  • This study was conducted to evaluate the sanitary performance and education of elementary and middle school food service employees, by administering questionnaires to 358 elementary school food service employees and 171 middle school food service employees in Seoul. The collected data were subjected to descriptive analysis and $X^2$ tests using the SPSS package program. On the questionnaire, items pertaining to personal hygiene, ingredient control, process control, safety management, and sanitation education were used to measure sanitary performance, with a maximum possible rating of 5 per each category. The results can be summarized as follows. Elementary school food service employees' had the following sanitary performances scores: personal hygiene(4.75), ingredient control(4.82), process control(4.73), safety management(4.69) and sanitation education(4.29). Middle school food service employees' had the following performance ratings: personal hygiene(4.62), ingredient control(4.71), process control(4.71), safety management(4.61) and sanitation education(4.05). In the elementary school employees, 59.8% received regular sanitation education once per month, while 67.3% of middle school employees received regular sanitation education more than once per month. At the elementary schools, food service sanitation education was conducted verbally(39.4%), while middle school sanitation education was principally carried out through the distribution of leaflets(41.5%). The average effectiveness scores for food service verbal education were 2.97 out of a possible 5 at the elementary schools and 2.94 out of 5 at the middle schools. In both elementary and middle schools, the majority of the employees attributed the low level of sanitation knowledge in food service to a lack of facilities and equipment.

  • In order to satisfy the requirements of cultivation of talents required by the new age, Chinese primary schools have carried out reform of quality education but are still in the elementary stage of reform such as educational management, teaching approaches and so on. On the contrary, the reform of school facilities which should adapt to the thought of quality education has been not carried out yet. Therefore, under such an circumstance, this paper makes an analysis of development process, current design situation and current distribution status of facilities of primary school sand the merger of primary schools due to decrease of birth rate and urbanization and its reasons and reveals the status quo of facilities of Chinese primary schools, expecting to provide reference for the future transformation and design of school facilities and recycle of abandoned schools.

  • This paper is to find out a possibility that, adapting article 81 of regional finacing law, the community develops community facilities such as gymnagiums, swimming pools, and parking facilities in school site. The study requires an agreement about managements between the mayor and the superintendent of education. This paper also surveys community's needs with respect to use of school facilities before and after class, willingness to pay for the school use, and use of school facilities by private institutions. This paper adopts two experimental case studies to find a feasibility of community building construction in school sites. It also adopts dscriptive analysis of the statistics to find out the degree of willingness to use by community people. It is found, first, that regional finacing law permits community facilities' development in school sites and an agreement between the mayor and the superintendent of education about usage and profits should be made by the rate of construction fee and land cost. The second is that 65.8% of community people want to use school facilities such as gymnasium and school ground. And favorite series of physical exercise is swimming, baminton, tennis in order. The third is that 66.4% of community people have willingness to pay for the use of school facilities. The fourth is that school facilities such as class room, special class room, and computer room can be used by private institutions. 75% of community people agree to use school facilities by the private institutions. Favorite series on these are classes for reviewing the lessons, language classes, classes for playing musical instruments in order.

  • This study was carried out with 2,195 boy and girl middle school students in Inchon to examine environmental elements which may change vision and cause shortsightedness, and also to find out common knowledge of eye health. Its results are as follows. 1) As school year goes up, the normal eye sighted diminish but the visually handicapped regardless of left and right eyes increase. 2) Among weak sighted students below 0.9, boys are 42.2% and girls are 55.3%, the latter are larger by 13.1 %. Vision weakens rapidly especially for third year girl students. 3) Environmental, individual, everyday life elements which cause shortsightedness are studied, (1) environmental elements; illumination in watching TV and studying (2) individual elements; distance from TV and books, posture in studying (3) everyday life elements; hour of watching TV, hour of using game tools average, hour of studying 4) Knowledge of eye health is generally poor without regard to sex and wearing glasses. So adolescent students are in advance educated proper eye care to prevent shortsighted elements.

  • Exploitation of equipment with cross linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation requires its condition monitoring and diagnostic. Traditionally diagnostics of insulation is carried out by means of partial discharge detection. Many researchers have developed a lot of methods to identify the defect by the PD form. However, such identification of a defect, for example, void, inclusion or treeing, does not say about its danger from a point of view of full insulation gap breakdown and insulation construction failure. The information about the form and size of formed upon high voltage treeing is necessary for prediction of the remained resource of XLPE insulation. For this purpose we carry out experimental research for determination of the dependencies between PD characteristics in XLPE upon time and three dimension PD patterns of corresponding treeing. The investigations were carried out by means of electrical measurement of PD current and simultaneous optical recording of treeing image. Test results show that the PD patterns can be applied for detecting tree growth well.

  • Performance assessment has been introduced to school education as an alternative measure of the former educational assessment which put much emphasis on the result rather than the process of learning, memorization than pursuit of knowledge, and passive than active study. As for the subject of mathematics, the change of the assessment came to replace multiple choice tests with descriptive- and statement-type tests. This means animprovement on the testing system, focusing on the process of finding out the answer. The main focus, however, is still on the intellectual domain without paying due attention to the emotional domain of mathematics education. The previous studies on the assessment of emotional domain In mathematics have shown that there are stumbling blocks in the application of the assessment, such as the disputes on the reliability, objectivity, and fairness as well as the complicated procedure of applying the results to school records. The lack of the development and supply of the appropriate assessment tools have also been pointed out. Therefore, this study has been carried out with the intention of establishing an applicable standard of assessment on the emotional domain of high school matematics. As a result, detailed standards of performance assessment, which adopt oral examination, discussion, observation, and report have been developed. The problems which are likely to emerge In the course of the application of the newly developed assessment are under study as a continuing research project.

  • This study investigated middle school students' perceptions of an optimum class size as well as the relationships between a class size and various aspects of students' lives at school. Data were gathered from 858 students from 8 classes (grade 1 and 2) at 4 middle schools located in Busan by administering survey questionnaires. The average class sizes to which each participating students belonged were 17.88, 30.0, 31.88, 28.0 respectively. A series of comparative analyses were carried out, revealing that the majority of the participating students perceived 25-30 as an optimum size for one class. Also, students in a relatively smaller class tended to show higher levels of satisfaction with school lives and with school and classroom facilities, more positive attitudes towards classroom atmosphere, and greater needs for peer interaction than did their counterparts. Furthermore, it was found out that the actual class size had to do with the students' perceptions of the relationships between school facilities and their levels of stress and pleasure at school. These findings were discussed in order to provide educators, architects, and policy makers with practical implications for bringing about a better school environment that is conducive to learning and living for middle school students.
