The Comparative Analysis on Performance of the Patrol Division System (순찰지구대 운영성과에 대한 지역경찰의 인식분석)

  • This study aims to empirically analyze the police officers' recognition on performance of the patrol division system. For this purpose. Firstly, the study discusses the theoretical aspects of the patrol division system and its performance. Secondly, the analytical framework is formulated based on three levels developed for performance of the patrol division system such as efficiency of the patrol division system, partnership between police and citizen, and police officers' job satisfaction. The major findings of this study could be summarized as follows; Firstly, The level of the efficiency is below the average in all factors. Secondly, In relation to partnership between police and citizen is below the average in the level of the citizens' preference and partnership. Thirdly, the level of job satisfaction is normal. Fourthly, compared in the level of the areas, there is a difference in the recognition on four factors in efficiency and three factors in partnership. Finally, the direction of raising the level of performance of the patrol division system is explored.

A Study on the Development of an Oil Sweep System for Small Patrol Vessels (소형 경비함정 장착용 유흡착장비 개발에 관한 연구)

  • Due to limitations in responding to oil spill incidents that are urgent or that cover a wide area with only oil spill response vessels, Korea Coast Guard (KCG) patrol vessels are utilized. In this study, we have developed an oil sweep system suitable for small patrol vessels. The equipment consists of three components - fixed support, poles, and slide fixers - and can be fastened with a toggle pin to a fall prevention bar on small patrol vessels without welding or additional efforts for installation. The respective weights of each component - fixed support, poles (2 pcs), and slide fixers (4 pcs) - are approximately 9.2 kg, 6.5 kg, and 3.5 kg. The 3 m-pole, which is rotatable 180 degrees horizontally, is folded deckward when replacing oil absorbents. As the development of this equipment has improved the method of deploying and retrieving oil absorbents on KCG small patrol vessels, we expect that more efficient oil spill cleanup will be possible.

  • Trend of wire internet has been transferred to wireless internet gradually due to the spread of mobile phone which made Possible Mobility and portability which wire internet could not afford. Not only front line of business part can access business information but also people can use government information for their daily life without limit of place. The frequent report of larceny and misuse of information has been issued to social sector that the need for IDS considering wire wireless internet. In this paper to design IDS to protect information first, searched wire internet intrusion type, intrusion detection method, and wireless intrusion type. In this paper, first, separate abnormal access at the point of system landing and detect intrusion attack with disguise through mobile wireless internet. Due to the intruder can access system normally with disguise, Circuit Patrol model has been suggested to monitor from intrusion attack.

  • Industry 5.0 puts forward higher requirements for smart cities, including low-carbon, sustainable, and people-oriented, which pose challenges to the design of smart cities. In response to the above challenges, this study introduces the cyber-physical-social system (CPSS) and parallel system theory into the design of smart cities, and constructs a smart city framework based on parallel system theory. On this basis, in order to enhance the security of smart cities, a sustainable patrol subsystem for smart cities has been established. The intelligent patrol system uses a drone platform, and the trajectory planning of the drone is a key problem that needs to be solved. Therefore, a mathematical model was established that considers various objectives, including minimizing carbon emissions, minimizing noise impact, and maximizing coverage area, while also taking into account the flight performance constraints of drones. In addition, an improved metaheuristic algorithm based on ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm was designed for trajectory planning of patrol drones. Finally, a digital environmental map was established based on real urban scenes and simulation experiments were conducted. The results show that compared with the other three metaheuristic algorithms, the algorithm designed in this study has the best performance.

  • Unmanned patrol robots are currently being developed for autonomous data survey in construction sites. As the amount of data acquired by robots increases, it is important to utilize proper metadata and system to manage data flow. In this study, we developed three materials, metadata design, robot system and web system, in the purpose of automating construction site data survey using unmanned patrol robots. The metadata was mainly designed to represent when and where raw data was acquired. To identify the location of data acquired, localization data from SLAM algorithm was converted to suit the construction drawings. The robot system and web system were developed to generate, store and parse the raw data and metadata automatically. The materials developed in this study was adopted to Boston Dynamics SPOT, a quadruped robot. Autonomous data survey of 360-picture and environment sensor was tested in two construction sites and the robot worked as intended. As a further study, development on the autonomous data survey to improve the convenience and productivity will be continued.

  • Recently, there are many real life applications that uses drones. There are various applications such as the aerial shot with the drones for the broadcasting service or drone racing competition and so on. Specifically, they patrol for the traffic enforcement on a highway. The police department use the 'Spot Mobility' method which float the drones for 30 minute period. However, this method is inefficient for the wide area with small numbers of enforcement. Therefore, a wireless network system consists of drones to patrol on the highway systematically is required. In this paper, the most efficient routing protocol will be selected for the MANET drone network by applying various routing protocols. To accomplish this, the drone patrol network system with routing protocols are designed and simulated in OPNET simulator.

  • Since year 2016, in Korea, the police department started to use drones to patrol violated vehicles on the highway area. They monitor vehicle drivers who use side ways on the highway during traffic congested hours of the season, drunken drivers, or violent drivers. They use the 'Spot Mobility' method which floats the drones for 30 minute period. However, this method is inefficient since it requires manually charging batteries, gathering data, and operate drones with many numbers of policeman. Therefore, in this paper, for the efficient patrol in this purpose, I have suggested an effectively manageable network system consists of many drones as the wireless network nodes and with small numbers of policeman in a wide highway area. To accomplish this, the two topologies of effective drone patrol network systems are designed and simulated in OPNET simulator for performance evaluation.

User Acceptance of a Light-Emitting Diode Vest for Police Officer

  • This study aims to suggest practical considerations for designing protective clothing with increased visibility that will have higher user acceptance by law enforcement officers. Light-emitting diode(LED) patrol vests were visually and structurally assessed, and 125 police officers' responses from surveys about user acceptance of the vest were analyzed. The current LED patrol vest was designed for enhanced safety of police officers by increasing visibility in the dark. However, the user acceptance rate of the LED patrol vest indicates low use of and low satisfaction with the vest despite its enhanced safety features. In particular, differences in materials, design, functionality of the pockets and size of the vest depending on the hours worked, were statistically significant. The police officers' responses suggest areas of improvement in design, materials, ease of movement, size and functionality. Key issues include 'tactile discomfort'; 'impeded vision from the glare of the LED'; 'frequent malfunctions of the LED'; 'impossible repair of the broken LED units'; 'no user feedback'; 'inconvenient to replace batteries'; 'brittle materials' and 'unpleasing look'. To increase user acceptance, designer should incorporate context-awareness, a convenient user interface, a modular design approach, first responders' self-image as public servants in relation to their aesthetic perspectives of their uniforms, and scientific evaluation of the effectiveness of the intended functions of the clothing. Suggested implications for designing the LED patrol vest can be applied to designing other functional/protective clothing for intended end users with special needs.

A Study for Increasing the Safety of Gun Firing System of Patrol Killer Guided Missile from Failure Mode Analysis (고장 사례분석을 통한 유도탄고속함 함포체계 사격안전성 개선방안 연구)

  • This study aims to the increasing the reliability of gun firing system of patrol killer guided missile from failure mode analysis. In order to find out the breakdown parameter, the examination process of the sources of the problems and the quality improvement activities are analyzed with performance testing data. From this study, the rate of operation and the reliability of 76 mm naval guns will be increase. And the result of the study is expected to be used as a reference data in the naval gun firing system for another failure mode analysis.
