SSD 스토리지 시스템을 위한 효율적인 DRAM 버퍼 액세스 스케줄링 기법 (Efficient DRAM Buffer Access Scheduling Techniques for SSD Storage System)

  • 최근 NAND 플래시 메모리를 이용한 새로운 저장매체인 SSD(Solid State Disk)가 모바일 기기를 중심으로 HDD(Hard Disk Drive)를 대체하면서 가격대비 성능을 향상시키려는 연구가 다양한 접근 방식을 통해 진행 중이다. 병렬처리를 통한 NAND 플래시 대역폭 향상을 위해 채널수를 확장하면서 호스트(PC)와 NAND 플래시 간의 버퍼 캐시의 역할을 하는 DRAM 버퍼가 SSD 성능 개선의 bottleneck으로 작용하게 되었다. 이 문제를 해소하기 위해 본 논문에서는 DRAM Multi-bank를 활용한 스케줄링 기법을 통해 DRAM 버퍼 대역폭을 개선함으로써 저비용으로 SSD의 성능을 향상시키는 효과적인 방안을 제안한다. 호스트와 NAND 플래시 다중 채널이 동시에 DRAM 버퍼의 접근을 요청하는 경우, 이들의 목적지를 확인하여 DRAM 특성을 고려한 스케줄링 기법을 적용함으로써 bank 활성화 시간과 row latency에 대한 overhead를 감소시키고 결과적으로 DRAM 버퍼 대역폭 활용을 최적화할 수 있다. 제안한 기법을 적용하여 실험한 결과, 무시할만한 수준의 하드웨어 변경 및 증가만으로 기존의 SSD 시스템과 비교하여 SSD의 읽기 성능은 최대 47.4%, 쓰기 성능은 최대 47.7% 향상됨을 확인하였다.

  • Interest in the Quality of working life is spreading rapidly and the phrase has entered the popular vocabulary. That this should be so is probably due in large measure to changes in the values of society, nowadays accelerated as never before by the concerns and demands of younger people. But however topical the concept has become, there is very little agreement on its definition. Rather, the term appears to have become a kind of depository for a variety of sometimes contradictory meanings attributed to it by different groups. A list of all the elements it if held to cover would include availability and security of employment, adaquate income, safe and pleasant physical working conditions, reasonable hours of work, equitable treatment and democracy in the workplace, the possibility of self-development, control over one's work, a sense of pride in craftsmanship or product, wider career choices, and flexibility in matters such as the time of starting work, the number of working days in the week, Job sharing and so on altogether an array that encompasses a variety of traditional aspirations and many new ones reflecting the entry into the post industrial era. The term "quality of working life" was introduced by professor Louis E. Davis and his colleagues in the late 1960s to call attention to the prevailing and needlessly poor quality of life at the workplace. In their usage it referred to the quality of the relationship between the worker and his working environment as a whole, and was intended to emphasize the human dimension so often forgotten among the technical and economic factors in job design. Treating workers as if they were elements or cogs in the production process is not only an affront to the dignity of human life, but is also a serious underestimation of the human capabilities needed to operate more advanced technologies. When tasks demand high levels of vigilence, technical problem-solving skills, self initiated behavior, and social and communication skills. it is imperative that our concepts of man be of requisite complexity. Our aim is not just to protect the worker's life and health but to give them an informal interest in their job and opportunity to express their views and exercise control over everything that affects their working life. Certainly, so far as his work is concerned, a man must feel better protected but he must also have a greater feeling of freedom and responsibility. Something parallel but wholly different if happening in Europe, industrial democracy. What has happened in Europe has been discrete, fixed, finalized, and legalized. Those developing centuries driving toward industrialization like R.O.K, shall have to bear in mind the human complexity in processing and designing the work and its environment. Increasing attention is needed to the contradiction between autocratic rule at the workplace and democratic rights in society.n society.

