Roll drafting operation causes variations in the linear density of bundles because the bundle flow cannot be controlled completely by roll pairs. Defects occurring in this operation bring about many problems successively in the next processes. In this paper, we attempt to analyze the draft dynamics and the linear density irregularity based on the governing equation of a bundle motion that has been suggested in our previous studies. For analyzing the dynamic characteristics of the roll drafting operation, it is indispensable to investigate a transient state in time domain before the bundle flux reaches a steady state. However, since governing equations of bundle flow consisting of continuity and motion equations turn out to be nonlinear, and coupled between variables, the solutions for a transient state cannot be obtained by an analytical method. Therefore, we use the Finite Difference Method(FDM), particularly, the FTBS(Forward-Time Backward-Space) difference method. Then, the total equations system yields to an algebraic equations system and is solved under given initial and boundary conditions in an iterative fashion. From the simulation results, we confirm that state variables show different behavior in the transient state; e.g., the velocity distribution in the flow field changes more quickly the linear density distribution. During a transient flow in a drafting zone, the output irregularity is influenced differently by the disturbances, e.g., the variation in input bundle thickness, the drafting speed, and the draft ratio.

Railroad is the major factor of vibration source in railway vehicles, and it must carefully maintained the original condition to secure the safety and good ride comfort of passenger. Measuring the condition of rail irregularities such as surface, alignment, gauge, twist and cant etc is required to maintain the good performance of railroad. Currently, the various rail irregularity measurement systems(EM120, ROGER1000K and the Total Rail Irregularity Measurement system of Korea High Speed Train) are operated in Korea to estimate the rail irregularity. It is hard to verify the correlation of one rail irregularity data of a measurement system with the other, because they have been adopted different rail irregularity estimation methods. The best method securing the reliability of the irregularity data is the direct confirmation on the ground where the measurement system had detected as a fault section, but it is impossible to apply all sections simultaneously due to limitation of time, labor, cost and equipments. There is a method to secure the reliability of the data by using acceleration values. Rail irregularities, the major factor of vibration in railway vehicle, are transmitted to the vehicle acceleration through masses, springs, dampers and joints as the system dynamic formation. In this study, Transition Function has been adopted by using the rail irregularity and the acceleration value regarding as input & output parameters respectively. It has been verified by comparing the analyzed results with real measured irregularity data from the Total Rail Irregularity Measurement system of Korea High Speed Train. Also various methods has been accomplished to verify the correlation between rail irregularities and acceleration values.
Track geometry changes by traffic loads. The bigger the changes are, the worse the riding comfort and running stability of train. This is so-called track irregularity and is the most important quality parameters of ballasted track. To objectively assess track irregularity, track geometry should be able to be measured. Practically, railway companies in Korea use various track recording equipments to measure track irregularity. But this various equipments output different data due to their geometrical structure even measured at same location. In this report, the correlation of various track recording data used in Korea was reviewed.
This paper is focused on application of recursive least squares method to estimate rail irregularities from the acceleration measurement on an axle-box or a bogie for the rail condition monitoring with in-service high-speed trains. Generally, the rail condition was monitored by a special railway inspection vehicle but the monitoring method needs an expensive measurement system. A monitoring method using accelerometers on an axle-box or a bogie was already proposed in the previous study, and the displacement was successfully estimated from the acceleration data by using Kalman and frequency selective band-pass filters. However, it was found that the displacement included not only the rail irregularities but also phase delay of the applied filters, and effect of suspension of the bogie and conicity of the wheel. To identify the rail irregularities from the estimated displacement, a compensation filter method is proposed. The compensation filters are derived by using recursive least squares method with the estimated displacement as input and the measured rail irregularity as output. The estimated rail irregularities are compared with the true rail irregularity data from the rail inspection system. From the comparison, the proposed method is a useful tool for the measurement of lateral and vertical rail irregularity.
This paper presents a methodology for identifying track irregularity using a wavelet transfer function. An equivalent wavelet SISO (single-input single-output) transfer function is defined by the measured track geometry and the acceleration data measured at a bogie of a train. All the measured data with various sampling frequencies were rearranged according to the constant 25cm reference recording distance of the track recording vehicle used in the field. Before applying the wavelet transform, measured data were regressed by eliminating those out of the range. The inverse wavelet transfer function is also formulated to estimate track geometry. The closeness of the estimated track geometry to the actual one is evaluated by the coherence function and also by FRF (frequency response function). A track irregularity index is defined by comparing the variance of the estimation error from the intact condition and that from the current condition. A simulation study has been carried out to examine the proposed algorithm.

