Since the introduction of National Health Insurance(NHI) in 1977, it has grown rapidly and contributed to extend patient's access to the health care services. However, limited coverage for health care services of NHI has been ongoing challenge and private health insurance(PHI) has been rising as an alternative source of enhancing coverage and saving out-of-pocket(OOP) expenditure for patients. In this study, after controlling for socio-demographic, economic, health related variables, we identified the patients' healthcare utilization and subsequent OOP expenditure depending on their PHI enrollment and their enrollment types(fixed benefit, indemnity, fixed benefit plus indemnity). Data were collected from the 2010 Korean Health Panel. The unit of analysis was a member of household(n=13,324). Of the 13,324 cases, 70.7% of patients held PHI, in detail, fixed benefit(47.0%), indemnity(3.6%), fixed benefit plus indemnity(20.1%). Major findings showd that patients who enrolled in PHI used more outpatient services(outpatient visit, number of physician visit, number of examination) and spent more OOP expenditure than non-PHI patients. There were also differences of healthcare utilization and OOP expenditure among the types of PHI. In addition, PHI patients used more inpatient services(inpatient use, number of hospitalization, LOS), but there was no significant difference between PHI and non-PHI patients with regard to the OOP expenditure. Thus, we could not find any distinct relationship between the types of PHI and patients' tertiary hospital use. Policy-makers should need careful political deliberation for monitoring the effect of PHI on health care utilization and subsequent expenditure not only to improve patients' coverage but also to save their OOP expenditures.
ODA (Official Development Assistance) aims for practicing international humanitarianism in developing countries. However, ODA donors also seek to find convincing evidence meeting the national economic & political interests in the international community. In this regards, precise & unbiased estimation of the policy effects of ODA aid on the donors' exports to the recipient countries has recently become one of the primary concerns of the ODA donors, especially developing countries including Korea of which economy structure heavily relies on exports for economic growth. Based on the basic gravity model, this study empirically analyzes the effects of technical cooperation ODA delivering skills, knowledge and technical know-how on Korea's exports to the ODA recipient countries using 10-year panel data from 2007 to 2016. Specifically, by incorporating major variables affecting trade such as GDP, distance, FDI etc, the effect of technical cooperation ODA on Korea's exports to the ODA recipient countries is estimated with various kinds of panel models. As a result, technical cooperation ODA has a statistically significant impact on Korea's exports to ODA recipient countries, especially in the exports of intermediate goods. And the detail process of this black-boxed mechanism is scrutinized through case studies on Uzbekistan, The Philippines, and Morocco.
This study analyzes the effects Korea's grant aid to 53 African countries, focusing on its impacts on improving HDI (Human Development Index) of each recipient country, through panel data analysis. According to the OLS panel analysis, Korea's grant aid on information and communication (IC) sector showed positive and significant correlation with HDI, but aid on administrative system and environment showed negative correlation with HDI. Also, according to the fixed effect panel analysis, aid on IC sector showed positive correlation with HDI, but aid on administrative system showed negative correlation with HDI. In particular, effects of aid was different across the region. In North African region, aid on health improved HDI. However, in Sub-Saharan African region, aid on IC was more effective in improving HDI. This results imply that grand aid on Africa needs to be coordinated strategically across regions and sectors. This paper is meaningful in providing ways that can be mutually beneficial both to donor and recipient countries of grant aid.
The purpose of this study is to build an oyster outlook model. In particular, by limiting oyster items, it was designed as a partial equilibrium model based on a panel analysis of a fixed effect model on aquaculture facilities. The model was built with a dynamic ecological equation (DEEM) system that considers aquaculture and harvesting processes. As a result of the estimation of the initial aquaculture facilities based on the panel analysis, the elasticity of the remaining facility volume in the previous month was estimated to be 0.63. According to Nerlove's model, the adjustment coefficient was interpreted as 0.31 and the adjustment speed was analyzed to be very slow. Also, the relative income coefficient was estimated to be 2.41. In terms of elasticity, it was estimated as 0.08% in Gyeongnam, 0.32% in Jeonnam, and 1.98% in other regions. It was analyzed that the elasticity of relative income was accordingly higher in non-main production area. In case of the estimation of the monthly harvest facility volume, the elasticity of the remaining facility volume in the previous month was estimated as 0.53, and the elasticity of the farm-gate price was estimated as 0.23. Both fresh and chilled and frozen oysters' exports were estimated to be sensitive to fluctuations in domestic prices and exchange rates, while Japanese wholesale prices were estimated to be relatively low in sensitivity, especially to the exchange rate with Japan. In estimating the farm-gate price, the price elasticity coefficient of monthly production was estimated to be inelastic at 0.25.