청각신경신호 검출 장치용 다중채널 아나로그 프론트엔드 (Multi-Channel Analog Front-End for Auditory Nerve Signal Detection)

  • 청신경의 이상으로 발생하는 감각신경성 난청의 경우, 달팽이관이나 청각신경에 전극을 이식하여 전기자극을 가함으로써 청지각을 살릴 수 있다. 이를 위해 우선적으로, 각 청각신경들이 담당하여 인지할 수 있는 소리의 주파수 분포를 표시한 음계소지도를 파악해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 청각신경신호 검출 장치용 다중채널 아나로그 프론트엔드 회로를 제안한다. 제안된 아나로그 프론트엔드의 각 채널은 AC 커플링 회로, 저 전력 4차 Gm-C LPF와 단일 기울기 ADC로 이루어진다. AC 커플링 회로는 청각신호의 불확실한 DC 전압 레벨을 제거하고 AC 신호만 전달한다. Gm-C LPF는 청각신호의 대역폭을 고려하여 설계 되었으며, 플로팅-게이트 기법이 적용된 OTA를 사용하였다. 채널별 ADC를 구현하기 위해서, 최소의 면적으로 구현할 수 있는 단일 기울기 ADC 구조를 사용하였다. 측정 결과, AC 커플링 회로와 4차 Gm-C LPF는 100 Hz - 6.95 kHz의 대역폭을 가지며, 단일 기울기 ADC는 7.7 비트의 유효 해상도를 가진다. 그리고, 채널 당 $12\;{\mu}W$의 전력이 소모 되었다. 전원 전압은 3.0 V가 공급되었고, 코어는 $2.6\;mm\;{\times}\;3.7\;mm$의 실리콘 면적을 차지한다. 제안된 아나로그 프론트엔드는 1-poly 4-metal $0.35-{\mu}m$ CMOS 공정에서 제작 되었다.

광통신 시스템을 위한 40Gb/s Forward Error Correction 구조 설계 (40Gb/s Foward Error Correction Architecture for Optical Communication System)

  • 본 논문은 40Gb/s급 광통신 시스템에서 사용되는 고속 리드-솔로몬(RS) 복호기의 하드웨어 면적을 줄인 새로운 구조를 소개하고 RS 복호기 기반의 고속 FEC구조를 제안한다. 특히 높은 데이터처리율과 적은 하드웨어 복잡도를 가지고 있는 차수 연산 블록이 제거된 pDCME 알고리즘 구조를 소개한다. 제안된 16채널 RS FEC구조는 8개의 신드롬 계산 블록이 1개의 KES 블록을 공유하는 8 채널 RS FEC구조 2개로 구성되어 있다. 따라서 4개의 신드롬 계산 블록에 1개의 KES블록을 공유하는 기존의 16채널 3-병렬 FEC 구조와 비교하여 하드웨어 복잡도를 약 30%정도 줄일 수 있다. 제안된 FEC 구조는 1.8V의 공급전압과 $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS 기술을 사용하여 구현하였고 총 250K개의 게이트수와 5.1Gbit/s의 데이터 처리율을 가지고 400MHz의 클럭 주파수에서 동작함을 보여준다. 제안된 면적 효율적인 FEC 구조는 초고속 광통신뿐만 아니라 무선통신을 위한 차세대 FEC 구조 등에 바로 적용될 수 있을 것이다.

고자장 MRI에서의 영상 영역에 대한 B1+ 균질성 (B1+ Homogenizaion over Whole Field of View in High Field MRI)

  • 정 자장($B_0$)의 세기가 7 T(Tesla) 또는 9.4 T 고자기장 MRI(Magnetic Resonance Imaging) 시스템은 정 자장의 세기가 1.5 T 또는 3 T MRI(Magnetic Resonance Imaging) 시스템에 비하여 인가된 RF(Radio Frequency) 필드의 높은 불균질성을 보여준다. 다채널(multi-channel) RF 코일에서는 인가된 RF 자장($B_1^+$)의 불균질성을 개선시키기 위해서 각각의 코일 소자(element)에 인가되는 전류의 크기와 위상을 독립적으로 조절할 수 있다. 선택된 관심 영역에서의 RF 자장이 균일하도록 RF 코일의 각 요소로 들어가는 최적화된 전류의 크기와 위상 값을 얻기 위해서 iterative 방법과 함께 convex 최적화 방법이 사용된다. 이러한 방법을 입증하기 위하여 9.4 T MRI 시스템에 RF 코일의 공진 주파수가 400 MHz을 가지는 다채널 전송 선로 코일이 인체 두상 모형과 함께 모델링되었으며, 이 코일에 의하여 자장이 얻어진다. 9.4 T MRI 시스템을 위한 시뮬레이션 결과가 자세히 논의된다.

