A piezoelectric (PZ) biosensor system detecting Salmonella spp. was developed. The system consisted of an oscillator, a frequency counter and an antibody-immobilized quartz crystal. An anti-Salmonella antibody was immobilized on one gold. surface of the quartz crystal with protein A. Salmonella detection was made by measuring resonant frequency shift owing to a mass change by specific binding of microbial cells to the gold surface of the PZ crystal. The PZ antibody sensor was operated optimally at 0.1M phosphate buffer, pH 7.2 and $35^{\circ}C$. The sensor was quite specific to Salmonella spp. The obtained frequency shift was correlated with the Salmonella concentration in the range of $10^5{\sim}10^6\;CFU/mL$. The frequency shift increased further by addition of polystyrene beads. The Salmonella detection which is indicated by a steady-state microbial adsorption to the quartz crystal was accomplished within 50min.

All array of carbon paste-based electrodes was prepared by screen printing the carbon paste modified with metal oxides $(TiO_2,\;RuO_2,\;PbO_2,\;Ni(OH)_2)$ and Prussian blue (PB). An electronic tongue system was assembled with the carbon-paste electrode array, and applied to discriminate the tastes of various commercial beverages and foods by measuring the chronoamperometric responses to the samples diluted in 0.1M carbonate buffer (pH 9.6). The results were analyzed with principal component analysis(PCA) method and plotted on two dimensional PCA coordinate; it was apparent that the amperometric electronic tongue system could discriminate the types of various foods and beverages.
When voltage is applied on the metal layer of a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor, electric field excitation causes charge accumulation on the metal surface. This alters not only the optical properties of the metal but also the SPR angle. In this study we investigate this effectby performing experiments using solutions of various pH values, and we obtain the relation between total surface charge and SPR angle. The curves for the various pH conditions become coincident. We compare our results to those from an earlier space charge layer (SCL) model, and suggest a modified SCL model which explains our result well. This result will be useful in applications of SPR sensors, and in studying the optical properties of thin metal layers.
The textile industry in Korea, the dyeing sector is an energy-intensive sector and has low per-unit productivity due to its labor-intensive nature. If the defective rate of dyed fabrics is high, additional costs are incurred due to an increase in production cost due to re-dyeing. Therefore, the goal of the dyeing factory was to minimize the defect rate rather than to save energy. It was difficult to check the dyeing state of the fabric in real time due to the risk of accidents due to burns or pressure when dyeing in a high-temperature and high-pressure environment. In this paper, a complex sensor that can measure the exhaustion rate of dye solution in the dyeing machine using turbidity, pH, and conductivity sensors was proposed, and the experimental method and experimental results were analyzed.

Nerve gas sensor based on tin oxide was fabricated and its characteristics were examined. Target gas is dimethyl methyl phosphonate(C$_3$$H_{9}$$O_3$P, DMMP) that is simulant gas of nerve gas. Sensing materials were Sn $O_2$ added a-Al$_2$$O_3$ with 0∼20wt.% and were physically mixed each material. They were deposited by screen printing method on alumina substrate. The sensor device was consisted of sensing electrode with interdigit(IDT) type in front and a heater in back side. Total size of device was 7${\times}$10${\times}$0.6㎣. Crystallite size & phase identification and morphology of fabricated Sn $O_2$ powders were analyzed by X-ray diffraction and by a scanning electron microscope, respectively. Fabricated sensor was measured as flow type and resistance change of sensing material was monitored as real time using LabVIEW program. The best sensitivity was 75% at adding 4wt.% $\alpha$-Al$_2$$O_3$, operating temperature 30$0^{\circ}C$ to DMMP 0.5ppm. Response and recovery time were about 1 and 3min., respectively. Repetition measurement was very good with $\pm$3% in full scale.TEX>$\pm$3% in full scale.

