Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are widely used as starter culture in food fermentation due to their harmless entity and health beneficial properties along with the ability to change texture, aroma, flavor and acidity of food products. In this study, five different LAB (FB003, FB058, FB077, FB081, and FB111) isolated from different Korean traditional fermented foods, assigned to Lactobacillus plantarum, Pediococcus pentosaceus, Weissella viridescens, Lactobacillus sakei, and Leuconostoc mesenteroides, respectively, on the basis of their physiological properties and 16S rRNA sequence analysis, to use as fermentation starter and check their ability to fasten the ripening time as well as the overall optimization in the fermentation condition. To check their suitability as starters, their safety, acid and bile tolerance, NaCl and temperature resistance, susceptibility to common antibiotics, and antimicrobial activities were determined. Squid jeotgal samples were prepared by adding $10^8CFU/g$ of each strain in different samples, which were then kept for fermentation at $4^{\circ}C$ and checked for their antioxidant activities at 0, 7, 15, and 21-day intervals. The samples fermented with FB003 and FB077 displayed the highest antioxidant activity. This study revealed two effective starter cultures (FB003, FB077) for squid jeotgal fermentation, which presented increased functionalities. The results of this study will lead to the development of novel industrial-scale production avenues for jeotgal preparation, and offer new insights into the prevention and control of chronic diseases.

In this study, shear punch-creep (SP-Creep) at Sn-4Ag/Cu pad the joint was tested by using environment-friendly Pb-free solder alloy Sn-4Ag of electronic components. Pb eutectic alloy (Sn-37Pb) joints limited to environmental issues with reflow time (10sec, 30sec, 100sec, 300sec) according to two types of solder alloy joints are compared and evaluated by creep strain rate, rupture time and IMC (Intermetallic Compound) behavior. As the results, reflow time increases with increasing thickness of IMC can be seen at overall 100sec later in case of two solder joints on the IMC thickness of Sn-4Ag solder joints thicker than Sn-37Pb solder joints. In addition, when considering creep evaluation factors, lead-free solder alloy Sn-4Ag has excellent creep resistance more than Pb eutectic alloy. For this reason, the two solder joints, such as in the IMC (Cu6Sn5) was formed. However, the creep resistance of Sn-4Ag solder joints was largely increased in the precipitation strengthening effect of dispersed Ag3Sn with interface more than Sn-37Pb solder joints.
Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolated from various fruits and vegetables were screened in order to determine appropriate fermentation starters for manufacturing functional fermented onion juice. From the initial screening test comprising more than 700 isolated LAB, 16 isolates were selected based on their acid production rate. Among the selected isolates, the fermentation broth of KC-007 exhibited the highest electron donating and nitrite scavenging activities, with values at pH 1.2 of 95.6 and 68.7%, respectively. From the overall results obtained in this study, we finally selected the bacterium KC-007 as a fermentation starter. This bacterium was identified and named as Pediococcus pentosaceus based on its morphological and physiological characteristics, carbon-utilization pattern (as assessed using an API 50CHL kit), and molecular genetic characteristics (as assessed using the nucleotide sequence of the 16S rRNA gene). The optimal temperature, pH, and starter inoculation concentration (v/v) required for growth of the isolated strain were $40^{\circ}C$, pH 4.0-6.0, and 2%(v/v), respectively.
With growing significance of psychological well-being in the worksite, the purpose of this analysis was to overview the empirical studies on worksite stress management and to identity the overall effect of worksite health promotion programs on stress management through meta-analysis. Literature retrieval was conducted on-line first in MEDLINE, EBSCOhost Academic Search Premier, and PSYCHINFO databases in public health, psychology, sociology, and human resource management areas. All studies written in English and published in the peer-reviewed journals during 1990 and 2002 were recruited. Key words used in literature retrieval were 'worksite,' 'intervention,' 'program,' 'work stress,' 'strain,' 'burnout,' 'management,' 'prevention,' 'education,' and 'health promotion.' A total of 18 worksite intervention studies with 48 effect sizes were analyzed and the results were as follows. Approximately 60% of the studies had quasi-experimental design and were conducted in manufacturing company and public sector. General psychological strains and burnout were frequently used measures of psychological stress. The lecturing and discussion typed intervention and the participatory problem-solving typed intervention were employed more than others in the studies. The average effect (r: pearson's simple correlation coefficient) weighted by sampling error was -0.14 (-0.32 to 0.05). In the conventional category of effects this is a small effect ranging from -0.59 to 0.05. Binomial effect size showed that success rates increased from 43% without intervention to 57% after an intervention. Sampling error explained 47.14% of the observed variance and its effectiveness on stress management were heterogeneous. In regression analysis with suspected moderating factors affecting the worksite interventions, research design was the only significant moderating factor. The studies with quasi-experimental design had greater effects than the studies with experimental design.

