  • $Bi_2Sr_2Ca_{n-1}Cu_nO_x$(n=0, 1, 2)superconducting thin films have been fabricated by atomic layer-by-layer deposition at an ultra low growth rate using IBS(Ion Beam Sputtering) method. During the deposition, 90 mol% ozone gas of typical pressure of $1{\sim}9{\times}10^{-5}$ Torr are supplied with ultraviolet light irradiation for oxidation. XRD and RHEED investigations reveal out that a buffer layer with some different compositions is formed at the early deposition stage of less than 10 units cell and then Bi-2201 oriented along the c-axis is grown.

항공관측자료를 이용한 2006년 멕시코시티 주변 기류의 물리-화학적 성질에 따른 오존의 광화학적 특성 연구 (A Study of Ozone Photochemistry in Different Physico-chemical Properties of Air Masses around the Mexico City Metropolitan Area (MCMA) Using Aircraft Observations in 2006)

  • Photochemical characteristics of ozone ($O_3$) and its precursors such as $O_3$ budget and $O_3-NO_x$-VOC sensitivity were analyzed in different physico-chemical properties of air masses around the Mexico City Metropolitan Area (MCMA) using aircraft observations during March 2006. The physico-chemical properties of air masses were categorized into 5 groups: boundary layer (BL), biomass burning (BB), free tropospheric continent (FTCO) and marine (FTMA), and Tula industrial complex (TIC). Results from the $O_3$ budget analysis indicated that $O_3$ production for BL, FTCO, and FTMA (for BB and TIC) was mainly controlled by a photochemical production pathway, a reaction of NO with $HO_2$ (with $RO_2$), while the main pathway of photochemical $O_3$ destruction for BL, FTCO, and FTMA (for BB and TIC) was a reaction of $HO_2$ with $O_3$ (of $H_2$ with $O^1$(D)). In addition, most of air mass categories (especially FTCO) were estimated to be $NO_x$-sensitive for $O_3$ production with lower $NO_y$, higher ratios of the other indicator species (e.g., $O_3/(NO_y-NO_x$), $H_2O_2/HNO_3$, etc.), and the lower removal rate of radicals ($\leq$0.5) by the reaction of OH with $NO_2$ than those of the VOC-sensitive condition.

Growth and Characterization of Conducting ZnO Thin Films by Atomic Layer Deposition

  • ZnO thin films were grown on Si or $SiO_2$/Si substrates, at growth temperatures ranging from 150 to $400^{\circ}C$, by atomic layer deposition (ALD) using diethylzinc and water. Despite the large band gap of 3.3 eV, the ALD ZnO films show high n-type conductivity, i.e. low resistivity in the order of $10^{-3}\;{\Omega}cm$. In order to understand the high conductivity of ALD ZnO films, the films were characterized with X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, elastic recoil detection, Rutherford backscattering, Photoluminescence, and Raman spectroscopy. In addition, the various analytical data of the ZnO films were compared with those of ZnO single crystal. According to our analytical data, metallic zinc plays an important role for the high conductivity in ALD ZnO films. Therefore when the metallic zinc was additionally oxidized with ozone by a modified ALD sequence, the resistivity of ZnO films could be adjusted in a range of $3.8{\times}10^{-3}\;{\sim}\;19.0\;{\Omega}cm$ depending on the exposure time of ozone.

위성자료 기반의 단층태양복사모델을 이용한 한반도 태양-기상자원지도 개발 (Development of Solar-Meteorological Resources Map using One-layer Solar Radiation Model Based on Satellites Data on Korean Peninsula)

  • The solar and meteorological resources map is calculated using by one-layer solar radiation model (GWNU model), satellites data and numerical model output on the Korean peninsula. The Meteorological input data to perform the GWNU model are retrieved aerosol optical thickness from MODIS (TERA/AQUA), total ozone amount from OMI (AURA), cloud fraction from geostationary satellites (MTSAT-1R) and temperature, pressure and total precipitable water from output of RDAPS (Regional Data Assimilation and Prediction System) and KLAPS (Korea Local Analysis and Prediction System) model operated by KMA (Korea Meteorological Administration). The model is carried out every hour using by the meteorological data (total ozone amount, aerosol optical thickness, temperature, pressure and cloud amount) and the basic data (surface albedo and DEM). And the result is analyzed the distribution in time and space and validated with 22 meteorological solar observations. The solar resources map is used to the solar energy-related industries and assessment of the potential resources for solar plant. The National Institute of Meteorological Research in KMA released $4km{\times}4km$ solar map in 2008 and updated solar map with $1km{\times}1km$ resolution and topological effect in 2010. The meteorological resources map homepage (http://www.greenmap.go.kr) is provided the various information and result for the meteorological-solar resources map.