미캐니컬 씰의 안전운용 감시를 위한 최적 계측인자 (Optimum Monitoring Parameters for the Safety of Mechanical Seals)

  • 미캐니컬 씰은 회전축에 장착되는 밀봉장치의 하나로써 많은 산업 현장에서 사용되고 있다. 산업발전과 더불어 미캐니컬 씰의 고장 즉, 밀봉장치에서의 누설, 크랙, 파손, 과대마멸 등과 같은 이상 상태는 대규모 공장의 생산라인을 정지시키거나 심각한 환경오염을 유발시키는 등 경제, 사회적 문제를 야기시키고 있다. 미캐니컬 씰 밀봉면의 미끄럼 운동상태를 인지하고, 미캐니컬 씰의 고장에 대한 감시인자를 도출하기 위하여 미끄럼 마멸실험을 수행하였다. 미캐니컬 씰의 회전속도를 1750 rpm 으로 하여, 매 10 분 마다 미캐니컬 씰 밀봉면의 마멸상태를 광학현미경으로 관찰하였고, 실험동안에 미캐니컬 씰의 미끄럼 운동면에서의 음향방출(AE : Acoustic Emission), 토크, 온도, 등을 측정하였으며, 실시간으로 토크 신호의 주파수 분석을 실시하였다. 각 실험의 초기를 제외하고는 전 구간에서 음향방출 신호의 크기와 토크 값의 변화 경향이 대체로 유사한 경향을 보였다. 정상상태에서는 음향방출, 토크 및 온도가 안정된 상태를 유지하였으나, 이상상태에서는 음향방출의 크기와 토크값이 안정된 상태를 유지하지 못하였으며, 온도는 이상상태 때 급상승하는 경향을 보였다. 토크 값과 온도의 변화가 미캐니컬 씰의 고장에 대한 장기적 감시인자로 적절하다고 생각되며, 미캐니컬 씰의 순간적인 이상상태를 확인하거나 미캐니컬 씰의 운동상태를 인지하는 데는 실효치 전압 상태의 음향방출 신호가 적당하다고 생각된다. 온도는 이상상태 감시 시스템에서 시스템의 신뢰도를 증진시키는 병렬요소로써 활용될 수 있을 것이다.장 큰 결합활성도(binding activity)를 나타내며, 또한 Hyphantria cunea와 같은 나비목의 다른 종의 lipophorin도 인식하는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 리포포린에 결합하는 수용체의 구조적 또는 기능적 요소는 같은 목내의 종간에 보존되는 것으로 생각된다.과 성충의 생존율은 온도에 따른 계통간 차이는 없었다. 내적자연증가율( $r_{m}$ )은 S계통이 $R_{L}$, $R_{F}$계통보다 $25^{\circ}C$에서는 낮았지만 2$0^{\circ}C$와 3$0^{\circ}C$에서는 높았다. 특히 3$0^{\circ}C$에서는 S계통이 현저히 높았다. 결론적으로 dicofol 저항성계통( $R_{L}$, $R_{F}$)은 저온(2$0^{\circ}C$)과 고온(3$0^{\circ}C$)에서 감수성계통에 비해 생물학적 적응력이 떨어질 것으로 생각된다.력이 떨어질 것으로 생각된다.력이 떨어질 것으로 생각된다.해도 될 것이다. 쐐기 투과율을 정하는 위치가 d$_{max}$ 나 공기중이라면 민조사변에 대한 출력계수를 적용할 수 있지만 다른 깊이에서는 쐐기필터 각각에 대한 출력계수를 또는 조사면크기에 따른 쐐기투과율을 적용해야 할 것이다. 39.2%가 이유 설명 후 사주지 않는 것으로 나타났으며 23.2%가 다음으로 미룬다, 무조건

Coordinated alteration of mRNA-microRNA transcriptomes associated with exosomes and fatty acid metabolism in adipose tissue and skeletal muscle in grazing cattle

