  • In this paper, a wide band helical antenna for mobile handset using parasitic element effect has been investigated. To obtain the effect of parasitic element, we utilized the cylindrical conductor which is not feed. As thickness of cylindrical conductor is increasing, second and third resonance frequency become abruptly variable. In case of that 4.5mm diameter parasitic element cylindrical conductor is inserted, normal mode helical antenna obtained bandwidth of around 900 MHz on the limit of R. L., - 5 dB.

  • In this paper, the microstrip anntenna with broad bandwidth is designed using parasitic element. In the designed cofiguration, parasitic element of the same resonating length but different width which is coupled to the nonradiating edge of a rectangular patch antenna. The driven element aloe is fed and the other part is operated as parasitic element. So the different patchs are resonating at differnt frequencies and this multiple resonance increase the bandwidth. The overall size of the antenna is not increased by adding parasitic element to a driven patch. Compared to the available wideband microstrip antennas, the designed antenna structure is bery compact. A theoretical explanation of the rectangular patch antenna coupled with prarsitic is analyzed by extending the theory of coupled microstrip lines. The theoretical and experimental results for a patch coupled with a single parasitic are presented.

  • Novel design of a wideband monopole antenna for DVB-H service is presented. The proposed antenna is designed based on a monopole antenna. It consists of folded monopole and parallel parasitic element. The folded segment of the folded monopole makes the antenna shorter. The length of the parasitic element obtains additional resonance frequencies. The gap distance between the folded monopole and the parasitic element is a key parameter to control impedance matching for wideband operation. The antenna has wide band performance, good impedance and radiation characteristics from 470 MHz to 870 MHz. The measured return loss for operating frequencies over DVB-H band is better than 10 dB. Good radiation patterns are also obtained. The measured results are compared with calculated results using Ansoft HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulator).

  • Rectangular microstrip antenna with parasitic element is analyzed. Radiation admittance and equivalent circuit parameters between rectangular microstrip antenna and parasitic element are obtained by using equivalent ${\pi}$-network parameters of the slit in the wall of the parallel plate waveguide filled with homogeneous dielectric. The return loss is calculated and measured as a function of frequency with gap width 0.5mm between the patch and parasitic element. The experimental results are in fairly agreement with calculated values.

  • In this paper, we present a compact planar dual band rejection Ultra Wide Band(UWB) antenna with folded parasitic element. The proposed antenna is consist of a hexagonal planar radiation patch antenna with a folded parasitic element which is located over the top and bottom surface. In contrast with other antenna which rejects single band using one method, folded parasitic element rejects dual band using one simple structure. Owing to folded parasitic element, dual-rejected properties are achieved in the Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access(WiMAX), C-band, and Wireless Local Area Network(WLAN) bands. The bandwidth of the proposed antenna was measured as 3.1~10.6 GHz for voltage standing wave ratio(VSWR) less than 2, except for the dual rejection bands of 3.4~4.2 GHz and 5.15~6.00 GHz.

  • In this paper, a small-sized planar square-spiral monopole antenna is proposed by using parasitic elements. The Parasitic element is composed of a crossed strip and additional right-angle folded(L-type) stirps. And these parasitic elements are printed on a substrate which is the opposite side of a radiation element . When the parasitic elements are used, the size of the square-spiral monopole antenna is reduced by $32\%$ for the same operating frequency compared to the antenna without parasitic elements. The radiation pattern of the proposed antenna is nearly omni-directional in azimuth. The designed antenna can be used in the application of channel 12 digital mulimedia broadcasting(DMB) handset.

  • In this paper, the dipole antenna that can control a beam steering were designed for attaching on LEO(Low Earth Orbit) small satellite. The proposed antenna was based on Yagi-Uda antenna. The parasitic element was proposed as a T-shape. Depending on the state of open or short at the end of a vertical element, we can choose a characteristic of the parasitic element with fixing a vertical element length of the parasitic element. Using this characteristic, we designed the director element and reflector element. The proposed antenna was designed to receive UHF 436.5 MHz. Antenna gain was chosen by link budget between one satellite and the other satellite or between the satellite and the ground station. By changing a vertical element length which is the largest variable that chooses an antenna characteristic, we confirmed that ${\lambda}/2$ length transformer has a result that improve 0.5 dB in comparison ${\lambda}/4$ length transformer from maximum gain direction. In production, we made an on/off switch composed of a diode, capacitor, and inductor control an open and short at the end of the parasitic element. As a result, the gain of antenna used in a link between one satellite and the other satellite had average 5.92 dBi. And the gain of antenna used in a link between the satellite and the ground station had average 0.99 dBi.

  • In this paper, a triple-band printed dipole antenna using parasitic elements is proposed for the multiple wireless services. The proposed antenna is designed and experimentally analyzed at the bands of PCS, IMT-2000, and ISM services. To achieve triple frequency operation, the proposed antenna contains two parasitic elements, which act as additional resonators by coupling from the driving dipole antenna. From the measured results, the resonant frequencies of this antenna are 1.79 ㎓, 2.03 ㎓, and 2.41 ㎓ and the measured impedance bandwidths are 90 MHz(1760∼1850 MHz), 210 MHz(1,930∼2,130 MHz), and 30 MHz(2,400∼2,430 MHz) for VSWR<2. The measured antenna gains are 2.14 ㏈i, 0.9 ㏈i, and 0.5 ㏈i, respectively. Antenna parameters for trifle-band operation are investigated and several antenna characteristics are discussed.

  • In this paper, several parasitic elements are added to the circular microstrip antenna in order to increase its bandwidth. Three kinds of parasitic elements such as cone, circular plate, and ring types are applied and input VSWRs, radiation patterns, and input impedances are measured. The optimal sizes of each parasitic element are obtianed and the variations of the bandwidth according to the height from the patch are also measured. In thid case of the ring type, the optimum bandwidth is obtained at the height of 10mm from the patch to the parasitic element. In the cases of conical and circular plate types, the maximum bandwidth is obtained at the hight of 45mm form the patch to the parasitic elements.

  • In this paper, we design an array antenna structure based on a patch ESPAR(Electronically Steerable Parasitic Array Radiator) antenna with three elements for reliable communication in high-speed railway wireless communication. The ESPAR antenna consists of the active element with a single RF-chain and the parasitic elements surrounding an active element. The ESPAR antenna is capable of beamforming by adjusting the reactance of the parasitic element. We propose a vertical array antenna structure based on the patch ESPAR antenna and simulate it according to the change of the number of antennas and the distance between antenna rows. The simulation results show that we can get the maximum beam gain and highest directivity when the distance between antenna rows is ${\lambda}$.