포항지역 오존의 수직분포 특성 (Characteristics of Vertical Ozone Distributions in the Pohang Area, Korea)

  • 본 연구진은 포항지역을 중심으로 1995년부터 1997년의 3년간 오존존데로 관측한 고도별 오존농도 및 오존전량 자료를 이용하여 오존의 수직분포특성에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 오존의 수직분포를 체계적으로 밝히기 위해, 지상(100m), 대류권(10km), 하부 성층권(20km), 중부 성층권(30km)을 대표 고도로 설정하여 오존농도의 시 ${\cdot}$ 공간적 분포특성에 대한 비교분석을 시도하였다. 지상(100m) 오존의 경우, 포항제철이 인접해 있음에도 불구하고, 전반적으로 청정지역에서와 유사한 농도분포를 유지하였다. 봄과 여름에 높고 가을과 겨울에 낮은 농도분포는 기상인자들과의 상관성을 고려할 때, 대체로 광화학 반응에 의한 결과로 보여진다. 대류권(10km) 및 하부 성층권(20km)의 경우 춘고하저(春高夏低)의 전형적인 북반구 대류권 오존의 시간적 경향성을 나타내었다. 이는 고도별 오존농도간의 분석결과 성층권 오존의 대류권 이동 및 광화학 반응과 역전층 형성에 의한 결과로 추정된다. 중부 성층권(30km) 오존의 경우 지상 오존의 농도분포 경향과 매우 유사한 월주기 및 계절주기를 취하였다. Brewer 분광광도계에 의한 오존전량은 성층권 오존량 (Umkehr 법)에 의해 크게 좌우되며, 오존전량은 유해자외선 (UV-B)과의 상관성은 미미하나, 운량과는 음의 상관성을 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과 지상권뿐만 아니라 대류권 및 성층권 오존의 시간적 특성을 이해하는데 있어 포항이 해안도시라는 지리학적인 요인이 매우 중요하다는 점을 확인할 수 있다.

Tethersonde와 기상탑 관측 자료를 이용한 울산지역 야간 역전에 따른 대기오염도 변화와의 관계 (Nocturnal Inversion Layer observed by Tethersonde and AWS System and its Relation to Air Pollution at Ulsan)

  • This study presents the characteristics of nocturnal inversion layer and their effect on the concentration variations of surface air pollutants using tethersonde and automatic weather station (AWS, 2 layer tower) system in Ulsan during 2003, The method for the distinction of inversion intensity was decided based on the sum of nocturnal temperature gradient. As the results, there was a close correlation (correlation coefficient of 0,76) between the maximum inversion height obtained from tethersonde and the sum of nocturnal temperature gradient. The air pollutant concentration was also directly proportional to the inversion intensity. When the inversion intensity was strong in the nighttime, ozone $(O_3)$ concentration was lower, while nitrogen dioxide $(NO_2)$ concentration was higher. The carbon monoxide (CO) concentration was gradually higher according to the nocturnal inversion intensity, whereas sulfur dioxide $(SO_2)$ concentration was relatively constant. In addition, we found that there was no correlation between the inversion intensity and TSP concentration.

  • To protect the ozone layer depeletion the CFC (chlorofluorocarbon). HCFC(hydrochlorofluorocarbon) refrigerants will be replaced with HFCs (hydro-fluorocarbon) as an alternative refrigerant. In recent years a good deal of effort has been made to develop new compressors which are compatible to the new referigent. This paper focused on developing accelerated screening test for predicting tribological characteristics of the rotary compressor in atmosphere of R407C as an alternative refrigerant with polyolester lubricant. Falex wear test machine with high pressure chamber has been used to simulate friction and wear behavior of the common contact geometries found in rotary compressors.

  • It seems that the use of one of the major fire-fighting agents-halon-is going to be denied to the fire protection community at the end of the century. It is now being widely accepted that the CFC and halons released into the atomosphere are contributing to both the depletion of the ozone layer green house effect. Therefore, we should research to determine suitable alternative(gaseous) fire extinguishings agents to the halons and improve or develop other extinguishing systems.