Muscle misuse dysphonia (MMD) is defined as a behavioral voice disorder resulting from inappropriate contractions of intrinsic and/or extrinsic laryngeal muscles. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of motor learning guided laryngeal motor control therapy (MLG-LMCT) which is designed to improve an existing LMT and further the effective voice treatment on people with muscle misuse dysphonia. Forty-six people with MMD (M:F=16:30) participated in this study. The voice samples of the participants were recorded to investigate the effect of MLG-LMCT before and after the voice therapy. Voice samples were analyzed via electro-glotto-graph (EGG). Contact quotient (CQ), speed quotient (SQ), and waveform were reported. In addition, perceptual and acoustical evaluation were conducted to determine the change of voice improvement after treatment. The experimenter massaged the tensioned muscles around the neck. In order to find more proper phonation the experimenter showed the subjects their EGG wave forms as to whether or not they are moving the vocal folds to the appropriate position. Therefore, the EGG wave forms were used as a type of visual feedback. With the wave form, the experimenter helped subjects move the vocal folds and laryngeal muscles to find more proper voice production. The sensory stimuli from the experimenter gradually faded out. A paired dependent t- test revealed that there was significant differences in CQ between pre- and post-therapy. Perceptually, overall, rough, breathy, strain, and transition were significantly reduced. Acoustically, there were significant differences in Fo, jitter, shimmer, and NHR. After using MLG-LMCT, most of the subjects showed improvements in voice quality. The results from this study led us to the following conclusions: Motor learning guided laryngeal motor control therapy (MLG-LMCT) has reduces muscle misuse dysphonia. These results may occur because a visual feedback from EGG wave form can maintain the effect of the muscle tension reduction from laryngeal manual therapy. In case of people with MMD who reduced muscle tension from the therapy (LMT) but, not appropriately manipulating the location of larynx or adducting the vocal folds, MLG-LMCT might be an alternative therapy approach.

Indirect tensile strength(IDT) test and resilient modulus(Mr) test were performed to evaluate experimental performance characteristics for the conventional and crumb rubber-modified(CRM) asphalt concrete using dry and wet processes asphalt. The IDT test was conducted under three temperatures(5, 10, 20$^{\circ}C$). According to the test results, it was shown that indirect tensile strength of CRM asphalt concrete was lower than that of the conventional one. However, toughness and maximum vortical strain of the CRM asphalt concrete were higher than those of the conventional one. The results of Mr test were presented that Mr of CRM asphalt concrete was higher than that of the conventional one. In addition, it was revealed that the overall laboratory performance characteristics of the wet-processed CRM asphalt concrete was better than those of the dry-processed one.

In total, 151 Escherichia coli isolates from Ruditapes philippinarum in Gomso Bay were analyzed for their susceptibility to 18 different antimicrobial agents and for genes associated with virulence. For virulence genes, each strain of the isolates was positive for the enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC)-specific heat-stable toxin (estA), enteroinvasive E. coli (EIEC)-specific invasion-associated locus (iaa) gene and enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC)-specific attaching and effacing (eae) gene. According to a disk diffusion susceptibility test, resistance to ampicillin was most prevalent (23.2%), followed by resistance to amoxicillin (22.5%), ticarcillin (20.5%), tetracycline (18.5%), nalidixic acid (12.6%), ciprofloxacin (10.6%), streptomycin (9.9%), and chloramphenicol (6.6%). More than 35.8% of the isolates were resistant to at least one antimicrobial agent, and 19.9% were resistant to four or more classes of antimicrobials; these were consequently defined as multidrug resistant. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) ranges for the antimicrobial resistance of the 15 different antimicrobial agents of 54 E. coli strains were confirmed by varying the concentrations from $32-2,048{\mu}g/mL$. Overall, these results not only provide novel insights into the necessity for seawater and R. philippinarum sanitation in Gomso Bay but they also help to reduce the risk of contamination by antimicrobial-resistant bacteria.
The effect on quality improvement of Chokochujang by the addition of green tea extract (GT) was evaluated on the basis of total cell numbers, pH, acidity, sugar content and sensory evaluation during its storage at $25^{\circ}C$ and $37^{\circ}C$ for 3 weeks. A dorminant strain was isolated from the Chokochujang and identified as Bacillus amyloliquefaciens ER282 based on the 16S rDNA sequence. The ethanol extract from GT was investigated for its antibacterial activity aid showed good activities enough to use for Chokochujang as a natural preservative. Growth of microorganisms was significantly inhibited by adding GT extract to Chokochujang but pH, acidity, sugar content and color was not much changed. Sensory evaluation and overall preference, however, was continuously declined as storage period increased, whereas the addtion of 3% GT extract could delay the quality loss of Chokochujang during storage at $25^{\circ}C$ and $37^{\circ}C$ for 3 weeks.
In designing the boundary confinement of shear walls, the current design provisions and recommendations are empirical and prescriptive; they specify a certain confinement length and details, regardless of the actual requirement of ductility Therefore, they are inappropriate to the performance based-design. The purpose of the present study is to develop a ductility design method that Is applicable to the performance based-design of shear wall. For the purpose, experimental studies were performed to investigate variations in the ductility of shear walls with the length of the boundary confinement. Five specimens modeling the compressive zone of cross sections with different confinement area were tested against eccentric vertical load. Through the experimental studies, strength, ductility, and failure mode of the compression zone were investigated. In addition, nonlinear numerical analyses for the overall cross-sections of shear wall were performed to investigate variations of the stress and strain profiles with the length of compression zone. On the basis of the experimental and numerical studies, a ductility design method for shear wall was developed. By using the proposed design method, for a given ductility demand, the area of lateral confinement and corresponding reinforcement ratio can be precisely determined so that the ductile behavior and economical design are assured.

Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) usually exhibits inherent brittleness under tensile stress. Application of FRP tendons to concrete beam leads to undesirable flexural behavior due to limited ductility compared to prestressed concrete beam with steel tendons. It has been experimentally observed that partial improvement of flexural behavior can be achieved by releasing FRP tendons' strain by unbonding FRP tendons. In order to estimate and apply the degree of improvement to the design, reasonable yet practical model predicting flexural strength as well as overall flexural behavior of unbonded FRP prestressed concrete beam is needed. In this study, an elaborated model in describing curvature distributions and flexural strength at ultimate stage of unbonded FRP tendons is described. There have been close agreements on the flexural strength of the FRP prestressed concrete beam between the predictions by nonlinear computer program and by the model.
