Oxidation behavior of 304 and 430 stainless steel were studied using thin film X-ray analysis and glow discharge spectrum analysis (here-after GDS). The oxidation layer of 304 stainless steel was composed of $Cr_2O_3\;and\;FeCrO_4$ and its thickness was about $1.5{\mu}m$ after $1\~5$ minutes of annealing at $1120^{\circ}C$ open air. However, the oxidation layer of 430 stainless steels was mainly composed of $Cr_2O_3$ and its typical thickness was 0.5um after $1\~5$ minutes of annealing at $1000^{\circ}C$ open air. Electro-chemical analysis revealed that the descaling of oxidation layer could be activated by Fe, Cr dissolution from the matrix behind the oxidation layer at the current density of $5\~10ASD$ and by Fe, Cr-oxide dissolution from the oxidation layer at the current density over than 10ASD. Electrolytic stripping of 430 and 304 revealed the intial incubation period of descaling by oxygen evolving at low current density range such as $5\~10ASD$. However the dissolution of oxide layer was occurred when applying the anodic current of $10\~20ASD$ on 430 and 304 stainless steels. It was suggested that the electrolytic pickling of high Cr bearing stainless steel such as 430 and 304 seemed to be the more effective in the high current density range such as $10\~20ASD$ than the low current density range such as $5\~10ASD$.

Alumina dispersion strengthening copper(ADSC) alloy has great potential for use in many industrial applications such as contact supports, frictional break parts, electrode materials for lead wires, and spot welding with relatively high strength and good conductivity. In this study, we investigated the oxidation behavior of ADSC alloys. These alloys were fabricated in forms of plate and round type samples by surface oxidation reaction using Cu-0.8Al, Cu-0.4Al-0.4Ti, and Cu-0.6Al-0.4Ti(wt%) alloys. The alloys were oxidized at $980^{\circ}C$ for 1 h, 2 h, and 4 h in ambient atmosphere. The microstructure was observed with an optical microscope(OM) and a scanning electron microscope(SEM) equipped with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS). Characterization of alumina was carried out using a 200 kV field-emission transmission electron microscope(TEM). As a result, various oxides including Ti were formed in the oxidation layer, in addition to ${\gamma}$-alumina. The thickness of the oxidation layer increased with Ti addition to the Cu-Al alloy and with the oxidation time. The corrected diffusion equation for the plate and round type samples showed different oxidation layer thickness under the same conditions. Diffusion length of the round type specimen had a value higher than that of its plate counterpart because the oxygen concentration per unit area of the round type specimen was higher than that of the plate type specimen at the same diffusion depth.
The 1,3-bis(4-aminoaryl)squaraines showed color, change behavior, they were found to undergo reduction with sodium borohydride in solution to give colorless leuco compounds, which oxidized readily in air back to the colored squaraine dye. We have shown that initial observations indicated that the derivatives synthesized gave new donor-acceptor chromophores. It is also interesting to note than the oxidation of the leuco squaraines did initially produce a species absorbing about 630-680 wavelengths. The 1,3-squaraines have found many uses as near-infrared absorbers, laser dyes and photoconductive materials. Furthermore their color-change redox behavior has potential in the area of peroxidase-based bioassaysas oxidation sensitive indicator systems were investigated.

