This paper proposes a CSG-based representation scheme for heterogeneous objects including multi-material objects and Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs). In particular, this scheme focuses on the construction of complicated heterogeneous objects guaranteeing desired material continuities at all the interfaces. In order to create various types of heterogeneous primitives, we first describe methods for specifying material composition functions such as geometry-independent, geometry-dependent functions. Constructive Material Composition (CMC) and corresponding heterogeneous Boolean Operators (e.g. material union, difference, intersection. and partition) are then proposed to illustrate how material continuities are dealt with. Finally, we describe the model hierarchy and data structure for computer representation. Even though the proposed scheme alone is sufficient for modeling all sorts of heterogeneous objects, the proposed scheme adopts a hybrid representation between CSG and decomposition. That is because hybrid representation can avoid the unnecessary growth of binary trees.

A generalized tiling is defined as a generalization of the properties of tiling a region of ${\mathbb{Z}}^2$ with dominoes, and comprises tiling with rhombus and any other tilings that admits height functions which can be ordered into a distributive lattice. By using properties of the distributive lattice, we prove that the Markov chain consisting of moving from one height function to the next by a flip is fast mixing and the mixing time ${\tau}({\epsilon})$ is given by ${\tau}({\epsilon}){\leq}(kmn)^3(mn\;{\ln}\;k+{\ln}\;{\epsilon}^{-1})$, where mn is the area of the grid ${\Gamma}$ that is a k-regular polycell. This result generalizes the result of the authors (T-tetromino tiling Markov chain is fast mixing, Theor. Comp. Sci. (2018)) and improves on the mixing time obtained by using coupling arguments by N. Destainville and by M. Luby, D. Randall, A. Sinclair.

This paper proposes an image segmentation framework that modifies the objective function of Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) to improve the performance and computational efficiency of the conventional FCM-based image segmentation. The proposed image segmentation framework includes a locally weighted fuzzy c-means (LWFCM) algorithm that takes into account the influence of neighboring pixels on the center pixel by assigning weights to the neighbors. Distance between a center pixel and a neighboring pixels are calculated within a window and these are basis for determining weights to indicate the importance of the memberships as well as to improve the clustering performance. We analyzed the segmentation performance of the proposed method by utilizing four eminent cluster validity functions such as partition coefficient ($V_{pc}$), partition entropy ($V_{pe}$), Xie-Bdni function ($V_{xb}$) and Fukuyama-Sugeno function ($V_{fs}$). Experimental results show that the proposed LWFCM outperforms other FCM algorithms (FCM, modified FCM, and spatial FCM, FCM with locally weighted information, fast generation FCM) in the cluster validity functions as well as both compactness and separation.
In this paper, we analyze the input-output characteristics of fuzzy inference systems according to the division of entire input spaces and the fuzzy reasoning methods to identify the fuzzy model for nonlinear process. And fuzzy model is expressed by identifying the structure and parameters of the system by means of input variables, fuzzy partition of input spaces, and consequence polynomial functions. In the premise part of the rules Min-Max method using the minimum and maximum values of input data set and C-Means clustering algorithm forming input data into the hard clusters are used for identification of fuzzy model and membership function is used as a series of triangular membership function. In the consequence part of the rules fuzzy reasoning is conducted by two types of inferences. The identification of the consequence parameters, namely polynomial coefficients, of the rules are carried out by the standard least square method. And lastly, we use gas furnace process which is widely used in nonlinear process and we evaluate the performance for this nonlinear process.
A rule weight -based fuzzy classification model is proposed to analyze the patterns of admission-discharge of patients as a previous research for differential diagnosis of dyspnea. The proposed model is automatically generated from a labeled data set, supervised learning strategy, using three procedure methodology: i) select fuzzy partition regions from spatial distribution of data; ii) generate fuzzy membership functions from the selected partition regions; and iii) extract a set of candidate rules and resolve a conflict problem among the candidate rules. The effectiveness of the proposed fuzzy classification model was demonstrated by comparing the experimental results for the dyspnea patients' data set with 11 features selected from 55 features by clinicians with those obtained using the conventional classification methods, such as standard fuzzy classifier without rule weights, C4.5, QDA, kNN, and SVMs.