Preparation and morphology control of $TiO_2$ nano powders for gas sensor applications are investigated. $TiO_2$ nanopowders with rutile and anatase structures were prepared by controlling the pH value of a precursor solution without any heat treatment. The mean particle size of $TiO_2$ powders were below 10nm. The prepared $TiO_2$ nano powders were hydrothermal treated by NaOH solution. The sample was washed in HCl solution. As a result and $TiO_2$ nanotubes were formed. The lengths of $TiO_2$ nanotube were $1{\mu}m$ and the diameters were 10nm. Crystal structure and microstructure of $TiO_2$ nanotube were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). As-prepared $TiO_2$ nanotube powders have several advantages of nano particle size and high surface area and could be a prominent candidate for nano-sensors. The sensitivity of $TiO_2$ nanotube sensor was measured for toluene and NO in this study.

A scandium(III) porphyrin-based fluoride-selective potentiometric sensor and its application in the analysis of hydrofluoric acid is described. Scandium(III) octaethylporphyrin, an ionophore recently developed for the optical fluoride sensor, was employed as a host molecule for the selective binding with fluoride in the plasticized PVC membrane. Nernstian response for $F^-$ between $10^{-4.6}$ to $10^{-1}$ M was observed at a glycine-phosphate buffer (pH 3.0). The selectivity pattern was observed as $F^-$, salicylate $\gg$$SCN^-$ > $Cl^-$, $Br^-$, $NO_3{^-}$, $ClO_4{^-}$, which is consistent with the binding constant data measured in the plasticized PVC membrane based on a sandwich membrane method. This highly selective and reversible fluoride-sensitive electrode was employed for the analysis of hydrofluoric acid (HF). A disposable differential-type HF sensor was fabricated on the screen-printed electrode and demonstrated its ability to detect the neutral HF in the acidic solution.

The analytical method to determine europium(III) ion in aqueous solution by fluorescence spectroscopy based upon the conformational change of calmodulin in the presence of the analyte has been studied. The fiber optic chemical sensor used in this study was constructed by entrapping a fluorescein-labeled calmodulin solution, EGTA, buffer solution at the common end of a bifurcated fiber optic bundle by means of a dialysis membrane. The calibration curve to determine europium(III) ion was obtained when concentration of calmodulin, concentration of EGTA, Tris-HCl buffer solution, pH, excitation wavelength and fluorescence wavelength were $5.0{\times}10^{-5}M$, 0.50 mM, 5.0 mM, 7.0, 495 nm and 520 nm, respectively. The detection limit was $1.0{\times}10^{-11}M$ and the working range of the calibration curve for the sensor was $1.0{\times}10^{-11}M{\sim}1.0{\times}10^{-9}M$. The response time was 15 minutes. For the determination of europium(III) ion by the present method, $Na^+$ and $K^+$ ions did not interfere but $Ca^{2+}$ ion seriously interfered.

In this paper, we developed pressure mesuring system for powered wheelchair and tried to validate the usefulness of developed system by pressure measuring experiment with 3D motion analysis. This system consist of 64ch seat FSR(Force Sensitive Resistance) sensor unit, 30ch*2 armchair FSR sensor unit, analog and digital hardware board, 2ch rotary encoder unit and realtime signal processing & display S/W. And each data acquired from this system has sampling frequency of 12bit, 10Hz. Pressure measuring experiment for 10 persons who use wheelchair in real life was performed in the 3D vision analysis room. From the experiment, we obtained result that the center line of body inclined to outside direction during powered-wheelchair rotate any direction.
$112^{\circ}$ rot. x-cut $LiTaO_{3}$ wafer was used as the substrate of SAW gas sensor. Dual delay line SAW device with IDTs which consist of the reference delay line and the sensing delay line was fabricated using photolithigraphy. Each IDTs had 10 finger pairs and finger spacing is 10 microns. One delay line channel is the reference, while the second is the sensing channel with Pb-phthalocyanine film in the propagation path. Pb-phthalocyanine film which is p-type organic semiconductor was evaporated in $10^{-5}$ torr vacuum using shadow mask selectively. Dual delay line oscillator was constructed by using the rf amplifier and AGC. Frequency of the IDTs had the range of $87{\sim}$89 MHz oscillation frequency. Oscillation frequency shifts were investigated as a function of the temperature and the concentration of $NO_{2}$ gas.
