Fe-XAl-0.1Y(X =5, 10, 14 wt.%) 합금의 고온 산화거동 (High Temperature Oxidation Behaviour of Fe-XAl-0.1Y(X = 5, 10, 14 wt.%) Alloys)

  • The oxidation behaviour of Fe-XAl-0.1Y(X= 5, 10, 14 wt.%) alloys were investigated at 1073, 1173 and 1273 K in oxygen/ nitrogen gas atmosphere for 1∼24 hrs using SEM/EDX, XRD and EPMA. The weight changes of Fe-XAl-0.1Y alloys followed the parabolic rate law. Oxidation rates of 10Al and 14Al alloys were ten times lower than that of 5Al alloys. This is attributed to the formations of protective $A1_2$$O_3$oxides on the surface of 10Al and 14Al alloys. The oxidation product scales of the 5Al alloy showed that thick iron oxide scales($Fe_2$$O_3$, $Fe_3$$O_4$) containing porosities formed during early stages of oxidation. With continued oxidation, aluminum oxide was formed at the alloy/scale interface.

  • Oxidation of artemisinic acid was attempted with chromium trioxide-pyridine complex. Epi-Deoxyarteannuin B was formed almost quantitatively, while expected keto artemisinic acid was not the major product.   • The half-dried leaves of Stewartia. pseudocamellia were extracted with hot water (SPE) and partitioned with n-hexane (SPEH), dichloromethane (SPED), and ethyl acetate (SPEE) successively. SPE and SPEE showed significant inhibitory effects against melanogenesis and tyrosinase activities. By bioassay-guided isolation, ten phenolic compounds were isolated by column chromatography from SPEE. The whitening effect of the isolated compounds from SPEE were tested for the inhibitory activities against melanogenesis using B16 melanoma cells, in vitro inhibition of tyrosinase, and L-3,4-dihydorxy-indole-2-carboxylic acid (L-DOPA) auto-oxidation assay. A cytotoxic activity assay was done to examine the cellular toxicity in Raw 264.7 macrophage cells. Of the compounds isolated, gallic acid and quercetin revealed significant inhibitory activities against melanogenesis compared to arbutin. In particular, quercetin exhibited similar inhibitory activities against tyrosinase and L-DOPA oxidation without cytotoxicity. These results suggested that SPE could be used as a potential source of natural skin-whitening material in cosmetics as well as in food products.

  • High-quality Sr-ferrite sintered magnets have been studied by using mill scale added SrCO$_3$ and oxidents before oxidation process. The pre-added SrCO$_3$ powders were improved the degree of oxidation and crush of mill scale and the magnetic properties of Sr-ferrite sintered magnets. The small added NaNO$_3$ oxidant was also highly improved the degree of oxidation and crush of mill scale and the magnetic properties of Sr-ferrite sintered magnets; 3805 G of remanent flux density, 3240 Oe of intrinsic coercivity, and 3.45 MGOe of maximum energy product.

튀김온도에서 가열한 우지 중의 콜레스테롤 산화 생성물 (Oxidation Products of Cholesterol in Tallow Heated at Deep-Fat Frying Temperatures)

  • The oxidation of cholesterol in tallow heated at three frying temperatures, 130, 150 and 18$0^{\circ}C$ was studied by assaying cholesterol oxidation products(COP)by GC-MS. The correlation between levels of COP and changes of physicochemical parameters (peroxide value, polymer, polar components and dielectric constant) in tallow heated were studied. As temperature increased, the amount of cholesterol was decreased proportionally with heating time. However, the levels of COP did not increase considerably with increased frying temperature. The rate of cholesterol disappearance was the greatest at 18$0^{\circ}C$ and the smallest at 13$0^{\circ}C$. Larger amounts of COP formed were found at 15$0^{\circ}C$ than at 18$0^{\circ}C$. The levels of COP formed in tallow heated showed highly correlation with(r=0.94, n=30, p<0.01) polymer, polar components and dielectric constant, respectively.

