  • In this paper, we obtained the path loss characteristics in the 850 MHz for Russia area by using the free space path loss model and Okumura-Hata path loss model. In order to extract the additional path loss model parameter from the new Russian regional properties, the mean square error technique is used to obtain the correction factor. According to the obtained correction factor, the differences for the free space and Hata path loss model are 17, 6 dB in the 5 ~ 10 Km, 28, 14 dB in the 10 ~ 15 Km, and 35, 18 dB in the 15 ~ 20 Km. By applying the correction factors, the appropriate partial path loss models for the measured Russain area are proposed.

  • In this paper we deal with tool interference problem in the case of compound surface machining. A new tool interference detection and correction method based on the envelope of the tool path is suggested to identify and correct the tool interference - not only within the local path of tool movement, but also outside of the tool path. Therefore, the developed strategy can be used to check the possible interference in any region of the surface. In order to analyze quantitatively the milled surface error produced by the tool interference, improved surface prediction model is also suggested in cutting process by general cutters. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through simulation study.

  • In this paper, we propose the adaptation filtering for correcting the movement path of the recognized object by the depth information. When we recognize the object by the depth information, the path error should be occurred because of the noises in the depth information. The path error is corrected by appling the lowpass filtering, but the lowpass filtering is not efficient when the changes of the object's movement are rapid. In this paper, we apply the adaptation filtering that it gives weights adaptively as the difference between the predicted location and the measured location. To apply the adaptation filtering, we can see that the proposed method can correct accurately the path error of the radical change from simulation results.

  • Conventional path tracking methods designed for two-wheeled differential drive robots are not suitable for omni-directional robots. In this study, we present a controller which can accomplish more accurate path tracking and orientation correction by exploiting the unconstrained movement capability of omni-directional robots. The proposed controller is proven to be stable using a Lyapunov stability criterion. Various experiments in real environments show that performance of path tracking and orientation correction has improved in the proposed controller.

  • Atmospheric correction of Landsat Visible and Near Infrared imagery (VIS/NIR) over aquatic environment is more demanding than over land because the signal from the water column is small and it carries immense information about biogeochemical variables in the ocean. This paper introduces two methods, a modified dark-pixel substraction technique (path--extraction) and our spectral shape matching method (SSMM), for the correction of the atmospheric effects in the Landsat VIS/NIR imagery in relation to the retrieval of meaningful information about the ocean color, especially from Case-2 waters (Morel and Prieur, 1977) around Korean peninsula. The results of these methods are compared with the classical atmospheric correction approaches based on the 6S radiative transfer model and standard SeaWiFS atmospheric algorithm. The atmospheric correction scheme using 6S radiative transfer code assumes a standard atmosphere with constant aerosol loading and a uniform, Lambertian surface, while the path-extraction assumes that the total radiance (L/sub TOA/) of a pixel of the black ocean (referred by Antoine and Morel, 1999) in a given image is considered as the path signal, which remains constant over, at least, the sub scene of Landsat VIS/NIR imagery. The assumption of SSMM is nearly similar, but it extracts the path signal from the L/sub TOA/ by matching-up the in-situ data of water-leaving radiance, for typical clear and turbid waters, and extrapolate it to be the spatially homogeneous contribution of the scattered signal after complex interaction of light with atmospheric aerosols and Raleigh particles, and direct reflection of light on the sea surface. The overall shape and magnitude of radiance or reflectance spectra of the atmospherically corrected Landsat VIS/NIR imagery by SSMM appears to have good agreement with the in-situ spectra collected for clear and turbid waters, while path-extraction over turbid waters though often reproduces in-situ spectra, but yields significant errors for clear waters due to the invalid assumption of zero water-leaving radiance for the black ocean pixels. Because of the standard atmosphere with constant aerosols and models adopted in 6S radiative transfer code, a large error is possible between the retrieved and in-situ spectra. The efficiency of spectral shape matching has also been explored, using SeaWiFS imagery for turbid waters and compared with that of the standard SeaWiFS atmospheric correction algorithm, which falls in highly turbid waters, due to the assumption that values of water-leaving radiance in the two NIR bands are negligible to enable retrieval of aerosol reflectance in the correction of ocean color imagery. Validation suggests that accurate the retrieval of water-leaving radiance is not feasible with the invalid assumption of the classical algorithms, but is feasible with SSMM.

  • The ocean signal that reaches the detector of an imaging system after multiple interactions with the atmospheric molecules and aerosols was retrieved from the total signal recorded at the top of the atmosphere (TOA). A simple method referred to as 'Path Extraction' applied to the Landsat-TM ocean imagery of turbid coastal water was compared with the conventional dark-pixel subtraction technique. The shape of the path-extracted water-leaving radiance spectrum resembled the radiance spectrum measured in-situ. The path-extraction was also extended to the SeaWiFS ocean color imagery and compared with the standard SeaWiFS atmospheric correction algorithm, which relays on the assumption of zero water leaving radiance at the two NIR wavebands (765 and 865nm). The path-extracted water-leaving radiance was good agreement with the measured radiance spectrum. In contrast, the standard SeaWiFS atmospheric correction algorithm led to essential underestimation of the water-leaving radiance in the blue-green part of the spectrum. The reason is that the assumption of zero water-leaving radiance at 755 and 865nm fails due to backscattering by suspended mineral particles. Therefore, the near infrared channels 765 and 865nm used fur deriving the aerosol information are no longer valid for turbid coastal waters. The path-extraction is identified as a simple and efficient method of extracting the path radiance largely introduced due to light interaction through the complex atmosphere carried several aerosol and gaseous components and at the air-sea interface.interface.

  • In u-healthcare services based on wireless body sensor networks, reliable connection is very important as many types of information, including vital signals, are transmitted through the networks. The transmit power requirements are very stringent in the case of in-body networks for implant communication. Furthermore, the wireless link in an in-body environment has a high degree of path loss (e.g., the path loss exponent is around 6.2 for deep tissue). Because of such inherently bad settings of the communication nodes, a multi-hop network topology is preferred in order to meet the transmit power requirements and to increase the battery lifetime of sensor nodes. This will ensure that the live body of a patient receiving the healthcare service has a reduced level of specific absorption ratio (SAR) when exposed to long-lasting radiation. We propose an efficientmethod for delivering delay-intolerant data packets over multiple hops. We consider forward error correction (FEC) in an erasure correction mode and develop a mathematical formulation for packet-level scheduling of delay-intolerant FEC packets over multiple hops. The proposed method can be used as a simple guideline for applications to setting up a topology for a medical body sensor network of each individual patient, which is connected to a remote server for u-healthcare service applications.

  • To enhance the acceleration performance and fuel consumption rate of a vehicle, the torque converter is modified or newly-developed with reliable analysis model. Up to recently, the one dimensional performance model has been used for the analysis and design of torque converter. The model is described with constant parameters based on the concept of mean flow path. When it is used in practice, some experiential correction factors are needed to minimize tole estimated error. These factors have poor physical meaning and cannot be applied confidently to the other specification of torque converter. In this study, the detail dynamic model of torque converter is presented to establish the physical meaning of correction factors. To verify the validity of model, performance test was carried out with various input speed and oil temperature. The effect of oil temperature on the performance is analysed, and it is applied to the dynamic model. And, to obtain the internal flow pattern of torque converter, CFD(Computational Fluid Dyanmics) analysis is carried out on three-dimensional turbulent flow. Correction factors are determined from the internal flow pattern, and their variation is presented with the speed ratio of torque converter. Finally, the sensitivity of correction factors to the speed ratio is studied for the case of changing capacity factor with maintaining torque ratio.
