Second, the analysis of the results of verbal, nonverbal and musical responses from the program suggests that the group B gradually improved functional communications as each session develops. For the case of group A, at the initial stage, dysfunctional communications in verbal and nonverbal ones could be found. After the eighth session however, functional communications had increased. The result of the study shows that overall therapeutic music making has been an effective musical intervention in improving communication in single-parent families.

Using this knowledge, a first aid program was developed for mothers. This researcher used a Quasi experimental study which consisted of a nonequivalent control group pretest - posttest design for injury first-aid knowle. The experimental group consisted of 32 mothers, and the control group consisted of 29. The education program consisted of the types of injury, the structure and function of skin, the methods of obsevation, first-aid awareness, and the standard of professional support in case of contusion, abrasion, laceration, fracture and burn. The education program was developed and based on 'the systemetic design of instruction' by Dick & Carey(1996) and utilized multimedia text book, pictures, examples, practice and discussions to increase understanding and effectiveness of learning. The data for this study was collected from September to early November, 2001. There were two fomative evauations, pretest and posttest with an intervention of education program. The analysis of the collected data was analyzed by descriptive analysis, ANOVA, t-test and paired t-test using the SPSS 10.0 program. The results as follows; 1. The experimental group, who was given an education program before the test, got higher marks on the injury first-aid knowledge than the control group. There was a significant difference in knowledge between experimental group and control group(t=6.578, p=.000). 2. The experimental group got higher marks on the action evaluation than the control group. There were significant differences in the certainity of action (t=8.546, p=.000) and the accuracy of action (t=7.654, p=.000) between experimental group and control group. This study examined how a first aid education program increased effectiveness in the knowledge and action of injury first-aid.

All the changing process the mothers showed was analyzed qualitatively to see what happened to the mothers and their children by the methods of coding, taxonomic analysis, critical events, componential analysis, and casual chain analysis suggested by Spradley(1980). The analyses showed that the mothers who participated in the program come to take more sympathetic, receptive attitudes to their children, while the children get better in the children's emotional behavioral problems in the qualitative analysis as well as the quantitative analysis.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand how the economic conditions and needs of single-parent families are different between single-mother and single-father families, and also how they are dependent on household composition. The data for this study were drawn from the 1st Korea Welfare Panel Study and analyzed by frequencies, means, ${\chi}^2$, t-test, F-test, and logistic regression with the STATA 9.1 program. The major findings are as follows: (1) Single-parent families are more likely to live in a three-generation household than married couple families. (2) The composition of a three-generation household of single-parent families is affected by sex, age, education, type of marital disruption, the type of employment of single parents and the age of the last-born child. (3) The income-to-needs ratio is not significantly different depending on the sex of the single parents and their household composition. However, material hardship is significantly low in three-generation household single-parent families. (4) There are differences between three-generation single-parent families and independent single-parent families in income sources: The ratio of public transfer to total incomes is higher in three-generation households than independent households, while the ratio of private transfer to total incomes is higher in independent households.