Kinetic Model for Oxidation of Carbon Fiber/Glass Matrix Composites

  • A kinetic model predicting the oxidation of carbon fiber reinforced glass matrix composites has been described. The weight loss of composites during oxidation implied that a gasification of carbon fiber takes place and the transport of reactants $(O_2)$ or product (CO or $CO_3$) in the glass matrix was partially the rate controlling step. The kinetic model in this study was based on the work of Sohn and Szekely which may be regarded as a generalization of numerous models in the gas-solid reaction system. A comparison of this model with experimental data is also presented.

구리 프탈로시아닌 촉매의 VOCs 산화 특성 (Characteristics of VOCs Oxidation using Copper Phthalocyanine Catalysts)

  • The catalytic oxidation of volatile organic compounds (methanol. acetaldehyde) has been characterized using the copper phthalocyanine catalyst in a fixed bed flow reactor under atmospheric pressure. The catalytic activity for pretreatment conditions was examined by this reaction system. The catalytic activity was ordered as follows: metal free-PC<Cu ($\alpha$)-PC<Cu ($\beta$)-PC The formaldehyde, carbon monoxide as a partial oxidation product of methanol and acetaldehyde over Cu ($\alpha$)-PC catalyst were detected and the conversions of methanol and acetaldehyde were accomplished above 95% over Cu ($\alpha$) -PC, Cu ($\beta$) - PC catalyst at 35$0^{\circ}C$. The pretreated metal free -PC, Cu($\alpha$)-PC, Cu($\beta$)-PC catalysts have been characterised by TGA, EA and XRD analysis. The catalytic activity pretreated with air and $CH_3$OH mixture (P-4) or air only (P-5) was very excellent. XRD and EA results showed that Cu($\alpha$)-PC, Cu($\beta$)-PC were destroyed an(1 new metal oxide such as CuO were formed.

Overall Conversion Efficiency for Dimethylsulfide to Sulfur Dioxide in the Marine Boundary Layer-An Overview

  • Dimethyl sulfide (DMS) is the major sulfur gas released from the ocean. The atmospheric DMS released from the ocean is oxidized mainly by hydroxyl (OH) radical during the day and nitrate (NO$_3$) radical at night to form sulfur dioxide (SO$_2$) as well as other stable products. The oxidation mechanism of DMS via OH has been known to proceed by two channels; abstraction and addition channels. The major intermediate product of the addition channel has been known to be dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) based on laboratory chamber studies and field experiments. However, a branching ratio for DMSO formation is still uncertain. The reaction of DMSO with OH ultimately produces SO$_2$and dimethylsulfone. The major product of the abstraction channel has known to be SO$_2$from laboratory chamber studies. But overall conversion efficiency for DMS to SO$_2$from DMS oxidation is still inconsistent in the literature. Based on laboratory and field studies, the conversion efficiency from the abstraction channel is likely to be greater than 0.5, while that from the addition channel is likely to be greater than 0.6. Overall conversion efficiency from DMS to SO$_2$might be greater than 0.5 based on the above two values in the remote marine boundary layer (MBL). This high efficiency in the remote MBL is supported by strong coupling between DMS and SO$_2$measurements with high temporal resolution.

상업적인 pickle product와 ingredient의 oxidant와 antioxidant로서의 역할 (Oxidants and Antioxidants Associated with Commercial Pickle Products and Ingredients)

  • Pickle성분이 linolenic acid의 산화효소인 lipoxygenase와 methemoglobin (nonenzymatic oxidant)에 미치는 효과를 조사하였다. 그외, 피클 성분중 건조 양념내의 lipoxygenase, peroxidase와 catalase 활성도 조사하였다. 시중에 판매중인 일부 pickle brine은 lipoxygenase와 methemoglobin에 의한 linolenic acid의 산화를 억제하였다. Dill oil emulsion, 양파 농축액 (onion concentrate), oil cassia, polysorbate 80, turmeric acid와 같은 피클 성분들은 lipoxygenase와 methemoglobin에 의한 산화를 감소시켰다. Lipoxygenase의 활성은 garlic, mustard seed, red pepper에서 발견되었다. Peroxidase의 활성은 mustard seed에서만 존재하였으며, gall black pepper, allspice와 red pepper에서는 catalase의 활성이 있었다.
