There is Increasing world-wide interest in diesel particulate filters (DPF) because of their proven effectiveness in reducing exhaust smoke and particulate emissions. Fine particulates have been linked to human health . DPF use requires a means to secure the bum-out of the accumulated soot, a process called regeneration. If this is not achieved, the engine cannot continue to operate. A number of techniques are available, but most are complex, expensive or have a high electrical demand. The use of fuel additives to catalyse soot bum-out potentially solves the problem of securing regeneration reliably and at low cost. Work on organo-metallic fuel additives has shown that certain metals combine to glove exceptional regeneration performance. Best performance was achieved with a combination of iron and strontium based compounds. Tests were carried out un a bed engine and on road vehicles, which demonstrated effective and reliable regeneration from a tow dose fuel additive, using a single passive DPF. No control valves, flow diverters. heaters or other devices were employed to assist regeneration. Independent particle size measurements showed that there were no harmful side effects from the use of the iron-strontium fuel additive.

Optimal methods for designing multiplierless IIR filters with cascaded prefilter-equalizer structures are proposed for narrowband applications. Assuming that an U filter consists of a cyclotomic Polynomial (CP) prefilter and an all-Pole equalizer based on interpolated first order polynomial (IFOP), in the proposed method the prefilter and equalizer are simultaneously designed using mixed integer linear programming (MILP). The resulting filter is a cascaded filter with minimal complexity. In addition, MtP tries to minimize both computational complexity and phase response non-linearity. Design examples demonstrate that the proposed methods produce a more efficient cascaded prefilter-equalizer than existing methods.

Atmospheric particulate matter (A.P.M.) was collected on quartz fiber filters from March 1985 to February 1986 at Chung-Ang University according to particle size using Andersen high-volume air smapler, and benzo (a) pyrene concentration in these particulates were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography. The annual arithmetic mean concentration of A.P.M. was 115.50$\mug/m^3$. The annual arithmetic mean concentrations of coarse particles and fine particles in A.P.M. were 52.54$\mum/m^3$ and 62.96$\mum/m^3$ respectively. THe annual arithmetic mean concentration of benzo(a)pyrene in A.P.M. was 1.44$ng/m^3$. THe annual arithmetic mean concentrations of benzo(a)pyrene in coarse particles and fine particles were 0.05 $ng/m^3$ and 1.39 $ng/m^3$ respectively. Thus, the concentration of benzo(a)pyrene showed maldistribution of 96.53% in fine particle. A.P.M. showed wide fluctuation according to the season. The concentration of A.P.M. was lowest in summer and high in spring and winter. Coarse and fine particle concentrations in A.P.M. were highest in spring and winter, respectively. The concentrations of benzo(a)pyrene was highest in winter and lowest in summer. The concentrations of benzo(a)pyrene in fine and coarse particles were highest in winter and spring, respectively.
We cultured the rabbit inner medullary collecting duct (IMCD) cells as monolayers on collagen-coated membrane filters, and investigated distribution of the P2Y receptors by analyzing nucleotide-induced short circuit current $(I_{sc})$ responses. Exposure to different nucleotides of either the apical or basolateral surface of cell monolayers stimulated $I_{sc}.$ Dose-response relationship and cross-desensitization studies suggested that at least 3 distinct P2Y receptors are expressed asymmetrically on the apical and basolateral membranes. A $P2Y_2-like$ receptor, which responds to UTP and ATP, is expressed on both the apical and basolateral membranes. In addition, a uracil nucleotide receptor, which responds to UDP and UTP, but not ATP, is expressed predominantly on the apical membrane. In contrast, a $P2Y_1-like$ receptor, which responds to ADP and 2-methylthio-ATP, is expressed predominantly on the basolateral membrane. These nucleotides stimulated intracellular cAMP production with an asymmetrical profile, which was comparable to that in the stimulation of $I_{sc}.$ Our results suggest that the adenine and uracil nucleotides can interact with different P2Y nucleotide receptors that are expressed asymmetrically on the apical and basolateral membranes of the rabbit IMCD cells, and that both cAMP- and $Ca^{2+}-dependent$ signaling mechanisms underlie the stimulation of $I_{sc}$.
The change of pressure drop according to the change in the inlet concentration, pulse interval, and injection distance of pulse air jet type bag filters, and the effect of venturi installation are as follows. The pressure drop with the range of 30 to $50mmH_2O$ varies according to the injection distance with 30, 50, 70, 90sec and the inlet concentration of venture built-in fabric filters. For the lower concentration of 0.5g/㎥ and 1g/㎥, the pressure $drop(\DeltaP)$ was stable 60 to 90minutes after operation. For the higher concentration of 3g/㎥, as $\DeltaP$ continues to go up, pulse interval should be set shorter than 30 seconds. The pressure drop with the injection distance of 1l0mm, when inlet dust concentration is 0.5g/㎥ or 1g/㎥, is 1.3 to 2 lower than with the injection distance of 50, 160, and 220mm, which means that the inflow amount of the secondary air by the instant acceleration is large. The injection distance of 2g/㎥ and 3g/㎥ has the similar pressure distribution. The higher inlet concentration is, the more important pulse interval is than injection distance. The pressure drop has proved to be larger when inlet concentration is lower and injection distance closer, on condition that the venturi is installed. The change in the pressure drop was smallest when injection distance was 50mm, followed by 220mm, 160mm, and 110mm.
The objective of this study it to evaluate the microbial safety in rapid sand filters adapted in most drinking water treatment plants. The potential pathogens to cause water quality problems Are presumed to be Giardia and Gryptosporidium. They look like particles in view of their size. It has been reported that if the number of particles (larger than 2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in water) is less than 100 per mL and its turbidity is below 0.1 NTU, it is considered as a safe water in terms of pathogens. In order to achieve such a good water quality. filter-aids (chemicals) were added to the inlet-channel of filter and their effectiveness was evaluated on the basis of water quality factors such as turbidity and particle counting. This study was conducted in she three steps of experiment: jar test. pilot plant test and real water treatment plant test (P plant in seoul). The experiment reult of the P water treatment showed that cationic polyamine was the most effective in the removal of particles and turbidity at the does of 0.25 mg/L. The turbidity without filer-aids showed in the range of 0.12 ~0.17 NTU during filtration and 0.14 NTU on the average. However. with addition of polyamine, the turbidity represented below(or less than) 0.1 NTU after 20 min in the start of filtration and kept 0.08 NTU on the average. On the other hand, as for number of particles, while no filter-aids led to the range of 111 ~270 per mL and 190 on the average, addition of polydmine led to 113 per mL on talc average, and kept below100 per mL after 20 min in the start of filtration.
An experimental apparatus has been designed and prepared in order to measure a pressure loss coefficient of hydropneumatic components, which is an important parameter in a hydropneumatic system Blow-down system has been adopted for the experimental apparatu to meet the high flow energy requirement as well as the apparatus safety. Especially, pressure loss coefficient measurements of pyrostarter filters have been performed and the pressure loss coefficient, K of CQSF has been experimentally acquired. Then it is shown that the turbine inlet pressure $p_2$, which is predicted from the measured K, is in accord with the results of combustion tests. Moreover, the relation between K and combustion pressure $p_0$ has been presented and it is disclosed that the relation accords well with the results of combustion tests. It is anticipated that K of a filter could play a role in PS size reduction by rising up the combustion pressure resulting in increasing the burning rate of solid propellant.

