  • Based on a particular overlapping domain decomposition technique, a parallel finite element discretization algorithm for the generalized Stokes equations is proposed and investigated. In this algorithm, each processor computes a local approximate solution in its own subdomain by solving a global problem on a mesh that is fine around its own subdomain and coarse elsewhere, and hence avoids communication with other processors in the process of computations. This algorithm has low communication complexity. It only requires the application of an existing sequential solver on the global meshes associated with each subdomain, and hence can reuse existing sequential software. Numerical results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the parallel algorithm.

  • The model and analytical method for solving the problem of coupled fluid flow in the reservoir/well system is presented. The 3-D drainage area is composed of three connected media: the tubing, the annuli as a super conducting collector, and the reservoir itself. To couple these three types of fluid flows a non-overlapping Dirichlet-Neumann domain decomposition method is developed. The method allows us to apply an analytical hybrid simulator for accurate evaluation of the impact of main geometrical and hydrodynamic parameters of the 3-D system on the pressure drop along the horizontal well and its production index.

  • This paper deals with damage detection using active Lamb waves. The wavelet transform and empirical mode decomposition methods are discussed for measuring the Lamb wave's arrival time of the group velocity. An experimental system to diagnose the damage in the composite plate is developed. A method to optimize this system is also given for practical applications of active Lamb waves, which involve optimal arrangement of the piezoelectric elements to produce single mode Lamb waves. In the paper, the single mode Lamb wave means that there exists no overlapping among different Lamb wave modes and the original Lamb wave signal with the boundary reflection signals. Based on this optimized PZT arrangement method, five damage localizations on different plates are completed and the results using wavelet transform and empirical mode decomposition methods are compared.

  • This paper describes an application of domain decomposition method for parallel finite element analysis which is required to large scale 3D structural analysis. A parallel finite element method system which adopts a domain decomposition method is developed. Node is generated if its distance from existing node points is similar to the node spacing function at the point. The node spacing function is well controlled by the fuzzy knowledge processing. The Delaunay triangulation method is introduced as a basic tool for element generation. Domain decomposition method using automatic mesh generation system holds great benefits for 3D analyses. Aa parallel numerical algorithm for the finite element analyses, domain decomposition method was combined with an iterative solver, i.e. the conjugate gradient(CG) method where a whole analysis domain is fictitiously divided into a number of subdomains without overlapping. Practical performance of the present system are demonstrated through several examples.

  • In this paper, we consider a new lot-sizing and scheduling problem (LSSP) that minimizes the sum of production cost, setup cost and inventory cost. Setup carry-over and overlapping as well as demand splitting are considered. Also, maximum number of setups for each time period is not limited. For this LSSP, we have formulated a mixed integer programming (MIP) model, of which the size does not increase even if we divide a time period into a number of micro time periods. Also, we have developed an efficient heuristic algorithm by combining decomposition scheme with local search procedure. Test results show that the developed heuristic algorithm finds good quality (in practice, even better) feasible solutions using far less computation time compared with the CPLEX, a competitive MIP solver.

  • In this paper, the unsteady Stokes problem is considered and also the pressure-correction method for the problem is described. At a fixed time level, we reduce the problem to two symmetric positive definite problems which depend on a time step parameter. Linear systems that arise from the problems are large, sparse, symmetric, positive definite and ill-conditioned as the time step tends to zero. Preconditioned problems based on an additive Schwarz method for solving the symmetric positive definite problems are derived and preconditioners are defined implicitly. It will be shown that the rate of convergence is independent of the mesh parameters as well as the time step size.

  • This paper describes the development of a parallel computational algorithm based on the finite element tearing and interconnecting (FETI) method that uses a local Lagrange multiplier. In this approach, structural computational domain is decomposed into non-overlapping sub-domains using local Lagrange multiplier. The local Lagrange multipliers are imposed at interconnecting nodes. 8-node solid element using extra shape function is adopted by using the representative volume element (RVE). The parallel computational algorithm is further established based on message passing interface (MPI). Finally, the present FETI-local approach is implemented on parallel hardware and shows improved performance.

  • In this paper, the Superconductor flywheel energy storage system (SFESS) was used for the load frequency control (LFC) of an interconnected 2 area power system. The robust SFESS controller using quantitative feedback theory (QFT) was designed to improve control performance in spite of parameter uncertainty and unexpected disturbances. An overlapping decomposition method was applied to simplify SFESS controller design for the interconnected 2 area power system. The model for simulation of the interconnected 2 area power system included the reheat steam turbine, governor, boiler dynamics and nonlinearity such as governor deadband and generation rate constraint (GRC). To verify robust performance of proposed SFESS controller, dynamic simulation was performed under various disturbances and parameters variation of power system. The results showed that the proposed SFESS controller was more robust than the conventional method.

  • Fahion as the form construction of decon-structivistic architecture was analyzed by dividing it into the intrinsic aspect and the formal aspect through an introduction of three characteristic architectural principles into fashion. Intrinsic deconstructivistic fashion as the construction of architectural form has the mixurte of genders both in a form of transvestic and in a form of genderless look as dualism, and can be characterized by pluralistic nationlism with the emergence of the Third World alienated from the international society, and so forth. Difference and the prefixes of dis-and de- are schizophrenic mystic illusionism, chance effect and the differance of space and time and is supporting Jacques Derrida's chiasmus that is the perspective of collage in painting and the multiple observation of collage in painting and the multiple observation point as the play of borrowing the surrealistic technique. The formal construction of deconstructivistic fashion the construction of architectural form has intertextuality material, hybridization of items and the blending of modes and another sphere. Trace as icon deconstrucion attains historical analysis. Dis and de in fashion are showing the retrogre-ssion of gravity through decomposition, decon-tinuity and disjunction emerge nonstructural silho-uette, juxtaposition, inversion and replace- ment of underwear and outer garments. Their decentring expression emerged as construction through mixture and repetition as well as overlapping of planes or spaces. And their disjuctive representation appeared in the form of mutual juxtaposition and substitution with the double-side of formal construction in functional terms.
