A Note on Marcinkiewicz Integral Operators on Product Domains

  • In this paper we establish the Lp boundedness of Marcinkiewicz integral operators on product domains with rough kernels satisfying a weak size condition. We assume that our kernels are supported on surfaces generated by curves more general than polynomials and convex functions. This generalizes and extends previous results.

A Microbiological Study on the Tap Water in Seoul (서울시 수도수 중의 위생물학적 조사연구)

  • This study was carried out to investigate Water Temperature, Residual Chlorine, Coliform Groups, and the Standard Plate Counts of Water Supply Areas provided by 7 Water Purification Plant (W.P.P) in Seoul from September 20, 1979 through October 20, 1979. The results were summarized below: 1) The mean water temperature of the 63 Water Samples was 19.8$\circ$C, the mean pH 7.18, and the mean residual chlorine concentration 0.52 ppm by each Water Supply Areas. There is no statistically significant differences between the WPP Areas, but there is significant differences between water supply areas. 2) 30(47.6%) out of the 63 Water Samples were Standard Plate Counts free and 33 Samples (52.4%) were contaminated by Standard Plate Counts. 30 (47.6%) out of 33 samples showed the existence of Standard Plate Counts less than 15 and the other 3 samples 15-30. 3) 2 (3.2%) out of the 63 Samples had the coliform. Those 2 Samples had 2 and 6 coliform group counts per 50ml respectively both of them were 0.1ppm in residual chlorine. 4) There is correlation among Water Temperature, pH, Residual Chlorine, Standard Plate Counts, and Coliform Groups. The Coefficient of Correlation(r) between Water Temperature & Residual Chlorine was 0.147, 0.240 between Water Temperature & Standard plate Counts and 0.215 between pH & Standard Plate Counts. These correlations are statistically no significant, But the correlation of coefficient between pH & Residual Chlorine was -0.291 which is showed significant correlation at p<0.05. The coefficient of correlation between Residual Chlorine & Standard Plate Counts was -0.441 which is showed Negative Correlation Statistically Significant difference at p<0.01.

  • Let 1 ≤ p, q < ∞ be fixed, and let R = [rjk] be an infinite scalar matrix such that 1 ≤ rjk < ∞ and supj,k rjk < ∞. Let 𝓑(𝑙p, 𝑙q) be the set of all bounded linear operator from 𝑙p into 𝑙q. For a fixed Banach algebra 𝐁 with identity, we define a new vector space SRp,q(𝐁) of infinite matrices over 𝐁 and a paranorm G on SRp,q(𝐁) as follows: let $$S^R_{p,q}({\mathbf{B}})=\{A:A^{[R]}{\in}{\mathcal{B}}(l_p,l_q)\}$$ and $G(A)={\parallel}A^{[R]}{\parallel}^{\frac{1}{M}}_{p,q}$, where $A^{[R]}=[{\parallel}a_{jk}{\parallel}^{r_{jk}}]$ and M = max{1, supj,k rjk}. The existance of SRp,q(𝐁) equipped with the paranorm G(·) including its completeness are studied. We also provide characterizations of β -dual of the paranormed space.

Effects of the Comfort Promotion Program for Prevention of Delirium among Elderly Patients Hospitalized in Long-term Care Hospital (요양병원 입원 노인환자의 섬망예방을 위한 안위증진 프로그램 개발 및 효과 검증)

  • Delirium is an acute confused state associated with poor outcomes among hospitalized long-term care hospital elderly patients. This study was conducted to examine the effects of acomfort promotion program based on Kolcaba's comfort theory for prevention of delirium among elderly patients who have been hospitalized in long-term care hospitals. The study used was a quasi-experimental type, with two groups of patients; those who received their usual care plus comfort nursing intervention (n=34) and those who only received usual care methods. Using the IBMSPSS/PC (Version 21), the homogeneity of the control and intervention group wereevaluated by the chi-squared test and an independent t-test, and all collected data wereanalyzed. Hypotheses were tested by independent t-tests and repeated measures of ANOVA. Delirium occurred at a rate of 2.9% (1/34) in the intervention group and 14% (5/34) -in the control group ($x^2=3.98$, p=0.047). The severity of the delirium in theintervention group was lower than that of the control (t=2.27, p=.027). The duration of delirium was 2days in the intervention group and 2-10days in the control group, indicating delirium in the intervention group lasted for a significantly shorter period ($x^2=3.22$, p=0.048). According to the change of time, the intervention group showed improvement in all areas including comfort scores (F=108.85, p<0.001), anxiety scores (F=63.39, p<0.001), depression scores (F=89.78, p<0.001), quality of sleep scores (F=63.63, p<0.001), and pain scores (F=93.64, p<0.001). In conclusion, elderly patients who were admitted to nursing homes were advised to participate in nursing intervention,which effectivelyprevented delirium based on the Kolcaba's comfort theory of physical, psychological, spiritual, social, cultural and environmental approaches to prevent delirium. Therefore, it is necessary to extend the program for prevention of delirium in the physical, psychological, spiritual, social, cultural, and environmental contexts to prevent delirium in geriatric hospitalized elderly patients.