The effect of Re-oxidation on the PTCR properties of Sm-doped barium titanate ceramics was investigated by means of impedance spectroscopy. Electrical properties such as resistance vs. temperature, I-V curve were measured and microstructure was observed with SEM photography. Sample was fabricated with thick film process such as tape casting of green sheet, screen printing of electrode pattern, stacking, firing in reduced atmosphere and re-oxidation, etc. As the temperature of re-oxidation increases, resistance jump as a function of temperature enhances but resistance at room temperature increases. These behavior of resistance as a function of temperature, dependent on the re-oxidation condition, is analyzed with Cole-Cole impedance plot and is shown to be related with the degree of oxidation of grain boundary regardless of grain core during re-oxidation process of sample.
The objective of this study was to depict the kinetic behavior of the platinum catalyst for the deep oxidation of aromatic solvents and their binary mixtures. The oxidation kinetics of aromatic solvents, which were benzene, toluene and m-xylene, was studied on a 0.5% $Pt/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ catalyst. Deep oxidation of binary mixtures, which were 1:1 in volume, was carried out and the inlet concentration was controlled in the range of 133 and 333ppmv. An approach based on the two-stage redox model was used to analysis the results. The deep oxidation conversion of aromatic solvents was inversely proportional to inlet concentration in plug flow reactor. This trend is due to the zeroth-order kinetics with respect to inlet concentration. The kinetic parameters of multicomponent model were independently evaluated from the single compound oxidation experiments. A simple multicomponent model based on two-stage redox rate model made reasonably good predictions of conversion over the range of parameters studied.
The oxidation behavior of 60%Cu-40%Zn brass haying small amounts of Zr, Cr, Mg, Al, and Si was studied between 873 and 1043 K in air. The alloying element of Mg was harmful, while other alloying elements were beneficial to oxidation resistance. Particularly, the simultaneous addition of Al and Si decreased the oxidation rate drastically. During oxidation, Zr formed ZrO₂, Cr formed CuCr₂O₄, Mg formed MgO, Al formed A1₂CuO₄, and Si formed amorphous SiO₂. These oxides were incorporated in the oxide scale composed predominantly of ZnO. The oxide scales formed on all the tested alloyswere prone to cracking, wrinkling, and spallation.

The oxidation behavior and Biocompatibility of pure Ti and Ti-8Ta-3Nb alloy were studied in dry air atmosphere. The specimens showed that Ti-8Ta-3Nb alloy had higher oxidation resistance than pure Ti at $650^{\circ}C$. Cytotoxicity test also revealed that moderate oxidation treatment lower cell toxicity and Ti-8Ta-3Nb alloy showed better results compared with pure Ti. The weight gains during the oxidation increase rapidly at temperature above $600^{\circ}C$.

The TiAlCrSiN film was deposited on the WC-20%TiC-10%Co carbide, and its oxidation behavior was examined at $700-1000^{\circ}C$. It displayed relatively good oxidation resistance owing to the formation of $TiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, $Cr_2O_3$, and $SiO_2$ up to $900^{\circ}C$. However, at $1000^{\circ}C$, the fast oxidation rate and partial oxidation of WC in the substrate led to the formation of the thick, fragile oxide scale.

The alumina substrates that Ni electrode was printed on and the multi-layered PTCR thermistors of which composition is $(Ba_{0.998}Ce_{0.002})TiO_3+0.001MnCO_3+0.05BN$ were fabricated by a thick film process, and the effect of re-oxidation temperature on their resistivities and resistance jumps were investigated, respectively. Ni electroded alumina substrate and the multi-layered PTC thermistor were sintered at $1150^{\circ}C$ for 2 h under $PO_2=10^{-6}$ Pa and then re-oxidized at $600{\sim}850^{\circ}C$ for 20 min. With increasing the re-oxidation temperature, the room temperature resistivity increased and the resistance jump ($LogR_{290}/R_{25}$) decreased, which seems to be related to the oxidation of Ni electrode. The small sized chip PTC thermistor such as 2012 and 3216 exhibits a nonlinear and rectifying behavior in I-V curve but the large sized chip PTC thermistor such as 4532 and 6532 shows a linear and ohmic behavior. Also, the small sized chip PTC thermistor such as 2012 and 3216 is more dependent on the re-oxidation temperature and easy to be oxidized in comparison with the large sized chip PTC thermistor such as 4532 and 6532. So, the re-oxidation conditions of chip PTC thermistor may be determined by considering the chip size.

In this study, we report the microstructure and the high-temperature oxidation behavior of Fe-Ni alloys by spark plasma sintering. Structural characterization is performed by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The oxidation behavior of Fe-Ni alloys is studied by means of a high-temperature oxidation test at $1000^{\circ}C$ in air. The effect of Ni content of Fe-Ni alloys on the microstructure and on the oxidation characteristics is investigated in detail. In the case of Fe-2Ni and Fe-5Ni alloys, the microstructure is a ferrite (${\alpha}$) phase with body centered cubic (BCC) structure, and the microstructure of Fe-10Ni and Fe-20Ni alloys is considered to be a massive martensite (${\alpha}^{\prime}$) phase with the same BCC structure as that of the ferrite phase. As the Ni content increases, the micro-Vickers hardness of the alloys also increases. It can also be seen that the oxidation resistance is improved by decreasing the thickness of the oxide film.
