or abnormally patterned. Our results indicate that temporal and spatial expression of the homeotic genes is important to determine segmental-specificity of NB6-4 daughter cells along the anterior-posterior (A/P) axis.
