Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the causal relationship between parenting knowledge, parenting stress, and parenting behavior of mothers with infants and to confirm the longitudinal mediating effect of parenting stress in the relationship between parenting knowledge and parenting behavior. Methods: This study used data collected through the Panel Study on Korean Children from 2008 to 2010 and the participants were 1,444 mothers with infants. The data were analyzed through technical statistics, correlations and multivariate potential growth models using SPSS 28.0 and AMOS 26.0. Results: Parenting knowledge and parenting stress of mothers gradually increased, and positive parenting behavior gradually decreased. Having a lot of parenting knowledge reduced mother's parenting stress. Mother's parenting stress reduced positive parenting behavior, and as parenting stress increased, positive parenting behavior decreased significantly. However, the relationship between parenting knowledge and parenting behavior was not significant. In addition, the mediating effect of parenting stress was confirmed in the relationship between parenting knowledge and parenting behavior of mothers. Conclusion/Implications: The results of this study suggest the need to reduce parenting stress and promote positive parenting behavior along with the systematization of parent education programs in order for mothers with infants to acquire parenting knowledge.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of mother and father's parenting efficacy, parenting stress on children's daily stress. The subjects were 292 children selected from 4 elementary schools and their mothers and fathers. Data was collected using the parenting efficacy index, parenting stress index, and children's daily stress inventory, and was statistically analyzed using t-test, one way ANOVA(Scheffe test), correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. The study showed that there were some significant differences in children's daily stress according to the children's grade and gender. Correlation analysis indicated that the mother's parenting efficacy and children's daily stress had negative correlation, and also father's parenting efficacy and children's daily stress had negative correlation. Further, mother's parenting stress had positive correlation with children's daily stress, and father's parenting stress as well. It was also found that parenting efficacy of mother's general parenting ability, parenting efficacy of father's discipline ability, father's stress of difficult child, mother's educational distress, and children's gender were all significant predictors of the children's daily stress.
The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of marital conflict, parenting stress on married migrant women's parenting attitudes. Participants in this study were 109 married migrant moms of young children. The major results of this study were as follows: First, married migrant women's parenting stress and marital conflicts negatively related to warmth-encouragement, limit setting, but were positively related to rejection-noninteraction in parenting behavior. Second, married migrant women's warmth-encouragement in parenting behavior was affected by personal conflicts and couple relationship conflicts. Third, competence stress, attachment stress, spouse stress, isolation stress, and health stress also affected warmth-encourage parenting behavior. On the other hand, attachment stress, spouse stress and isolation stress had significant effects on limit setting in parenting behaviors. For rejection-noninteraction in parenting behaviors, depression and spouse stress affected significantly.
In this study, a sample of 249 mothers of 5- to 7-year-old kindergarteners responded to 4 questionnaires regarding maternal parenting stress, efficacy and behavior, and children's social competence. Teachers of the children also rated social competence. Correlations and regressions showed that parenting stress and difficulties in parenting were negatively related and parenting confidence and behavior were positively related to social competence, respectively. Parenting stress was the most influential variable to explain social competence. Maternal parenting stress was negatively related to parenting behavior and confidence, and it was positively related to difficulties in parenting. Parenting confidence was positively related and difficulties in parenting were negatively related to the subscales of parenting behavior, respectively. Parenting efficacy tended to play a mediating role between maternal parenting stress and parenting behavior.

Objectives: We aimed to compare the differences in parenting stress, parenting attitudes, and parents' mental health between different adult attachment styles. Methods: Forty-four parents who completed a parental education program were enrolled in our study. They completed the Korean version of the Experience of Close Relationship Revised, Korean-Parenting Stress Index-Short Form, Maternal Behavior Research Instrument, and Symptom Checklist-90-Revised. Results: The avoidant attachment score positively correlated with parenting stress. The anxious attachment score showed a positive relationship with parenting stress, hostile parenting attitude, and psychopathology, but a negative association with an affectionate parenting attitude. The secure attachment group exhibited a more autonomous, affectionate parenting style and a less hostile parenting attitude and less parenting stress than the insecure attachment group. Dismissing-avoidant attachment parents reported significantly higher parenting stress scores than secure attachment parents. Preoccupied and fearful-avoidant attachment parents displayed a more hostile parenting style than secure attachment parents. Dismissing-avoidant and preoccupied parents reported a less affectionate parenting attitude than secure attachment parents. Conclusion: There were differences in parenting stress, parenting attitudes, and parents' mental health depending on the adult attachment style. More specific education and interventions based on parental attachment type are necessary for parents.
