  • By means of a Riccati transform and averaging technique some oscillation criteria are established for perturbed nonlinear differential equations of second order $(P_1)\;(p(t)x'(t))'+q(t)|x({\phi}(t)|^{{\alpha}+1}sgnx({\phi}(t))+g(t,\;x(t))=0$ $(P_2)$ and $(P_3)$ satisfying the condition (H). A comparison theorem and examples are given.

The Effect of Ni Atoms Inserted in Ag Spacer on the Magnetic Property of Ni/Ag(Ni at %)/Ni Trilayered Films

  • We have measured the magnetization of Ni/Ag(Ni at %)/Ni (50$\AA$/30 $\AA$/50 $\AA$) trilayered films including Ni atoms inserted in non-magnetic Ag spacer. The magnetization as a function of applied field at 5 K and as a function of temperature at 100 Oe were investigated respectively using SQUID magnetometer. In these measurements peaks of magnetization at some critical temperatures were observed in all the samples. The antiferromagnetic coupling energy between neighboring Ni layers showed oscillatory behaviors according to the amounts of the Ni atoms inserted in Ag spacer. Loose spin model suggested by slonczews야 was used to explain such results.

  • This paper deals with a study to improve the performance of Moving Coil type Linear Oscillatory Actuator (MC-LOA) considering unbalanced magnetic circuit. MC-LOA has an unbalanced magnetic circuit due to its asymmetric structure. In this type of LOA, the airgap flux density tends to have different magnitude along mover's displacement and the current directions. The above property causes eccentric of displacement center and interferes with the proper oscillation of LOA. Therefore, this paper presents two models having the unbalanced magnetic circuit and the other balanced by the saturated core. In order to compare the characteristics between the two models, a characteristic analysis for both the basic model and the improved model is performed by their dynamic analysis composed of kinetic and electric equations and Finite Element Method (FEM). The propriety of the improved model is verified through the experimental results.

Dynamic Rheological Properties of Honey with Invert Sugar by Small-Amplitude Oscillatory Measurements

  • Dynamic rheological properties of honeys with invert sugar at different mixing ratios of honey and invert sugar (10/0, 812, and 6/4 ratios) were evaluated at various low temperatures (-15, -10, -5, and $0^{\circ}C$) using a controlled stress rheometer for small-deformation oscillatory measurements. Honey-invert sugar mixtures displayed a liquid-like behavior, with loss modulus (G") predominating over storage modulus (G') (G">>G'), showing the high dependence on frequency (${\omega}$). The magnitudes of G' and G" increased with a decrease in temperature while their predominant increases were noticed at -10 and $-15^{\circ}C$. The greater tan ${\delta}$ values were found at higher temperature and ratio of honey to invert sugar, indicating that the honey samples at subzero temperatures become more viscous with increased ratio of honey to invert sugar and temperature. The time-temperature superposition (TTS) principle was used to bring G" values at various temperatures together into a single master curve. The TTS principle was suitable for the honey samples in the liquid-like state. The progress of viscous property (G") was also described well by the Arrhenius equation with high determination coefficients ($R^2=0.99$). Dynamic rheological properties of honey samples seem to be greatly influenced by the addition of invert sugar.

Rheological Properties of Antiphlamine-S® Lotion (안티푸라민-에스® 로션의 레올로지 특성 연구)

  • Using a strain-controlled rheometer [Advanced Rheometric Expansion System (ARES)], the steady shear flow properties and the dynamic viscoelastic properties of $Antiphlamine-S^{(R)}$ lotion have been measured at $20^{\circ}C$ (storage temperature) and $37^{\circ}C$ (body temperature). In this article, the temperature dependence of the linear viscoelastic behavior was firstly reported from the experimental data obtained from a temperature-sweep test. The steady shear flow behavior was secondly reported and then the effect of shear rate on this behavior was discussed in detail. In addition, several inelastic-viscoplastic flow models including a yield stress parameter were employed to make a quantitative evaluation of the steady shear flow behavior, and then the applicability of these models was examined by calculating the various material parameters. The angular frequency dependence of the linear viscoelastic behavior was nextly explained and quantitatively predicted using a fractional derivative model. Finally, the strain amplitude dependence of the dynamic viscoelastic behavior was discussed in full to elucidate a nonlinear rheological behavior in large amplitude oscillatory shear flow fields. Main findings obtained from this study can be summarized as follows : (1) The linear viscoelastic behavior is almostly independent of temperature over a temperature range of $15{\sim}40^{circ}C$. (2) The steady shear viscosity is sharply decreased as an increase in shear rate, demonstrating a pronounced Non-Newtonian shear-thinning flow behavior. (3) The shear stress tends to approach a limiting constant value as a decrease in shear rate, exhibiting an existence of a yield stress. (4) The Herschel-Bulkley, Mizrahi-Berk and Heinz-Casson models are all applicable and have an equivalent validity to quantitatively describe the steady shear flow behavior of $Antiphlamine-S^{(R)}$ lotion whereas both the Bingham and Casson models do not give a good applicability. (5) In small amplitude oscillatory shear flow fields, the storage modulus is always greater than the loss modulus over an entire range of angular frequencies tested and both moduli show a slight dependence on angular frequency. This means that the linear viscoelastic behavior of $Antiphlamine-S^{(R)}$ lotion is dominated by an elastic nature rather than a viscous feature and that a gel-like structure is present in this system. (6) In large amplitude oscillatory shear flow fields, the storage modulus shows a nonlinear strain-thinning behavior at strain amplitude range larger than 10 % while the loss modulus exhibits a weak strain-overshoot behavior up to a strain amplitude of 50 % beyond which followed by a decrease in loss modulus with an increase in strain amplitude. (7) At sufficiently large strain amplitude range (${\gamma}_0$>100 %), the loss modulus is found to be greater than the storage modulus, indicating that a viscous property becomes superior to an elastic character in large shear deformations.

