  • This study was carried out to investigate statistical validity of medical articles that used various statistical techniques such as t-test, analysis of variance, correlation analysis, regression analysis and chi-square test. For study 429 original articles using those statistical methods were selected from Journal of Korean Acupuncture & Moxibusition Society published from 1984 to 2002. 429 original articles were reviewed to analyzed the statistical procedures. Results are summarized as follows : 1. In this study 93 articles(21.68%) of 429 ones didn't report statement of statistical method in detail. 2. 53 articles(12.53%) didn't report p-value in correctly, and 245 articles(57.11 %) used mean${\pm}$standard error (Mean${\pm}$SEM.) and 109 articles used mean${\pm}$standard deviation(Mean${\pm}$SD.). All of 23 articles using nonparametric statistical techniques made an error to central tendency or dispersion. 3. 175 articles(59.93%) and 14 articles(4.79%) of 292 ones made an error to description of equal variances and normal distribution. 4. 99 articles(50%) of 185 ones misused t-test and 4 articles of 5 ones misused chi-square test. 5. 28 articles(73.68%) of 38 ones using discrete variable misused parametric technique such as t-test or ANOVA. 2 articles and 1 article of 125 ones choosing paired samples misused independent t-test and Mann-Whitney U test. 6. 20 articles using analysis of variance didn't use multiple comparison.

Methods: We reviewed articles in the JKST retrospectively through 1988 to 2014. Articles were classified into original articles, case reports, review articles, and also it is further classified as topics and the information related to the Department of Medicine of corresponding author. Original article was classified prospective and retrospective studies. Results: 753 studies and average of 27.9 studies per year were posted on JKST. 576 original articles (76.5%) were posted. Retrospective studies around 449 studies (78%) were posted and there were about 35 descript studies and 541 analytic studies. The most common themes were related to abdominal trauma, 144 pieces, 95 pieces following damage to the chest and the 84 pieces of special order of trauma. Emergency department had the highest case whereas general surgery came to the second place. Conclusion: Recently, there has been reduced proportion of original article in JKST. It was not possible to evaluate the Korea Citation index journals due to the fact that it does not correspond to listed register Journal of National Foundation of Korea. • Objectives The purpose of this review was to analyze the research trends in clinical research related to pelvic malposition published in Korean medicine journals. Methods We searched articles in Korean databases (OASIS, NDSL, RISS, and KTKP), and sorted the articles by publishing date, pelvic malposition type, field of study, and measurement index. Results 1. 25 original articles and 9 case report articles were reviewed. 2. In recent years, this topic has been studied more frequently, with an increasing number of original articles published. 3. 16 articles analyzed pelvic malposition type. And half of the articles focused on ilium. 4. The original articles have figured out the correlation between pelvic malposition measurement indices and other measurement indices or diseases. 5. Treatment tools, such as chuna therapy, the mckenzie method, devices for correcting malposition, acupuncture were used in the case report articles. 6. 29 measurement indices, such as Ferguson's angle, Ilium shadow measurement, and Iliac height difference were used. Conclusions According to the literature, pelvic malposition is related to other diseases and measurement indices, and manual medicine on pelvic malposition can be effective. However, due to the lack of sufficient empirical evidence from medical articles to support this, further clinical research should be conducted.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to describe the trends of original research in the Korean Journal of Preventive Medicine, and to evaluate the quality of original articles about lead poisoning. Method: The data for the analysis of trends in preventive medicine research was taker from a total of 829 original articles published in the Korean Journal of Preventive Medicine from 1968 to 1997, The qualitative meta-analysis was measured against a checklist of evaluation criteria, which were divided into 10 categories, with 46 articles on lead poisoning. The evaluation process was performed independently by two evaluators, Results: The number of articles per 100 members over the study period increased by almost 4 pieces in the early 1980s, and by more than 9 pieces in the mid-1990s. In the major classifications of subjects, environmental and industrial health, epidemiology and health statistics, and health policy and management published 370 pieces (44.0%), 137 pisces (16.5%), 322 pieces (38.9%) respectively. In the order of the number of articles, five themes about health significance, including metal exposure (73 pieces), diseases associated with exposure to organic solvents (45 pieces), air pollution (36 pieces), maternal and child health (32 pieces), and occupational health (3D pieces) received consistent attention throughout the years $1968\sim1997$. The overall mean score of article qualify about lead poisoning was 37.8 out of 50. Of the articles any information on the purpose and hypothesis described well, Of those the originality of the subjects, the form of article's (including tables and figures), and the number of inappropriate words of abstracts showed very low score. For multiple regression analyses, the number of joint research institutes and the acceptance of research grants about the article quality were statistically significant. Conclusions: The number of original research reports in the Korean J Prev Med has recently increased and their subjects bave diversified. Of the basis of this study, the articles need improvement in the areas of abstracts, tables and illustrations (figures), etc. The Korean Society for Preventive Medicine will revise contribution regulations for manuscripts submitted to the Korean J Prev Med. Future studies should address these issues and perform the quantitative mata-analysis about the specific subjects including the quality of articles.

  • Samhwajahyangyakbang, a medical book of Hyangyak which was presumed to be published by Samhwaja in the late Goryeo dynasty, became the original source of Hyangyakganibang. As Hyangyakganibang became the original source of Hyangyakjesengjipseongbang which was supplemented to be Hyangyakjipseongbang, Samhwajahyangyakbang is a fundamental book which is the original source of Hyangyak medical books such as Hyangyakganibang and Hyangyakjipseongbang in the late Goryeo and the early Chosun dynasty. I restored the articles of Samhwajahyangyakbang, mainly focusing on the remaining articles in Hyangyakjipseongbang, followed by supplementing some other remaining articles with the help of , a database of old medical books, and then, recorded and discussed the results in the paper. 1. The remaining articles of Samhwajahyangyakbang were found in Hyangyakjipseongbang, Uibo and Uibanghappyeon. Among them, there is a prescription which is not overlapped in Uibanghappyeon. 2. The classification system of Hyangyakjipseongbang was alternatively adopted due to the absence of classification or table of contents in Samhwajahyangyakbang. 3. There are a total number of 152 articles in the restored Samhwajahyangyakbang and 151 articles out of the total number have been restored from Hyangyakjipseongbang. There are 5 articles which remain as notes in the citations of other books in Hyangyakjipseongbang. 4. There are a total number of 246 prescriptions in the restored Samhwajahyangyakbang. 5. Even though Samhwajahyangyakbang is a concise medical book, it is one of the core medical books which are cited in Hyangyakjipseongbang. In addition, it is the most frequently cited in Hyangyakjipseongbang among the Korean medical books. It implies that the compilers of Hyangyakjipseongbang considered Samhwajahyangyakbang the most valuable book among the Hyangyak medical books. It is speculated that such results could be achieved because Samhwajahyangyakbang was very popular in those days and its' printing quality was also good. On the contrary, the number of citations of Hyangyakgugeupbang is much less than that of Samhwajahyangyakbang. It is presumed that Hyangyakgugeupbang could not be distributed widely not because it was less valuable but because its' printing quality was poor.
