  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of parental media use, parents' educational needs regarding media use, and parents' media guidance for children on the children's media use. Methods: The participants were 161 parents of elementary school children in the 1st and 4th grades. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires, and analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 19.0 IBM program. Results: The average times for watching television and using the internet in the children were 11.44 hours and 5.89 hours per week, respectively. Children's time watching television was influenced by parents' time watching television, children's gender (girl), and parents' educational needs. Children's television dependency was influenced by parents' educational needs, parents' time watching television, and parents' age (under 36 years). Time using the internet and internet dependency in the children were influenced by parents' educational needs, family monthly income (under 3 million won), and parents' guidance for children on watching television. Conclusion: The findings indicate that elementary school children's media use is influenced by parental media use, parents' educational needs, and parents' media guidance for children. Therefore parental factors should be considered in developing approaches to provide education programs to prevent media overuse in children.

  • Subjects were 279 parents of 4- and 5-year-old day care children. Statistical techniques were factor analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression. Major findings were that parents with higher levels of education and income showed a higher level of attitudes and coping behavior toward preschoolers' exposure to secondhand smoke. Parents who were smokers had a higher level than non-smokers of knowledge and coping with preschoolers' secondhand smoke. Parents with higher levels of knowledge and more negative attitudes about secondhand smoke were more active in dealing with secondhand smoke. Parents' knowledge and attitudes were significant predictors of their coping behavior with preschoolers' secondhand smoke. Parents' knowledge was more predictive of parents' coping behavior than their attitudes.

  • The purpose of the study was to explore what kind of intervention might help foster parents decide to continue engaging in foster care. As foster care services are still in the early stages of development, lacking systematic support systems as well as full understanding of the roles of foster parents and foster care agencies, it is important to recruit, select, and train as many foster parents as possible. Utilizing the Foster Parent Role Perception scale developed by Le Prohn, the author first conceptualized foster parent roles or foster care agency roles; then explored what kind of effects the resource level or the role perception of the foster parents have on the decisions to continue doing foster care. The results showed that the foster parents perceived 'supporting the internal system of the foster child' and 'supporting the external system of the foster child' as the roles of foster parents, whereas 'fortifying the foster care system' and 'maintaining liaison with birth parents' were the roles of foster care agencies. It was also found that foster parents' strong role perception, higher levels of satisfaction towards education on the part of foster parents, and the number of children from the previous marriage had statistically significant positive effects on the decisions to continue foster care. The author argues that clear definitions of roles are needed for both foster parents and foster care agencies. Finally, the role of foster care agencies needs to be strengthened and supported.

  • Parents' influence on children's development is generally considered essential. This paper attempts to explore the role of AR in preschool education from the perspective of parents, aiming to help parents better understand the impact of children's use of augmented reality in preschool education. The subjects were parents of children in the preschool age range (3-6 years old), and the experimental equipment was AR cognitive cards. In order to extract parents' views on AR, five parents were invited to conduct an experiment with their children using AR cognition cards, and then an open interview survey was conducted. In the second experiment, the answers obtained from the first experiment were sorted out and formed a questionnaire to conduct a closed-book survey. It shows that parents are satisfied with the characteristics of AR to assist their children's learning. At the same time, parents also value technology, usage management and playing environment. AR can stimulate children's learning initiative. Children like to use AR, AR is suitable for learning, make parents satisfied. But even if AR is suitable for learning, parents will control the time their children use it.

Among the demographic variables, education, income and age of the married daughters and daughters-in-law were found to be correlated to both familism and filial responsibility of support for their parents, Also, education and age were negatively related to helping behaviors. 2) Marred women reported similar levels of filial responsibility of support towards parents in law and their own parents, However significant difference were found between the amounts of helping behavior towards parents-in-law and their own parents. 3) Regression analysis revealed that living arrangement(living with parents or not ), the level of filial responsibility , and education level provided to be significant predictors on the helping behavior towards parent-in-law explaining 46% of the total variance. On the other hand, filial responsibility , living pattern, and income level for the parents were powerflu in predicting helping behavior towards their own parents accounting 24% of the total explained variance. 4) A path analysis model indicated that while educational level and living arrangement influenced directly to helping behavior toward parent-in-law, living arrangement, income level of parents and familism were directly associated with helping behavior for parents of their own. Therefor , helping behavior of the middles aged women was significantly mediated by familism and filial responsibility for support towards both parents-in-law and their own parents.
