  • Spacer Dampers must be carefully designed and tested. Because it can protect conductors from conductor oscillations due to winds and electrical forces. If the spacer damper has any problems in itself, it may cause extensive damage to the transmission lines. This paper suggests a design method and considerations of spacer damper for bundled conductor transmission lines.

  • The change of water level at Mokpo Harbour and its adjacent coastal area due to the construction of the Youngsan Estuary Barrage and the Third Land Reclamation Work of estuary barren had been roughly expected. Periodical floods, which occur 2 times per month, are also being observed at the low lying commercial areas near the Mokpo Old Harbor. Although it is said that the highest tidal current component among the tidal current records at the approaching channel to Mokpo Harbor is reduced to 6 kts, because of the esturary barrage, they do not give any precise statement or a deep analysis for the flooding and periodical water level change under certain environmental conditions. Moreover, they never tried the analysis of development plan considering the natural disaster such as typhoon or other extreme conditions. Thus, it is necessary to collect and analyze the data related to floodings, harbor oscillations, currents, and water quality , etc. because of the development considering the extreme condition. Thus, it is necessary to collect and analyze the data related to floodings, harbor oscillations, currents, and water quality, etc. because of the development considering the extreme condition and to evaluate the field observation and measurement, including the numerical model simulation based on the scientific approaches. This study deals the problem of the water level change among the integrated analyses of the coastal area changes. The result can be used for the integrated planning to give a strong foundation and it will contribute to the development of local area.

  • To simulate the self excited torsional vibrations of rotating drill strings (DSs) in vertical bore-holes, the nonlinear wave models of homogeneous and sectional torsional pendulums are formulated. The stated problem is shown to be of singularly perturbed type because the coefficient appearing before the second derivative of the constitutive nonlinear differential equation is small. The diapasons ${\omega}_b\leq{\omega}\leq{\omega}_l$ of angular velocity ${\omega}$ of the DS rotation are found, where the torsional auto-oscillations (of limit cycles) of the DS bit are generated. The variation of the limit cycle states, i.e. birth (${\omega}={\omega}_b$), evolution (${\omega}_b<{\omega}<{\omega}_l$) and loss (${\omega}={\omega}_l$), with the increase in angular velocity ${\omega}$ is analyzed. It is observed that firstly, at birth state of bifurcation of the limit cycle, the auto-oscillation generated proceeds in the regime of fast and slow motions (multiscale motion) with very small amplitude and it has a relaxation mode with nearly discontinuous angular velocities of elastic twisting. The vibration amplitude increases as ${\omega}$ increases, and then it decreases as ${\omega}$ approaches ${\omega}_l$. Sectional drill strings are also considered, and the conditions of the solution at the point of the upper and lower section joints are deduced. Besides, the peculiarities of the auto-oscillations of the sectional DSs are discussed.

  • In this study, we examined a morningside Pi2 pulsation, with a non-substorm signature, that occurred in very quiet geomagnetic conditions (Kp = 0) at 05:38 UT on December 8, 2012, using data obtained by Van Allen Probes A and B (VAP-A and VAP-B, respectively) and at a ground station. Using 1 sec resolution vector magnetic field data, we measured the X-component of the pulsation from the Abu Simbel ground station (L = 1.07, LT = UT +2 hr, where LT represents local time) in Egypt. At the time of the Pi2 event, Abu Simbel and VAP-A (L = 3.3) were in the morning sector (07:38 LT and 07:59 MLT, respectively, where MLT represents magnetic local time), and VAP-B was in the postmidnight sector (04:18 MLT and L = 5.7). VAP-A and VAP-B observed oscillations in the compressional magnetic field component (Bz), which were in close agreement with the X-component measurements of the Pi2 pulsation that were made at Abu Simbel. The oscillations observed by the satellites and on the ground were in phase. Thus, we concluded that the observed morningside Pi2 pulsation was caused by the cavity resonance mode rather than by ionospheric current systems.

  • The current study describes experimental and computational work on the passive control of the steady and unsteady condensation shock waves, which are generated in a transonic nozzle. The bleed slots are installed on the contoured wall of the transonic nozzle in order to control the magnitude of the condensation shock wave and its oscillations. For computations, a droplet growth equation is incorporated into the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation systems. Computations are carried out using a third-order MUSCL type TVD finite-difference scheme with a second-order tractional time step. Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model is employed to close the governing equations. An experiment using an indraft transonic wind tunnel is made to validate the computational results. The current computations represented well the experimental flows. From both the experimental and computational results it is found that the magnitude of the condensation shock wave in the bleed slotted nozzle is significantly reduced, compared with no passive control of solid wall. The oscillations of the condensation shock wave are successfully suppressed by a bleed slot system.

  • This study focuses on the development of numerical procedure to analyze the nonlinear combustion instabilities in liquid rocket engine. Nonlinear behaviors of acoustic instabilities are characterized by the existence of limit cycle in linearly unstable engines and nonlinear or triggering instability in linearly stable engines. To discretize convective fluxes with high accuracy and robustness, approximated Riemann solver based on characteristics and Euler-characteristic boundary conditions are employed. The present procedure predicts well the transition processes from initial harmonic pressure disturbance to N-like steep-fronted shock wave in a resonant pipe. Longitudinal pressure oscillations within the SSME(Space Shuttle Main Engine) engine have been analyzed using the pressure-sensitive time lag model to account for unsteady combustion response. It is observed that the pressure oscillations reach a limit cycle which is independent of the characteristics of the initial disturbances and depends only on combustion parameters and operating conditions.

  • A simple oscillating reaction model subject to additive Gaussian white noise is investigated as the model is located in the dynamic region of oscillations. The model is composed of three ordinary differential equations representing the time evolutions of X, Y, and Z, respectively. Initially, a uniform random noise is separately added to the three equations to study the effect of noise on the oscillatory cycle of X, Y, and Z. For a given value of noise intensity, the amplitude of oscillation increases monotonically with time. Furthermore, the noise is added to any one of the three equations to study the impact of noise on one species on the bifurcation behavior of the other.