${\beta}-galactosidase$ Activity of Lactobacillus spp. from Pickles (젓갈에서 분리한 Lactobacillus spp.의 ${\beta}-galactosidase$ 특성)

  • Two strains of Lactobacillus(L.) casfi and one strain of L. Pentosus, which were isolated from pickles, were used to investigate in studing their characteristics of ${\beta}-galactosidase$. The preferable carbon sources and pH of the MRS media for enzyme production from L. casei No.10 was found to be 1.0% lactose and pH 7.5, from L. Pentosus No.63 was 1.0% galactose and pH 7.5, and from L. casei No.36 was 1.0% lactose and pH 6.5, respectively. The maximum enzyme production from each strain was found after 48 hours culture at $30^{\circ}C$ in a medium with preferable carbon source. The optimum reaction temperature with substrate for ${\beta}-galactosidase$ activity was found at $60^{\circ}C$ for all three strains . The stability of enzyme from L. casei No.36 was found to be at $45^{\circ}C$, from L. Pentosus No.63 was found at $55^{\circ}C$. This stability from L. casei No.36 was found at $40^{\circ}C$, but it was reduced to 60% at $55^{\circ}C$. These stabilities of enzymes remained about 90% at $40^{\circ}C$ for all three strains. The optimal pH for enzyme activities was found to be pH 6.5 for all three strains. Enzyme activity remained over 90% for L. casei No.10 at $pH\;5.0{\sim}6.0$, for L. casei No.36 at $pH\;5.0{\sim}8.0$, and for L. pentosus No.63 at $pH\;6.0{\sim}7.0$.

Properties of Aspergillus niger Protease Isolated from Katsuobushi (Katsuobushi에서 분리한 Aspergillus niger protease의 효소학적성질)

  • Protease was purified from Aspergillus niger propagated on katsuobushi. The optimal pH and temperature of the enzyme were 7.2 and $45^{\circ}C$, respectively. The enzyme was stable at $pH\;5{\sim}8$ and at below $40^{\circ}C$. Enzyme activity was promoted by $K^{-}\;and\;Fe^{2+}$, whereas it was inhibited by $Hg^{2},\;Zn^{2},\;Mn^{2}\;and\;Cd^{2}$. The acidic, basic and neutral amino acid compositions were found to be 22.63, 13.57 and 63.80%, respectively. The content of nonpolar, poler and sulfur-containing amino acids were 39.72, 20.03 and 9.53% respectively, and aspartic and glutamic acids were abundant. The molecular weight was 42,000 and isoelectric point was estimated pH 5.6.

Information Theoretic Approach to Middle Korean [ß] (정보이론 기반 중세국어 'ㅸ'의 음운론적 대립에 대한 연구)

  • This study explores contrastive relation among voiced bilabial fricative [${\ss}$], voiceless bilabial stop [p] and glide [w] in Middle Korean consonant system based on Probabilistic Model. Preceding researches about voiced bilabial fricative [${\ss}$] proposed two influential arguments. One is voiced bilabial fricative [${\ss}$] was an independent phoneme, the other is it was not an independent phoneme but an allophone of voiceless bilabial stop [p] in Middle Korean. This study applies Probabilistic Phonological Relationship Model (PPRM) for solving the problem of dichotomy about contrastive and allophonic relations. The analysis result of the contrastive entropy by PPRM suggests that voiced bilabial fricative [${\ss}$] was just an allophone of voiceless bilabial stop [p] or glide [w] in Middle Korean. Comparing the entropies between [p] and other consonants with the entropies between [${\ss}$] and other consonants, a continuum defined in terms of entropy reveals that [${\ss}$] in Middle Korean was more allophonic than phonemic.

An Upper Bound for the Probability of Generating a Finite Nilpotent Group

  • Let G be a finite group and let ν(G) be the probability that two randomly selected elements of G produce a nilpotent group. In this article we show that for every positive integer n > 0, there is a finite group G such that ${\nu}(G)={\frac{1}{n}}$. We also classify all groups G with ${\nu}(G)={\frac{1}{2}}$. Further, we prove that if G is a solvable nonnilpotent group of even order, then ${\nu}(G){\leq}{\frac{p+3}{4p}}$, where p is the smallest odd prime divisor of |G|, and that equality exists if and only if $\frac{G}{Z_{\infty}(G)}$ is isomorphic to the dihedral group of order 2p where Z(G) is the hypercenter of G. Finally we find an upper bound for ν(G) in terms of |G| where G ranges over all groups of odd square-free order.