  • Objective: On the hypothesis that grazing of cattle prompts organs to secrete or internalize circulating microRNAs (c-miRNAs) in parallel with changes in energy metabolism, we aimed to clarify biological events in adipose, skeletal muscle, and liver tissues in grazing Japanese Shorthorn (JSH) steers by a transcriptomic approach. Methods: The subcutaneous fat (SCF), biceps femoris muscle (BFM), and liver in JSH steers after three months of grazing or housing were analyzed using microarray and quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR), followed by gene ontology (GO) and functional annotation analyses. Results: The results of transcriptomics indicated that SCF was highly responsive to grazing compared to BFM and liver tissues. The 'Exosome', 'Carbohydrate metabolism' and 'Lipid metabolism' were extracted as the relevant GO terms in SCF and BFM, and/or liver from the >1.5-fold-altered mRNAs in grazing steers. The qPCR analyses showed a trend of upregulated gene expression related to exosome secretion and internalization (charged multivesicular body protein 4A, vacuolar protein sorting-associated protein 4B, vesicle associated membrane protein 7, caveolin 1) in the BFM and SCF, as well as upregulation of lipolysis-associated mRNAs (carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1A, hormone-sensitive lipase, perilipin 1, adipose triglyceride lipase, fatty acid binding protein 4) and most of the microRNAs (miRNAs) in SCF. Moreover, gene expression related to fatty acid uptake and inter-organ signaling (solute carrier family 27 member 4 and angiopoietin-like 4) was upregulated in BFM, suggesting activation of SCF-BFM organ crosstalk for energy metabolism. Meanwhile, expression of plasma exosomal miR-16a, miR-19b, miR-21-5p, and miR-142-5p was reduced. According to bioinformatic analyses, the c-miRNA target genes are associated with the terms 'Endosome', 'Caveola', 'Endocytosis', 'Carbohydrate metabolism', and with pathways related to environmental information processing and the endocrine system. Conclusion: Exosome and fatty acid metabolism-related gene expression was altered in SCF of grazing cattle, which could be regulated by miRNA such as miR-142-5p. These changes occurred coordinately in both the SCF and BFM, suggesting involvement of exosome in the SCF-BFM organ crosstalk to modulate energy metabolism.

STN DBS of Advanced Parkinson's Disease Experienced in a Specialized Monitoring Unit with a Prospective Protocol

  • Objective : In the evaluation of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), most neurologists only see their patients during a limited period of their fluctuating 24-hour-a-day lives. This study aimed to assess the short-term outcome of STN stimulation for patients with advanced PD evaluated in a 24-hour monitoring unit for movement disorder (MUMD) using a prospective protocol. Methods : Forty-two patients with advanced PD consecutively treated with bilateral STN stimulation using multi-channel microelectrode recording were included in this study. All patients were evaluated using a 24-hour MUMD with a video recording/editing system and were evaluated with a prospective protocol of the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale, Hoehn and Yahr Staging, Schwab and England Activities of Daily Living, levodopa equivalent daily dose (LEDD), Short Form-36 Health Survey, and neuropsychological tests. Magnetic resonance (MR) images of the brain were performed prior to and six months after surgery. Results : All patients were evaluated at three and six months after surgery. There was a rapid and significant improvement of the motor symptoms, especially in tremor and rigidity, after STN stimulation with low morbidity. Dyskinesia was markedly decreased with much lowered LEDD values by 50% after STN stimulation. 1.5T MR images were safely taken according to the manufacturer's guidelines at six months after surgery without any adverse effects in 41 patients treated with STN stimulations. Conclusion : Evaluations in a 24-hour monitoring unit could reduce the dose of medication efficiently to an optimal level with patients' comfort and improve the clinical symptoms in harmony with STN stimulation.

수학자 테일러의 선 원근법과 화가 커비의 해설서 (Mathematician Taylor's Linear Perspective Theory and Painter Kirby's Handbook)