This paper focuses on the hover performance experiment of a small-scale single rotor in partial ground conditions. In this study, small-scale rotor blade rotating device and floor panel are used to include partial ground effect. Thrust and torque were measured with varying collective pitch angles at fixed rotor rotating speed. The overlap distance between rotor and ground is d, the rotor diameter is D. It was shown that the ground effects have little effect on the rotor performance until d/D is 0.25. Four blade rotor has more increased thrust and more reduced power than those of two blade rotor because of stronger ground effect. In addition, it was also found that the thrust increases as a collective pitch angle become smaller. Based on these experiment results, we deduced new empirical equation considered blade number and partial ground effect.

As with fast growing globalization, Korean firms have increased their offshoring activities and more empirical research are needed to analyze the effect of offshoring on Korean firms' productivity. This study used "Survey of Business Activities", a firm-level panel data set surveyed by the Statistics Korea between 2006 and 2008, and estimated pooled OLS and Panel fixed effect model to examine the impact of offshoring on a firm's labor productivity. Unlike the previous studies on offshoring, we included in the analyses the firms in the service industry in addition to those in the manufacturing industry, and presented the comparative results. The results from pooled OLS model show that 1% increase in the share of offshoring output will lead to 0.03% increase in labor productivity. However, the results from Panel model show that the effects of offshoring on productivity is positive but statistically insignificant. Analyzing the manufacturing and the service sector separately, the main results based on Panel model can be summarized as follows: Offshoring has significant positive effects on firms' productivity in the manufacturing industry. Contrastingly, the impact of offshoring on firms' productivity in the service industry is estimated to be negative but statistically insignificant. Other than the share of offshoring output, most factors except headquarter location have positive effects on firms' productivity in both manufacturing and service industry.
Purpose - The purpose of this research is to examine the impact of job satisfaction related attributes on the level of life satisfaction of individuals with disabilities. Job satisfaction related elements consist of wage level, job stability, working condition, career development, and communication. Design/methodology/approach - For the data collection, this research made use of The Korean Panel Survey of Employment for people with disabilities, with the study period consisting of 2016-2018, and the number of observations measuring 4405. For the data analysis, the ordinary least square, fixed effect, and random effect regression models were used. Findings - The results indicate that the life satisfaction of people with disabilities is positively influenced by wage satisfaction, job stability satisfaction, working condition satisfaction, career development satisfaction, and communication satisfaction. Research implications or Originality - This study informs policy makers for the design of welfare for people with disability, specifically related to their labor conditions.
Purpose: This study uses data from the 12th~17th Korea Welfare Panel (2017~2022) to analyze changes in depression scores due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the factors that influenced depression scores according to employment type. Methods: The difference in depression scores according to employment types before COVID-19 (12th~14th) and after COVID-19 (15th~17th) was analyzed. A fixed-effect model analysis was conducted before and after the occurrence of COVID-19. Results: After the outbreak of COVID-19, job satisfaction and family life satisfaction influenced the depression scores of regular wage workers. After the outbreak of COVID-19, annual income, health status, and satisfaction with family life affected the depression scores of non-regular wage workers. After the outbreak of COVID-19, leisure life satisfaction and family relationship satisfaction influenced the depression scores of self-employed. Self-esteem played a role as a control variable in lowering the depression scores of regular and non-regular workers, but did not play a role as a control variable for self-employed. Conclusion: Rather than the direct impact of infectious diseases such as COVID-19, social and economic changes resulting from policies implemented to prevent the spread affect workers' depression, and the impact varies depending on the type of employment. When implementing policies to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in the future, policies that take employment type into consideration rather than uniform policies should be prepared, and measures for mental health also need to be prepared.

In this paper, we examine how the market potential affects wages in the regions of Korea. Following Fallah et al.(2011), we construct a panel data set spanning from 2013 to 2020. After removing the characteristics that do not vary by region, changes in average wages were analyzed using a fixed effects model. Controlling for such region-specific characteristics as human capital, industrial structure, and population, the impact of market potential on wages was analyzed by first examining the entire group of cities in Korea, followed by just metropolitan areas and then small cities only. The regional wages are seen to increase across the board when the market potential improves. It was also found that, when the market potential increases, the resulting wage hike of small cities tends to be greater than that of large metropolitan areas.

This study analyzes the effects of freight transportation income, capital, asset, non-operating expenses, and debt ratio on the debts of inner port freight transportation businesses through the GLS of panel regression analysis and the estimation of fixed effects model. The factors and hypotheses were established through a theoretical background review, and the financial statement and profit and loss data of inner port freight transportation businesses for 10 years from 2006 to 2015 were analyzed. The results showed that assets had positive effects on debts, and negative effects on capital, non-operating expenses, and debt ratio, but no effect on freight transportation income. This result empirically demonstrates the tendency of inner port freight transportation businesses to secure assets by increasing debts, creation of debt reduction leverage effect using non-operating expenses such as interest expenses through bank borrowing, and the adoption of management characteristics and financial operation method to lower the debt ratio by reducing capital more than debts. In future studies, it is necessary to analyze coastal port freight transportation business by industry (oil tankers, cargo ships, and barge ships), and regions such as East, West and South sea.
