Optimal processes to remove chromaticity at E water treatment plant(WTP) mainly caused by algae of E lake in Jeju island were investigated based on lab-tests of chlorine and ozone oxidation. 42.9% of chromaticity of filtered water was removed by chlorine oxidation under pH 7.0~8.0, dose of 1.0 mg/L with contact time of 30~60 min. On the other hand, chromaticity removal was 71.4% when post-ozone dose of 0.9~1.9 mg/L and pH 9.0, while it was increased to 86.7% under post-ozone dose of 3.1~7.3 mg/L and pH 9.0. However, there was no significant chromaticity removal efficiency increase when ozone doses were higher than 5.0 mg/L regardless of feeding point(i.e., pre-ozonation and post-ozonation) and pHs(i.e., 7.0 and 9.0.) under the experimental conditions. Based on the results, chlorine oxidation using existing chlorination facilities at the WTP is recommended for lower chromaticity while ozone oxidation is recommended for higher chromaticity by installing new ozone feeding facilities.
A study on the fouling control by periodical ozone-scrubbing was conducted in a membrane filtration process for drinking water treatment. Hydrophilic hollow fiber polyethylene membrane with pore size of $0.1{\mu}m$ and its surface area of $0.42m^2$ was used. Dead-End filtration method was selected to obtain high efficiency of energy. Laboratory prepared synthetic raw water with kaolin was used and the membranes were scrubbed by ozone once in an hour and once in two hours. When the duration of ozone scrubbing was increased from 10 seconds to 20 seconds, the rate of membrane fouling was significantly decreased. Although the frequency of ozone-scrubbing was reduced from once in an hour to once in two hours. the effect of fouling control was unchanged. However, ozone-scrubbing was not effective after a membrane was fouled and washed with detergent for reuse. Among several possible working effects of ozone, bactericidal effect was confirmed to be the primary reason of fouling control.
Laboratory scale experiments were carried out to delineate the effects of liquid phases, such as soil water and light nonaqeous phase liquid (LNAPL) on the transport of gaseous ozone in unsaturated soil. Soil water enhanced the transport of ozone due to water film effect, which prevents direct reaction between soil particles and gaseous ozone, and increased water content reduced the breakthrough time of ozone because of increased average linear velocity and decreased air-water interface area. Diesel fuel as LNAPL also played a similar role with water film, so the breakthrough time of ozone in diesel-contaminated soil was significantly reduced compared with uncontaminated soil. Ozone breakthrough time was retarded with increased diesel concentration, however, because of high reactivity of diesel fuel with ozone. In unsaturated soil containing two liquids of soil water and LNAPL, the transport of ozone was mainly influenced by nonwetting fluid, diesel fuel in this study.
The Ozone oxidation process was applied to increase the efficiency of reuse process when treating the secondary effluent by the membrane system. This paper focus on decreasing efficiency of membrane fouling, because of membrane fouling reduction by ozone and evaluation of application of the ozone oxidation. The feed water was secondary effluent from BNR process. The result shows that the ozone pretreatment can reduce membrane fouling effectively. Also, the improvement of treated water quality was obvious. The reduction of the membrane fouling led decrease of following pollutant and increase of lnner adsorptive ability of hydrophilic organic matter and decrease of molecular weight. MF membrane process alone can meet the domestic reuse water standards. And ozone pretreatment process also can increase the removal rates of turbidity, COD, nitrogen, and color.
The behavior of ozone in $NH_4OH$ was investigated to evaluate the solution as a cleaning chemical of the silicon wafer. The solubility of ozone in DI(Deionized) water increased as the oxygen flow-rate decreased and ozone generator power increased. Ozone in DI water showed solubility of 100 ppm or higher at room temperature. Ozone concentration was stabilized at the range of ${\pm}2ppm$ by controlling oxygen flow rate and ozone generator power. On the contrary, the solubility of ozone in $NH_4OH$ was very low and strongly depended on the concentration of $NH_4OH$ and pH. The redox potential of ozone was saturated within 10 minutes in DI water and decreased rapidly with the addition of $NH_4OH$. The behavior of ozone in $NH_4OH$ is well explained by redox potential calculation.