  • In the development of linear perspective, Brook Taylor's theory has achieved a special position. With his method described in Linear Perspective(1715) and New Principles of Linear Perspective(1719), the subject of linear perspective became a generalized and abstract theory rather than a practical method for painters. He is known to be the first who used the term 'vanishing point'. Although a similar concept has been used form the early stage of Renaissance linear perspective, he developed a new method of British perspective technique of measure points based on the concept of 'vanishing points'. In the 15th and 16th century linear perspective, pictorial space is considered as independent space detached from the outer world. Albertian method of linear perspective is to construct a pavement on the picture in accordance with the centric point where the centric ray of the visual pyramid strikes the picture plane. Comparison to this traditional method, Taylor established the concent of a vanishing point (and a vanishing line), namely, the point (and the line) where a line (and a plane) through the eye point parallel to the considered line (and the plane) meets the picture plane. In the traditional situation like in Albertian method, the picture plane was assumed to be vertical and the center of the picture usually corresponded with the vanishing point. On the other hand, Taylor emphasized the role of vanishing points, and as a result, his method entered the domain of projective geometry rather than Euclidean geometry. For Taylor's theory was highly abstract and difficult to apply for the practitioners, there appeared many perspective treatises based on his theory in England since 1740s. Joshua Kirby's Dr. Brook Taylor's Method of Perspective Made Easy, Both in Theory and Practice(1754) was one of the most popular treatises among these posterior writings. As a well-known painter of the 18th century English society and perspective professor of the St. Martin's Lane Academy, Kirby tried to bridge the gap between the practice of the artists and the mathematical theory of Taylor. Trying to ease the common readers into Taylor's method, Kirby somehow abbreviated and even omitted several crucial parts of Taylor's ideas, especially concerning to the inverse problems of perspective projection. Taylor's theory and Kirby's handbook reveal us that the development of linear perspective in European society entered a transitional phase in the 18th century. In the European tradition, linear perspective means a representational system to indicated the three-dimensional nature of space and the image of objects on the two-dimensional surface, using the central projection method. However, Taylor and following scholars converted linear perspective as a complete mathematical and abstract theory. Such a development was also due to concern and interest of contemporary artists toward new visions of infinite space and kaleidoscopic phenomena of visual perception.

Dicor와 수종 전장도재간의 전단결합강도 (THE SHEAR BOND STRENGTH BETWEEN DICOR AND SEVERAL VENEERING PORCELAINS)

  • Dicor has not been prescribed routinely, in spite of many advantages, because of esthetic limitations by excessive translucency and external shading. In an attempt to solve these problems, the technique of veneering Dicor by aluminous poreclain has been used and recently Dicor Plus system was developed. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the compatibility between Dicor and several veneering porcelains by measuring the shear bond strength and observing the failure mode and interface appearance with SEM. Total 55 Dicor disks(10.0mm diam. X 3.0mm thickness) were fabricated by lost wax technique and divided into five groups of 11. Veneering porcelains such as Dicor Plus, Vitadur Alpha, Vitadur N, Vivodent, and Ceramco II were built up over the center of the treated Dicor surface using paper tube(5.0mm diam. X 4.0mm height) and fired according to the manufacturesr’instructions. A representative sample from each group was completely embedded in epoxy resin and crosssectioned, and remaining 50 samples were embedded in epoxy resin with the bonded area perpendicular to table base. The shear bond strengths were measured by applying the shear load parallel to Dicor surface close to the bonded area. Failure modes and interface appearances were observed using SEM at 15 and 1000 magnification respectively. The obtained results were as follows : 1. The mean shear bond strengths showed Dicor-Dicor Plus(10.53 MPa); Dicor-Vitadur Alpha(8.84 MPa); Dicor-Vitadur N(7.37 MPa); Dicor-Vivodent(4.28 MPa); Dicor-Ceramco II(0.89 MPa). 2. The shear bond strength of Dicor-CeramcoII was significantly decreased compared with Dicor-Dicor Plus(p<0.01), but had no significant difference compared with Dicor-Vivodent(p>0.01). 3. The shear bond strengths of Dicor-Vitadur Alpha and Dicor-Vitadur N were not significantly different compared with Dicor-Dicor Plus(p>0.01). 4. SEM examination of bond failure modes revealed that Dicor-Dicor plus, Dicor-Vitadur Alpha, Dicor-Vitadur N exhibited cohesive failure within Dicor and Dicor-Vivodent exhibited adhesive failure. And Dicor-Ceramco III exhibited adhesive failure and cohesive failure within CeramcoIII together. 5. SEM examination of interfaces revealed that Dicor-Dicor Plus exhibited the most tight contact and Dicor-Vitadur Alpha, Dicor-Vitadur N exhibited acceptible contacts. But Vivodent exhibited discontinuous gap and Ceramco II exhibited large continuous gap.