Possible involvement of temperature-entrainable timing system in arrhythmic mutant flies in Drosophila melanogaster

  • In Drosophila melanogaster, it is known that the circadian clock consists of an autoregulatory feedback loop, which includes so-called clock genes, such as per, tim, dClk and cyc and produces periodical expression of per. It is recently suggested, however, that the circadian oscillation without the rhythmical expression of per is involved in the regulation of circadian locomotor rhythms. In the present study, we examined the existence and the property of the possible per-less oscillation using arrhythmic clock mutant flies carrying per$^{01}$, tim$^{01}$, dClk$^{Jrk}$ or cyc$^{01}$. When temperature cycles consisting of 25$^{\circ}$C and 30$^{\circ}$C with varying periods (T = 8~32 hr) were given, they showed rhythms synchronizing with the given cycle under constant darkness (DD). per$^{01}$ and tim$^{01}$ flies always showed a peak around 7 hr after the onset of thermophase irrespective of Ts of temperature cycles, while dClk$^{Jrk}$ and cyc$^{01}$ flies did not. In addition, several days were necessary to establish a clear temperature entrainment in per$^{01}$ and tim$^{01}$ flies, when they were transferred from a constant temperature to a temperature cycle under DD. These results suggest that per$^{01}$ and tim$^{01}$ flies have a temperature-entrainable weak oscillatory mechanism. The fact that dClk$^{Jrk}$ and cyc$^{01}$ flies did not show any sign of the endogenous oscillation suggests that the per-less oscillatory mechanism may require CLK and CYC.

Dynamic Rheological Invest igation of Hot Pepper-soybean Paste Mixed with Acetylated Starch: Effect of Storage Time and Temperature

  • The effects of storage time (0, 1, and 2 month) and temperature (5, 15, and $25^{\circ}C$) on the dynamic rheological properties of hot pepper-soybean paste (HPSP) mixed with acetylated starches (AS) were studied by small-deformation oscillatory measurements. Dynamic moduli (G', G", and $\eta^*$) values of HPSP-AS mixtures increased with an increase in storage time and also decreased with increasing storage temperature. However, dynamic moduli values of the control (no added AS) were independent on storage time and temperature. Tan $\delta$ values (ratio of G"/G') in all HPSP samples did not change much with an increase in storage time and temperature. After 2 months of storage, the dynamic moduli of the HPSP-AS mixture samples were much lower than those of the control, indicating that the addition of AS can inhibit the retrogradation that developed over a long period of storage. Structural and rheological properties of HPSP samples seem to be stabilized by the presence of AS.

  • In this paper, static and oscillatory instability of a nanotube conveying fluid and modeled as a thin-walled beam is investigated. Analytically nonlocal effect, effects of boundary conditions, transverse shear and rotary inertia are incorporated in this study. The governing equations and boundary conditions are derived through Hamilton's principle. Numerical analysis is performed by using extended Galerkin method which enables us to obtain more accurate results compared with conventional Galerkin method. Variations of critical flow velocity of carbon nanopipes with two different boundary conditions based on the analytically nonlocal theory and partially nonlocal theory are investigated and pertinent conclusions are outlined.

  • Let ${\gamma}$ : Ilongrightarrow R2 be a sufficiently smooth curve and $\sigma$${\gamma}$ be the affine arclength measure supported on ${\gamma}$. In this paper, we study the Lp - improving properties of the convolution operators T$\sigma$${\gamma}$ associated with $\sigma$${\gamma}$ for various curves ${\gamma}$. Optimal results are obtained for all finite type plane curves and homogeneous curves (possibly blowing up at the origin). As an attempt to extend this result to infinitely flat curves we give and example of a family of flat curves whose affine arclength measure has same Lp-improvement property. All of these results will be based on uniform estimates of damping oscillatory integrals.

  • The aim of this study was to develop a method for measuring the slumping resistance of flowable resin composites and to evaluate the efficacy using rheological methodology. Five commercial flowable composites (Aelitefil flow:AF, Filtek flow:FF, DenFil flow:DF, Tetric flow:TF and Revolution:RV) were used. Same volume of composites in a syringe was extruded on a glass slide using a custom-made loading device. The resin composites were allowed to slump for 10 seconds at $25^{\circ}C$ and light cured. The aspect ratio (height/diameter) of cone or dome shaped specimen was measured for estimating the slumping tendency of composites. The complex viscosity of each composite was measured by a dynamic oscillatory shear test as a function of angular frequency using a rheometer. To compare the slumping tendency of composites, one way-ANOVA and Turkey's post hoc test was performed for the aspect ratio at 95% confidence level. Regression analysis was performed to investigate the relationship between the complex viscosity and the aspect ratio. The results were as follows. 1.