This study examined the effect of parenting knowledge and mother-caregiver relationship on maternal parenting stress. The participants in this study consisted of 297 mothers of 1~3 years old children at daycare centers in Daegu, Korea. The participants completed questionnaires on their parenting knowledge, mother-caregiver relationship, and parenting stress. The results indicated that mothers' parenting knowledge and parenting stress were not-significantly related, but mother-caregiver relationship and mothers'parenting stress were significantly related. A close look at the effect of parenting knowledge and mother-caregiver relationship on maternal parenting stress, while maternal parenting knowledge did not influenced directly parenting stress, mother-caregiver relationship was a significant variable predicting mother's parenting stress. In particular, when a mother and caregiver develop a positive relationship, maternal parenting stress was lower. These results seem to indicate that the positive relationship between mother and caregiver is very important.
This study analyzed relations among maternal parenting behavior, infant development and parenting stress focusing on the moderating effect of parenting stress. Subjects were 30 infants and their mothers. After videotaping the mother-infant free play session, maternal parenting was analyzed by the Parent Child Interaction Play Assessment(Mash & Terdal, 1981); mothers' parenting stress was measured by questionnaire. Infant development was measured individually by the Korean Bayley Scale of Infant Development (K-BSID-II). Correlation analyses revealed that infant cognitive development correlated significantly with maternal parenting behavior (attention) but the relation between them was moderated by maternal parenting stress; only the low parenting stress group showed a positive relationship between maternal parenting behavior and infant development.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of parenting stress of mothers, warm parenting behaviors and controlling parenting behaviors on children's social competence. Methods: A total of 1515 mothers of young children(780 boys, 735 girls), who had participated in wave 7 of the Panel Study on Korean Children(PSKC), answered the questionnaires. The questionnaires included items about mothers' parenting stress, parenting behaviors, and their children's social competence. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation and structural equation models using SPSS 23 and AMOS 22. Results: First, there was a significantly negative correlation between mothers' parenting stress and children's social competence. Also, there was a significantly positive correlation between mothers' warm parenting behaviors and controlling parenting behavior and children's social competence. Second, mothers' parenting stress showed a direct negative effect on children's social competence. Third, mothers' warm parenting behaviors and controlling parenting behaviors showed partial mediating roles in the relationship between mothers' parenting stress and children's social competence. Conclusion/Implications: In order to develop positive social competence of children, programs and social support are needed to reduce mothers'parenting stress and induce positive parenting behaviors.
The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between parenting stress and, parenting efficacy and on parenting behaviors in mothers with young children. Ed. Note: confirm wording. A total of 222 mothers, each having children aged three to five, participated in the study. The data were analyzed through frequency, percentile, mean, standard deviation, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression analysis. Results of this study indicate that parenting efficacy and stress were significantly related to parenting behaviors. The relationship between the mother's parenting stress and parenting behaviors was mediated by the mother's parenting efficacy. In conclusion, the mother's parenting efficacy and a perception of parenting stress turn out to be important factors in predicting parenting behaviors.
Objective : To evaluate the sensory processing ability in relation to parenting stress and find the sensory modulation areas affecting the parenting stress in disabled children Methods : Parents of 124 children with disabilities between 3 to 7 years receiving occupational therapy in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do made out the questionnaire and in items of questionnaire, Short Sensory Profile and Parenting Stress Index of short form was included. Results : Among general information, parenting stress of parents had significant correlation with the degree of disability and correlation with the lower level 2 of Parenting Stress Index. The more sensory processing disability was increased, the more parenting stress was increased. Parenting stress showed the significant correlation with movement sensitivity area and under-responsiveness/behaivor area seeking specific stimulation among sensory processing areas and had significant correlation with tactile sensitivity and auditory filtering. Sensory processing areas which affect the most the Parenting Stress were movement sensitivity and under-responsiveness/behaivor area seeking the specific behavior among sensory control disabilities. Conclusion : The parenting stress of parents with the disabled children had the correlation with sensory processing ability. The difficulty of sensory processing increased the parenting stress. Hence, in order to improve children's sensory processing ability, the appropriately coping program should be developed and the appropriate intervention for improvement of sensory processing ability of children will be necessary.
