Here, we report a case of mixed squamous cell and glandular papilloma that presented as a solitary nodule in the left lower lobe of a 64-year-old woman. Chest computed tomography demonstrated a lobulated mass in the basal segment of the left lower lobe. The patient underwent a lobectomy under the suspicion of lung malignancy. The histopathological diagnosis was mixed squamous cell and glandular papilloma.

  • It is well known that laryngeal papilloma is histopathological benign, but clinically one of the most troublesome disease in otolaryngologic department, usually seen in child age. Since Cleesmann reported papilloma of the vocal cord, 1817 first, the etiology had not been known exactly. The symptoms in children are dyspnea, dysphonia due to recurrence, and papilloma in adult can change into neoplasm. The papilloma is thought as real neoplastic lesion and there is not effective treatment, using now repeated removal and combined therapy. This report is based on the typical findings and progress of one case of laryngeal papilloma observed for the past 13 years with repeated removal and topical application of 5-FU at our department. Authors have experienced this subject is interesting that the change of the tumor region during the course than to any new therapeutic methods employed, and so report with some reviews of the literatures.

  • Intraductal papilloma is an extremely rare benign tumor especially when it arises from major salivary gland. Recently, we experienced a case of an intraductal papilloma arising from the parotid gland in a 51-year-old woman. The radiologic finding showed lobulated enhancing and cystic solid mass in the left parotid superficial lobe. Superficial parotidectomy was performed. Pathological findings showed papillary proliferations with fibrovascular cores lined with bland cuboidal or columnar epithelial cells, and immunohistochemical stain results were consistent with intraductal papilloma. We report a case of intraductal papilloma in parotid gland with a review of literature.

  • The present study reports a case of inverted papilloma of the nasal cavity and infiltrating into the maxillary sinus. Inverted papilloma is an uncommon and locally aggressive benign tumor of the sinonasal region. The patient, 51year-old male, presented with unilateral nasal obstruction and periodic swelling on the palate without pain. Enhanced CT scan revealed a heterogeneously enhancing solid mass in the nasal cavity and infiltrating into the right maxillary sinus, as well as an incidental, secondarily infected residual cyst in the periapical area of the right maxillary canine. The sinonasal mass was revealed as an inverted papilloma on histopathologic examination. (Korean J Oral Maxillofac Radiol2009; 39: 103-7)

  • Histopathological observations on a epidermal papilloma of wild red halibut (Hippogossoides dubius) caught at the area around Echung Island and Gogunsan Islands were done. The papilloma formed on the dorsal fin was the same color with the body on the ocular side but black on the non-ocular side. Under light microscopy, the tumor on the skin was very similar to epithelial papilloma supported by connective tissue. X-cell-like cells in the tumors were large and eosinophilic with a centrally-located, large nucleus. But the characteristic large nucleolus in the nucleus of the x-like cells was indistinct clear in this specimen because about 6-9 hours have passed after catching the fish and autolysis have occurred.

A quantitative, descriptive design was used to study 471 students in Ulsan, recruited from April 1 to May 30, 2011. The data were analyzed SPSS program, using descriptive statistics, t-test and ANOVA. The percentage of the participants who received HPV vaccination was 4.0%. The average level of health belief and knowledge about human papilloma virus were 3.05, 5.01 points. Therefore, it is needed to reduce HPV infection through concrete educational programs and advertisement. Also, this educational programs need to include strategies the knowledge of human papilloma virus.

Bronchoscopy showed a whitish friable mass in the lumen of the right main bronchus biopsy of which was reported as benign papilloma. Right upper lobectomy together with wedge resection of the portion of right main bronchus to include the tumor was done. Cut-edges of the bronchus were stitched together with interrupted fine dacron sutures. During this procedure, right main bronchus was gently clamped with non-crushing Satinsky type clamp. • A dog (Maltese, 4-year-old, intact male) was referred to the hospital because of the multiple cabbage-shaped nodular masses on penis, preputial fornix and inner layer of prepuce with the free-roaming history. Those appearance was similar with the characteristic of transmissible venereal tumor (TVT). As a result, it was tentatively diagnosed as TVT by the veterinarian of a local clinic and treated with vincristine sulfate. However, the lesion did not regress. Histologically, the mass was consisted of fibrovascular connective tissue stalks and keratinized stratified squamous epithelium, and koilocytosis and intranuclear inclusion body were not shown in the epithelial layer. In addition, inflammatory changes were minimal in the tissue of mass. Based on these findings, this case was diagnosed as venereal squamous papilloma. As the treatments of TVT and papilloma differs, practitioners must be cautious with the diagnosis.