We have analyzed infrared (IR) images of Jupiter which was observed at the McDonald Observatory, Texas, U.S.A., during the P/SHoemaker-LEvy 9 (SL9) impact period and about one week after the last impact. The IR images were obtained on the 2.7m telescope using a NICMOS array with filters to isolate the $1.5{\mu}m\;NH_3\; band,\;the\;2.3{\mu}m\;CH_4\;band,\;the\;2.12{\mu}m\;H_2\;S(0)$ pressure-induced absorption, and the continua at $1.58{\mu}m\;and\;2.0{\mu}m$ (short K-band). All images except those with the $1.58{\mu}m$ continuum filter show bright impact sites against the relatively dark Jovian disk near the impact latitude of about $45^{\circ}$ S. This implies that dusts originated from the impacts reflect the solar radiation at high altitudes before absorbed by stratospheric $CH_4,\;NH_3 \;or\;H_2$. The impact sites observed with the $2.3{\mu}m$ filter are conspicuously bright against a very dark background. The morphology of impact sites, G, L, and H at 2.3 and $2.12{\mu}m$ filters shows clearly an asymmetric structure toward the incident direction of the comet fragments, in agreement with the studies of visible impact images obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope. Comparisons of reflectances of G, L, and H sites with simple radiative transfer models suggest that optically thick dust layers were formed at high altitudes at which methane absorption attenuates incoming sunlight only by about $1\%$. The dust layers in these sites seem to form at about the same altitude regardless of the magnitude of the impacts, but they appear to descend gradually after the impacts. The dust layers have optical depths of 2-5, according to the models.

Recently, digital image processing is being applied in various areas of broadcasting, communication, computer graphic and medical science. But, degradation of images occurs in the process of digital image acquisition, processing and transmission. Therefore, in order to remove the mixed noise, this paper suggested the image restoration algorithm to process salt and pepper noise with weighted filters according to 4 direction pixel changes after judging the noise and to process AWGN with weighted filters which have individually different characteristics. Regarding the processed results by applying Boat images which were corrupted by salt and pepper noise(P=40%), suggested algorithm showed the improvement by 1.33[dB], 1.41[dB], 0.51[dB] respectively compared with the existing CWMF, AWMF, MMF.

With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, many new technologies are being utilized. In particular, video signals are used in various fields. However, when transmitting and receiving video signals, salt and pepper noise and additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) occur for multiple reasons. Failure to remove such noise when performing image processing can cause problems. Generally, filters such as CWMF, MF, and AMF remove noise. However, these filters perform somewhat poorly in the high-density noise domain and cause smoothing, resulting in slightly lower retention of the edge components. In this paper, we propose an algorithm by effectively eliminating salt and pepper noise using a modified weight filter using standard deviation. In order to prove the noise reduction performance of the proposed algorithm, we compared it with the existing algorithm using PSNR and magnified images.