The performance improvement in MPEG-4 AVC is provided at the expense for higher computational complexity. Most of the complexity is caused by Inter prediction. To improve coding efficiency, some functions are added in H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, such as variable block size motion compensation, multi reference frame and quarter-pel motion compensation. A fast macroblock partition decision method is proposed in this paper. The macroblock size is efficiently determined by using the pixel value difference between encoding and the referred macroblock.
The solvent effects of MeOH-solvent dimers were studied via AM1 Hamiltonian and supermolecule methods. Methanol, ethanol, acetone, dimethylsulfoxide, N,N-dimethylformamide, tetrahydrofuran, dioxane, and acetonitrile were considered as solvent molecules. Optimized geometries, electron densities, molecular energies, and hydrogen-bonding energies of monomers and dimers were calculated. We found that the stabilization energies contributed to the hydrogen-bonding were decreased in the order of dimethylsulfoxide > ethanol > N,N-dimethylformamide > acetone > methanol > tatrahydrofuran > dioxane > acetonitrile, and this order was explained by using the change of electron density and energy partition functions.
The rice blast fungus, Magnaporthe oryzae, is an important pathogen of rice plants. It is well known that genes encoded in the genome have different evolutionary histories that are related to their functions. Phylostratigraphy is a method that correlates the evolutionary origin of genes with evolutionary transitions. Here we applied phylostratigraphy to partition total gene content of M. oryzae into distinct classes (phylostrata), which we designated PS1 to PS7, based on estimation of their emergence time. Genes in individual phylostrata did not show significant biases in their global distribution among seven chromosomes, but at the local level, clustering of genes belonging to the same phylostratum was observed. Our phylostrata-wide analysis of genes revealed that genes in the same phylostratum tend to be similar in many physical and functional characteristics such as gene length and structure, GC contents, codon adaptation index, and level of transcription, which correlates with biological functions in evolutionary context. We also found that a significant proportion of genes in the genome are orphans, for which no orthologs can be detected in the database. Among them, we narrowed down to seven orphan genes having transcriptional and translational evidences, and showed that one of them is implicated in asexual reproduction and virulence, suggesting ongoing evolution in this fungus through lineage-specific genes. Our results provide genomic basis for linking functions of pathogenicity factors and gene emergence time.
To do fuzzy modelling of a nonlinear process needs to analyze the characteristics of input-output of fuzzy inference systems according to the division of entire input spaces and the fuzzy reasoning methods. For this, fuzzy model is expressed by identifying the structure and parameters of the system by means of input variables, fuzzy partition of input spaces, and consequence polynomial functions. In the premise part of the fuzzy rules Min-Max method using the minimum and maximum values of input data set and C-Means clustering algorithm forming input data into the clusters are used for identification of fuzzy model and membership functions are used as a series of triangular, gaussian-like, trapezoid-type membership functions. In the consequence part of the fuzzy rules fuzzy reasoning is conducted by two types of inferences such as simplified and linear inference. The identification of the consequence parameters, namely polynomial coefficients, of each rule are carried out by the standard least square method. And lastly, using gas furnace process which is widely used in nonlinear process we evaluate the performance and the system characteristics.
A new method to obtain explicit re-parameterization that preserves the curve degree and parametric domain is presented in this paper. The re-parameterization brings a curve very close to the arc length parameterization under $L_2$ norm but with less segmentation. The re-parameterization functions we used are $C^1$ continuous piecewise rational linear functions, which provide more flexibility and can be easily identified by solving a quadratic equation. Based on the outstanding performance of Mobius transformation on modifying pieces with monotonic parametric speed, we first create a partition of the original curve, in which the parametric speed of each segment is of monotonic variation. The values of new parameters corresponding to the subdivision points are specified a priori as the ratio of its cumulative arc length and its total arc length. $C^1$ continuity conditions are imposed to each segment, thus, with respect to the new parameters, the objective function is linear and admits a closed-form optimization. Illustrative examples are also given to assess the performance of our new method.