With the degradation of water quality and, at the same time increased water usage, the sources of high quality, for examples, river/stream, municipal reservoir, wells, artisan and surface water, are diminishing. Therefore, the importance of water quality has been emphasized over the years through publications and various literature sources. Even though considerable research has resulted in significant strides for providing interpretive information and mitigation strategies for improvement of waters, the quality of which is still questionable. This study aims to propose a completely independent self-contained system for purifying waters, solar-powered ozone generator. It is a semi-permanent and cost effective environmental solution. Functions of ozone treatment are: 1) to maintain oxidative flexibility, 2) remove harmful chemicals, wastes, and other substances, and 3) prevent epizootic microbial outbreaks. Recent advances in technology have allowed the development of the practical, self-contained and independent solar powered device. Solar electrical producing panels that charge batteries are the key to using these systems anywhere electrical power is not available. This paper invites the readers to examine the problem and consider the viable, proven solution the solar powered ozone purifying system. This paper also introduces basic concept and background of solar powered ozone generators and examine its feasibility for improving water quality in rivers and streams.

Ozone is an important atmospheric pollutant that is occurred in tropospheric chemical process and it also affects the human health and plants. For a correct application of abatement strategies for ozone, it is necessary to understand the factors that control atmospheric ozone removal by dry deposition processes. The present study investigates the numerical simulation of the dry deposition velocity (V$^{d}$ ) obtained from PNU/DEM (Pusan National University Deposition Model). PNU/DEM includes seasonal categories, meteorological factors, surface properties and land-use types and proposes for an accurate numerical computation. And, this study examines the ability of the PNU/DEM to compute V$_{d}$ of ozone over water surfaces and evaluates PNU/DEM by comparing its estimated V$_{d}$ to past observed V$_{d}$ over water. The parametrization was found to yield V$_{d}$ values generally in good agreement with the observations for the deciduous forest and the coniferous forest. Ozone is removed slowly at wet surface or water due to its low water solubility. Therefore V$_{d}$ values over water were lower than Vd values over the other surfaces. Comparison of PNU/DEM simulated V d values to observations of ozone V$_{d}$ that have been reported in the literature implies that PNU/DEM produces realistic results.

Ozone concentrations in water and air, and resulting disinfective properties, were measured following generation by either an ozone generator or a low-temperature dielectric barrier discharge plasma generator. In freshwater, ozone concentrations of 0.81 and 0.48 mg/L $O_3$ were observed after the ozone and plasma generators had been operated for five minutes, respectively. Higher levels of dissolved $O_3$ were attained more easily with the ozone generator. In seawater, both systems were capable of creating concentrations greater than 3.00 mg/L $O_3$ after 5minutes of operation. Higher ozone levels were attained more easily in seawater than in freshwater. Rates of bacterial sterilization in seawater after three minutes were 96% and 88%, using the plasma and ozone generators, respectively. In freshwater, higher concentrations of ozone were released into the atmosphere by the ozone generator than by the plasma generator. In creating equivalent levels of dissolved ozone in freshwater, the plasma generator released 4.5 times more ozone into the atmosphere than did the ozone generator. This shows that ozone generators are more effective than plasma generators for creating ozonated water. For the same concentration of dissolved ozone in seawater, more ozone was released into the atmosphere using the ozone generator than using the plasma generator. Therefore, with regard to air pollution, plasma generators seem to be less expensive than ozone generators.

A process for removal of photoresist(PR) m semiconductor manufacturing using water vapor with ozone is presented. For the realization of the ozone/vapor mixture process, high concentration ozone generator and process facilities have developed. As a result of the silicon wafer PR strip test, we confirmed the high efficiency PR strip rates of 400nm/mm or more at the ozone concentration of 16wt%/$O_2$. The ozone/vapor mixture process is more effective than the ozonized water Immersion process.
Since 1989, Advanced drinking water treatment processes began to build in Korea, especially the water treatment plants around the Nak-dong river stream due to sequential pollutant accidents. Moreover, Advanced drinking water treatment processes, ozone and GAC, are again to be built in water treatment plants around Han-river stream to control taste and odor, micro pollutants. However, there are still a lot of discussion to decide the processes to apply for advanced treatment. Thus there are still need to understand clearly on the cost evaluation of each advanced treatment processes. The cost evaluation was accomplished based on the data of six water treatment plants which are currently being either operating or constructing. Exceptionally, PAC(Powdered Activated Carbon) process was evaluated with cost estimation from construction company. The capital cost per unit volume of ozone process was significantly decreased as the treatment capacity increased. The capital cost was in the order of GAC, ozone and GAC. The operation cost decreased in the order of PAC, GAC and ozone. The total cost considering present value shows that ozone process covers 84% of ozone and GAC process for $30,000m^3/d$ capacity while it covers less than 35% for over 140 thousands $m^3/d$ capacity. Comparing GAC only, and ozone/GAC process, ozone/GAC process is more cost effective for high capacity water treatment plant.