Fiber bundles output from a draft operation have linear density irregularity. This study is dealing with modeling the dynamics of fiber bundle during roll drafting based on continuity, momentum balance, and a constitutive assumption. The simulation results from this model are compared with experimental results and analyzed by applying the concept of the Describing Function(DF). It can be confirmed that the simulation results agree well with experiments in a steady state, if the model parameters are good adjusted.

An algorithm for identifying track irregularities along the railway is presented. A baseline frequency-domain transfer function based on the equivalent SlSO(Single Input Single Output) model is defined at the intact condition between the measured track geometry of the ground displacement and the acceleration measured at a location in a train. The pre-defined transfer function at the intact condition is used inversely to predict track geometry in time with the currently measured acceleration at the same location in a train. The predicted track geometry is compared in time with that of the baseline values at the intact condition. The difference between them is calculated as an error in time and used to identify the track irregularities. An irregularity index is proposed as the ratio between the moving variance of the error at the current inspection and that at the intact condition. A 3D numerical simulation study has been carried out with a train model to verify the validity of the presented algorithm. In the analysis for the simulation, the track geometry has been considered as the displacement boundary condition varying in time.

Solar power generation systems require maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control to operate PV panels at their maximum power point (MPP). Most conventional MPPT algorithms are based on the slope-tracking concept. A typical slope-tracking method is the perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm. The P&O algorithm measures the current and voltage of a PV panel to find the operating point of the voltage at which the calculated power is maximized. However, the measurement error of the sensor causes irregularity in the calculation of the generated power and voltage control. This irregularity leads to the problem of not finding the correct MPP operating point. In this work, the power output of a PV panel based on the P&O algorithm is simulated by considering the insolation profiles from typical clear and cloudy weather conditions and the errors of current and voltage sensors. Simulation analysis suggests the optimal control period and perturbation voltage of MPPT to maximize its target efficiency under real weather conditions with sensor tolerance.

In this paper, we estimate the scale factor error and random walk characteristics of the ring laser gyro which has the body dither for Lock-in compensation. And then, we compared those results with the static test results for 28cm square ring laser gyro which has about 0.5 deg/sec static Lock-in. In the case of sinusoidal body dither, dynamic Lock-in occurs periodically at the points where the gyro output pulse becomes the integer multiples of body dither frequency. The width of dynamic Lock-in is changed by variation of dither amplitude, and, between the width of dynamic Lock-in which occurs at the even multiple points of body dither frequency and that at the odd muliple points of body dither frequency, it has 180o phase difference. Generally random body dither is adopted to compensate for dynamic Lock-in. Then if the irregularity is not large enough, the scale factor error by dynamic Lock-in is not vanished. And if the irregularity is large enough, the scale factor error decreases, but random walk becomes larger relatively. And we confirmed that the larger body dither amplitude, the smaller random walk.

Active suspension control for vehicles is developed to improve both ride comfort and steering stability which are in trade off relation. In this study, the modal sky-hook controller for 7 D. O. F. model is proposed to resolve the problems such as computaional power restriction and uncertainties in modeling of systems and environments. Modal sky-hook controller reduces the coupling between the modes to be controlled. The simulation result for ride comfort shows that the perform ance of the proposed controller matches that of the optimal controller. Systematic method of determining its gain is proposed. The model sky-hook controller shows the robustness to road irregularity and modeling error.
